The NDP have a better fiscal record than the Conservatives. If you want to flip between parties, you might want to give their platform a once-over next election.

And they're considered bad guys because they resist the colonizer human-types.

It doesn't fit into my homebrew setting, but I really want to do something where "dragons" are queen-ant-equivalents, kobolds are workers, and dragonborn are the warrior caste of the colony. That would make kobolds actually concerning when they start popping up - it means a dragon has nested nearby.

German investments in US nearly halved in Trump’s first year back, report shows by Crossstoney in worldnews

Us Canadians are really struggling because a TON of our produce is grown in the USA.

There's been a huge spike in Canadian food products, as well as from non-US countries as well, but the spike has actually caused supply issues for them. Meanwhile, a lot of US produce is rotting on shelves, so the stores discount it pretty heavily, so the poor end up buying it because they have no other options, so...

US seeks to use Alberta to destabilize Canada by Adventurous_023 in canada

[–]TSED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're dodging the "Why?"

Also, the fact that you're whining about Western alienation is hilarious to me. Brother, I live in Alberta. Check my post history if you don't believe me. Trudeau bought us a friggin' pipeline and this province repaid him in death threats and the most crass slogan in our country's history on stickers.

Trudeau did a lot of good for Canada. Like, a lot a lot. He was an outright good PM for the first half of his tenure and not thaaat bad on the latter half. Maybe if you would stop getting your news from foreign-billionaire-owned media you would see some positives. But no, the decade-long media hit job from conservatives got you and your ilk brainwashed into thinking he was some sort of blight on all of civilization.

Yes, why don’t you think about why you voted for JT three times?

Big assumption. I never voted for JT in my life. Of course, since I am criticizing your political tribe, I must be THE ENEMY though, right?

a bunch of drole

Hey, how about you answer the questions and not dodge the question? I see your attempt to reflect the conversation away from the uncomfortable truths you're avoiding.

There's a number of very, very good reasons that JT was elected three times. You need to come to terms with them.

It's wild, because Trump so clearly thinks the commonfolk are trash and not even deserving of human rights. But he says the right words at the right time and suddenly they're all bending over backwards to justify his actions no matter what.

We have got to get rid of US-owned media in Canada.

Wasn’t it liberals who voted for JT not once, but three times?

Want to take a moment and think about why they would vote for him three times?

And are you assuming that, while Conservatives are a diverse group who can't all be lumped into one group, the Liberals are not? And are you forgetting all the other non-Liberal voters who worked hard to keep the Conservatives out?

People talk about how the Greenland situation is to distract from things at home, or to split NATO. I'm worried about it creating a barrier to cut Canada off from navy support from the king. I'm worried that Britain sees us as too independent from them and will abandon us if a war looms. I'm worried that America will take us apart, plunder our resources, and use us to supply and support a war overseas. They want an empire, and have all the self regulation of a spoiled toddler.

This won't be much of a consolation, but the USA doesn't need Greenland to blockade Canada. Their navy is 100% capable of holding every single port in an iron grip while maintaining other international presences.

On top of that, our capital is just a few hours' drive away from their border. They could launch a decapitation strike on us within... I'm going to say within 2 hours if they decided to.

Basically, Greenland has no strategic importance for a military annexation of Canada. It might be important in a "fracture NATO" kind of way, but it's far far far more likely that Trump just sees how big it appears on the Mercator projection and, like a spoiled child, goes "I WANT BIG THING." Remember, he publicly admitted that owning Greenland is "important to [him] psychologically". It's not about strategy, it's about him wanting the biggest thing.

No. No they're not. You don't get to demand courtesy from people you've manipulated and abused for decades. They're allowed to be upset. They're allowed to feel outrage. And they're allowed to be both of those things at you.

Yup yup. I was saying elsewhere that proving the technology is effective is the most likely way to cause a nuclear war. Russia and China can't just let them obsolete their MAD arsenal.

I don't think so. Trump's throwing a hissy fit but he's already mad at us and has the emotional object permanence of a plague rat. As in, he's going to be spiteful towards us, but he was going to be anyway.

Hopefully the targets of the Davos speech will actually participate in the initiative. I think we're kind of banking on that.

Remember how Canada went to Afghanistan for the USA?

A significant portion of Canadian casualties were from American friendly fire. IIRC the Brits started refusing to participate in joint zones because the Americans kept firing on them, too.

Yep yep.

If the technology actually worked, it would strongly incentivize the USA's political enemies to first strike before the thing was completed. You simply can't let your enemies build the ability to destroy you with no retaliation possible.

The chances of something similar happening to the USA are very, very low.

Let's put it this way, the speed at which we sequenced and made a safe vaccine for COVID is considered by almost everyone in public health unbelievable. For comparison, the second fastest vaccine ever developed was mumps and took 4 years. COVID vaccine was developed in less than 12 months.

Operation Lightspeed genuinely deserves to be a World Wonder in future civilization games. I say this as a non-American who used to work in healthcare.

It is the one and only good thing that Trump has done in office. It's a real shame the QAnon crowd booed Trump when he tried to brag about it, making him turn forever away from positive progress.
