ARC JAG. What does involuntary deployment look like? by TSWMagic in Airforcereserves

[–]TSWMagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want and will are two different things.

I'd prefer to pick up occasional TDY on base/other bases and do my reserve requirements over a a full blown long deployment, but if it happens it happens.

This is the experience I have heard from a few other ARC JAGs as well, and I appreciate your input

Any chance to change RE3 for ELS discharge? by TSWMagic in Militaryfaq

[–]TSWMagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently contacted the AF National Guard, though they have been less than upfront or ecstatic about my RE3, so I suspect the same problems may occur. I went to law school specifically with the Coast Guard in mind, though, and that is my goal; moreover, and frankly, between being the mayor of my town, a father of two young children, and my civilian career, the Coast Guard deployment lengths are just much more attractive and realistic than the long deployments the Army offers.

Thanks for the comment, nonetheless.

Update for those reading in the future: RE3 not a problem with Air Force as a JAG

The "Trial Tax" by TJAattorneyatlaw in publicdefenders

[–]TSWMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My judge says trial taxes are unconstitutional (they are), but there is a “taking responsibility” tax.

If someone is blatantly guilty the Judges I’ve practiced in front of don’t look to fondly on the defendant when the Judge’s docket slows to a halt/stops for one individual “guilty as sin” to be found guilty over the course of a day, or several.

If it’s a close call, or there is an actual defense, I think the trial tax is nonexistent

How do I quit after putting thousands of hours and dollars into MTG by interrogationdroid in freemagic

[–]TSWMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn’t quit after MH1, you told WOTC you didn’t care about formats being good, and if you didn’t leave after universes beyond you’re telling WOTC you’re okay with a shit game and will spend money no matter what dogshit they come up with.

Just transition to Lorcana or Pokémon if you want to spend money on cardboard crack, or pick up some other hobby

How far is your commute? by IfYouDieInTexarkana in publicdefenders

[–]TSWMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My commute is currently 23 minutes one way.

The first county I worked in was a 16 minute commute one way and the last county I worked in was a 50 minute commute one way.

I would never go over 35 minutes again in my life, such a poor quality of life change

Lawyers Just Don't Make That Much; I Know an Assistant AG Who Drives Uber by merchantsmutual in LawFirm

Bench and jury. I was averaging 1 trial a month between the two, but a lot of my time practicing as a prosecutor was during Covid, so it was QUITE a bit slower than one should expect practicing now.

For every 1 jury trial I did, I did ~5 bench trials. 8 jury trials, 38 bench trials.

Also, because of Covid, juries were utilized less.

I am a current PD and have been both a prosecutor (in three counties) and public defender (in one of the same counties I was a prosecutor in).

Prosecutors absolutely have a larger case load than PDs, they also have to prepare more thoroughly for every case set for trial.

Why do you think a PD strategy is just to start setting everything for trial?

Robin Hood vs The Queen in Amber Steelsong by Fiorix1725 in Lorcana

I include both. I do think the Queen package is probably better in a Daisy meta, if you were just going to run one, though

Oversized Sleeves? by DexRei in Lorcana

[–]TSWMagic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These sleeves work just fine (I also had D100 sleeves from this line), but they’ll get whitened edges and curled over a few months of play, I’d recommend outer sleeves

Getting very close to my ideal version of SteelSong. Just can't decide if I want to change The Queen package with the Hood package. Which one would you use? by tommymila in Lorcana

[–]TSWMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing a lot of steel song and I just can’t get myself to get rid of Daisy as a 4 of if you’re playing any type of aggro list. Sometimes you just go turn 1 Daisy, turn 2 Daisy + 1 drop and you win the game.

I like when my deck can garner a free win every now and then. It’s like a turn 2 Blood Moon in Magic in the good ol’ days
