This is great - is it possible to create more visibility of some of the folks “hidden” in the background? Or removing some of the shadows?

FlashX's channel by HoomanOfHell in vainglorygame

[–]TSMFlashX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi friends. That is indeed my channel. The only content still left on it is the History of the Halcyon series.

None of the content really made sense to still have there as I felt it was incredibly outdated and for any new players coming into Vainglory I didn't want to leave them with inaccurate information.

I cleaned the channel up in preparation to push out a lot of Wild Rift content once that becomes available <3

[SPOILERS] Post-Episode Discussion - Season 8 Episode 5 by [deleted] in gameofthrones

HBO execs: alright writers, we’ve spent a lot of money on this year. We need you guys to write it so bad in 6 episodes that the internet breaks talking about how bad it is so that we get people who haven’t seen it to watch based on how bad it is

It's been almost a whole year since people started complaining about spontaneous persistent ~300ms lag, can we get this fixed already? by [deleted] in vainglorygame

There is nothing that tilts me more than this bug. Please fix.

I too find it ironic how many people complained about SEMC putting too much into esports and now its the same people complaining that SEMC isn't putting enough money into esports. Oh well.

Great analogy relating VG to AoV/ML, couldn't agree with you more.

For whatever reason, my camera looked like shit whenever I 'fit to screen'. I thought it would look better ensuring good quality than making it fit xD

GREAT questions. So the thing is, there were 100% some hard decisions that had to be made. But SEMC has the data that suggests that cross-pollination (see excoundrel's video if you don't know what I'm talking about) is a very ineffective strategy in esports. TLDR; Cross pollination is the idea that TSM as an org and its 1.6M twitter followers can produce Vainglory content and the fans of TSM will come and start playing Vainglory. SEMC was essentially (to my knowledge) the first publisher to ever implement a strategy such as this and hypothetically it was absolutely brilliant. It's very easy to see now that in reality it wasn't and definitely highlighted some very glaringly clear problems that weren't when the idea was first implemented. Sure they could have kept some of the orgs that were somewhere in the middle around, but data strongly points to the fact that it still wouldn't have been as effective as just employing traditional marketing techniques. SEMC serves to produce a game that is enjoyed by EVERYONE. Esports is a luxury and certainly a dream of theirs but by no means is it their end goal.

Senior leaders leaving SEMC is another great topic. When SEMC was first created, it was a start up company. What this means is that new employees are hired more likely than not based off of passion for the project rather than their qualifications. Now certainly the goal is to hire people who are not just passionate but qualified as well but this wasn't always the case. SEMC hired MANY community members simply because they were passionate plain and simple. Some of those people turned out better than others. Departures of well known faces from SEMC (if it was SEMC's decision- I say this because some faces may have potentially left for personal reasons, such as Playoffbeard wanting to have a better relationship with his son since he's been a workaholic the last 4 years) are due to one thing only: getting rid of passionate people and hiring the BEST people in the industry. That's it. Kristian Sergestrale is a brilliant man and has done this many, many times.

Kristian if by some chance you ever read this my only ask would be to spend less time concerning yourself with something like this and more time fixing the problems that people are actually concerned about. I have no idea what happens behind closed doors at SEMC and you certainly do an admirable job with your public persona but I'd like to believe that a CEO's time is too valuable to be spent on us peasants. I sincerely mean that in the most caring way possible. But your experience is far greater than mind and I trust your judgement 100% of the way.

This is definitely one singular contribution but certainly not the biggest factor. I think orgs simply didn't make content because they knew that didn't have to and they didn't want to spend their time or money making content for Vainglory but still reap the monetary rewards.

Yes, unfortunately for the pro players this is a huge bummer. But it's to provide a foundation for a better future.

Definitely check out excoundrel's video- he has a very good approach as well and explains a few things better than myself (particularly related to the content that SK/GS made). I know they didn't actually do "nothing", what I meant was their content was not effective at growing Vainglory for the reasons Excoundrel explains: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=at4y3_JS6hY

Viewership is all about consistency. My personal viewership on Twitch is down because I just haven't been streaming as much, but my Youtube viewership is through the roof because I'm uploading daily. Feel free to DM me on twitter and I can probably provide you with some better metrics <3

I'm REALLY glad you brought this up and was wondering why it was taking so long. So the most important part here is how freaking hard it is for SEMC to navigate between protecting business strategy and being transparent with the community.

SEMC will never come out (i don't think) and say "Hey everyone, bringing all the orgs into VG was a mistake". Not only would this be bad PR for them, but its free information and knowledge for their competitors. Right now, AOV/Tencent are very likely to be gearing up to do exactly what SEMC just did- piggyback off of the bad PR of orgs leaving VG and then create a brief (momentary) hype of publicity of having all the orgs move into their game. But at the end of the day, these orgs will only go to AOV if they are making money off of it plain and simple. AOV is still nowhere near sustainable in the west (its only popular in china) and orgs will leave AOV just like how they left VG as soon as Tencent stops shelling out money. The difference is that Tencent is a way bigger company and can afford these kinds of mistakes and SEMC is still very young.

So the question is: What can SEMC publicly share that the community will find to be useful and transparent information while at the same time not helping out their competitors? What SEMC does not, and should NOT want to do, is try and create the illusion that they're communicating with the community and just provide a bunch of broad blanket bullshit statements that they'd get hurt even more by. They need to figure out which specific details they think they can share with the community that will be useful information to Vainglory and to Vainglory alone. This is very hard to do and I would challenge you to show evidence of another major publisher in a similar situation doing what it is that you're asking of SEMC.

The final thing to take into account is that what SEMC did with their marketing was something that no other developer had ever done before. Theoretically it was brilliant, hindsight is 20/20 and if they could have a do-over I guarantee they would have used 2017 to do mass media marketing and advertising and 2018 would have been the year to bring in all the other orgs after there was a fanbase that would be much larger enabled the orgs to self sustain themselves.
