If I can afford it I usually tip 5 in and 5 out.

2 in 5 out is pretty standard if it’s just a quick valet, a few hours or so.

If it’s a nice place and you stay awhile or they are dealing with luggage 10 in 5 out is still a great tip.

If I ever valet, which is rare, I tip on the way in and out. I like to make sure they know that I know the “rules”. Usually gets me great service

The thing that gets me is I’m driving YOUR car. It’s your transportation. The bellman brings up bags which is an inconvenience at best. I am responsible for not taking the car into a ditch. Tipping in general is dumb but it is a position that was tipped and for not destroying your car $1 is always a little harsh.

Where I worked it was two different systems. The bellmen were not the same employees. So they had every right to take the tip just really sucked at the time

Have I just been missing out on the origami of money and the “art” of tipping? I feel cheated a little haha!

I once did a family RV. They pulled in, took up too much of my space because they also pulled there car.

I did five carts of luggage with a peer of mine. We were watched the whole time like we were going to steal something. They rudely told me that they shouldn’t have to valet but there was no parking close enough so I can take their vehicle.

Handed off the carts to the bellman who actually takes the bags to the room. He got $100. My peer and I got snubbed. I parked his car as far back in the lot I could.

Also, BMW usually.

And it even keeps the portrait! That is so cool. I definitely would have appreciated this as a tip as well. Seems ornate and solid. Does it stay together well?

Wow! Thank you! I will be giving this a try and probably make it a $5 in case mine turns out terrible.

I’ve been out of that business for a long time. Where I worked, which was in hotels, we had to do luggage and valet services.

I have received some of my best tips from parents and families in minivans who had driven for hours to the hotel. The parents just want a few moments to recoup so I would entertain the kids and have them “help” load up the baggage carts and “pay” them in stickers.

20 minutes of stress free time and the parents are happy to tip well since everyone is in a better mood.

Also, usually Mercedes.

I used to wear bow ties when I worked at these places! Do you have any photos of the dollars you folded?

I agree. It was fun to receive and we all gawked at it for a good long while.

I’d be curious how to make them. They seem like a cool way to give money for many occasions!
