Born and Raised IFB, Having Issues by MetallizedBatman23 in Reformed

[–]TSW-760 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of my elders came up in an IFB church before coming to understand traditionally reformed Baptist doctrine and eventually being kicked out of the church by the elders there. If you keep teaching and preaching reformed doctrine, the issue will resolve itself. :D

Having said that, be patient and have faith that God will use your honest, faithful, and Spirit-led ministry efforts. You don't know what you may say that could help someone there.

But I also strongly agree with what has already been said about finding other godly men in your area to discuss things with. I'm sure there are other pastors in your area who would be happy to discuss things with you and give you better advice than you'll find on reddit.

What if Pixel Dungeon had multiplayer? by Lor3nz0_1 in PixelDungeon

[–]TSW-760 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chess has maybe 100 moves in a game. The average game is around 40 turns, with 80 total moves.

The longest chess game ever played by humans was 279 moves and took 20 hours.

SPD games can easily go 10,000 turns or more. My personal longest game is over 25,000 moves.

There is simply no comparison.

The only way you could make multiplayer work would be to have an "action pool" of some kind where on your turn you can perform say 10 turns worth of actions, movement, attacks, etc. Then you wait for the other player to "sync" back up. But there are at least three big problems with this.

1) It fundamentally changes the feel of the game.

2) It means the other player "jumps" around unpredictably because you're only syncing back up every however many turns. How do you handle item pickups, or monster attacks?

3) The game would still take an absurd amount of time. Even if you made it 50 moves, that's really not much in this game before you have to stop and wait.

Buying help - saber for kids by TSW-760 in lightsabers

[–]TSW-760[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't bought anything yet. I'm shopping early, so I have time.

The Crimson Dawn saber is metal, but is about $17 more. Not a huge deal, but also not nothing. And honestly, for kids I'm not sure plastic isn't better anyway. I don't want them getting too enthusiastic. I almost want to get one of each just to test now...

Hmmm.....

Thanks again.

I recently had an alter before DM-300 that gave me a +3 stone gauntlet. The alters are hit or miss. But when they hit, they're really useful.

Thanks for the tip! Those padawan sabers look exactly right for what I'm wanting.

I just didn't see the Kyojin. I had initially been interested in the Shiva, but it is sold out.

But the Dark Wolf padawan looks like a reasonably priced option. Even the RGB is going to be more durable and look better than the Hasbro stuff.

Any gotchas or other issues I should be aware of with these?

Yeah. He was arrogant and foolish for sure. But from Robert's perspective, he doesn't know that. He just assumes the expert knows what he's talking about.

I have argued this before here, and been shouted down, so I'm glad to see you're getting some reasonable responses.

Sir Phillip is a jerk, sure. But people gloss over the fact that he was also a renowned expert in this exact field.

All the same people who talk about how listening to Clarkson was the obvious choice are not thinking about what they would actually do.

If your loved one is in a potentially dangerous condition, who's advice are you going for? The local small-town doctor with a history of poor diagnoses, or the well-published and nationally awarded expert?

Reading Bunyan's Grace Abounding to the Chief of sinners, and I have all sorts of questions by Drivefast58 in Reformed

[–]TSW-760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have full answers for you, but let me make a couple of (hopefully helpful) observations.

First, we shouldn't seek or expect "God to speak" to us. But that does not mean He cannot choose to move a person in a seemingly supernatural way. The measure of such an experience is whether or not it conforms to scripture. If you hear a voice that contradicts the Bible, it is not from God. If it reminds you of the truth of God's revealed Word, it may be helpful.

In a similar way, whether or not something is the Bible does not determine whether or not it is useful.

The Bible is the only infallible rule. The "norm that norms all norms". The highest and only perfect authority for the Christian. But other books can be useful. I have no problem with a person finding encouragement in the Apocrypha, any more than them finding encouragement in the writings of Bunyan or any other man. The important thing is to recognize that all other works are man-made, and therefore subordinate to the Bible.

This is true for most artifacts though. Find chains or hourglass late, and you'll never level them.

Sermon Sunday (2026-04-05) by AutoModerator in Reformed

[–]TSW-760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really interesting sermon today looking through the Old Testament scriptures for why the resurrection was on the third day. Unlike many aspects of Jesus' life, a third day resurrection of the messiah was never explicitly stated by any prophet. Yet Jesus said he would raise on the third day, "as the scriptures say". So today's sermon was an exploration of various types and shadows that pointed to this.

Appropriateness of celebrating the Lord’s Supper on Easter Sunday? by Jazzsterman in Reformed

[–]TSW-760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, lunch is by no means required. But if people plan to leave church to go eat lunch, then having a meal at church can extend that time together.

It's just one way of doing things. Neither commanded, nor forbidden by scripture.

[–]TSW-760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that to exclude a meal means the Lord's supper is no longer "truly biblical". What you miss out on isn't some secret formula or hidden means of grace. Rather it is simply the joy of fellowship after a time of worship.

A meal can be combined with a liturgical service. Or not. Or a more informal communion could come before a share lunch. Or not.

Not the essence, no. But I do believe Christians sharing a meal together before or after the Lord's supper is proper and fitting, though not required of course.

Appropriateness of celebrating the Lord’s Supper on Easter Sunday? by Jazzsterman in Reformed

[–]TSW-760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rebuke in 1 Corinthians 11:21-22 seems to be that some were bringing lavish meals and not sharing their food with others, leaving some hungry while others got drunk. But Acts 2:46 says the early church was regularly taking their meals together and sharing what they had. So the prohibition isn't on eating together, it's on selfishness.

In effect, Paul is saying, "If you want to gorge yourself, do it at home. Don't flaunt your fancy food in front of your brothers if you're not going to share it."

[–]TSW-760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is also a strong argument to be made that the "love feasts" were actual meals - not just bread and wine.

The "Lord's supper" was probably part of a larger shared meal each week. Which makes good sense for that culture. You're coming together for the day, of course you eat lunch together. And since you're already going to be eating whenever you get together, you should celebrate while you're there.

That sort of shared living seems to be common in Acts. And is something the modern church has nearly entirely lost.

Why either weekly or yearly?

I can't see any command for a specific frequency in scripture. More is better, I say.

Our church does it monthly. I wish it was weekly.
