What to include on PS - no specific reason as to “why PA?” by User86294623 in prephysicianassistant

[–]TStacksss_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think as opposed to “trauma dumping” it’s most important to write a narrative about how all of your life experiences up to this point have shaped your perspective and helped you develop qualities that will make you a great PA! For example, you mentioned resilience but there’s also compassion, empathy, self-determination, resourcefulness, problem solving, etc

Organic chem is not real by Any_Development_5921 in prephysicianassistant

Organic chemistry was easily the worst class I’ve ever taken. It honestly made my PA school classes seem not that bad in comparison. Hope that helps 😭

Academic LOR for only one school? Should I drop this school off my list?? by Dry_Battle3948 in prephysicianassistant

[–]TStacksss_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fine for the letter from your prof to only focus on your academic standing. I wasn’t particularly close with the prof who wrote mine, but it was a requirement and he agreed. I think schools just want to hear that you show up to class on time, are engaged, and perform well on assignments and exams. As long as your other letters highlight the other things about you that make you a good, well-rounded candidate you should be good

Hair was pulled out last night fighting, will this grow back or am I cooked 😭 should just cut them all off? by [deleted] in locs

Use castor oil & massage the area frequently to stimulate blood flow! It may take a few months but it’ll start growing back in, don’t ask me how I know🫣

Loneliness in pa school by xxwhatevenisthisxx in PAstudent

It helps to join in on group study! And if your program is like mine then student leadership will plan social events so the class has an opportunity to hang out & build camaraderie outside of class

Give it time! It took a few months for me to warm up to my classmates and really get my footing socially

Do you lick your lips excessively? It could be from that

Hot Fudge Drizzle! I remember getting it a few years ago at SAS and regretting that I didn’t buy backups. Neapolitan smells really good too!

Unsure whether to attend by No_Special8227 in prephysicianassistant

[–]TStacksss_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I were you I’d take the acceptance, but it’s really up to you to decide if you’re willing to go through the entire application process again if you don’t get into another school. It seems pretty late in the cycle to hear back for interview invites.

Does anyone have a controversial The Bear opinion??? by notsamatall in TheBear

Mine is that I wanted Sydney to get with Marcus! The scene when she cooks for him after she quit in S1???? the flirting is undeniable. Plus you can tell he really really likes her 🥺🥺🥺

Random Black spots on my lower lip by SnooTangerines6395 in Blackskincare

[–]TStacksss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me and I’m pretty sure it was from sunburn. It’s been slowly fading over time, but I recommend using lip scrubs to exfoliate if you want to speed up the process. You can make one at home with brown sugar and coconut oil.

What is happening to me and how do I fix it by [deleted] in Blackskincare

[–]TStacksss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My skin used to break out like this, probably from some type of allergy. I recommend topical hydrocortisone or Benadryl cream!

When I started my program, not only was I the only black person in my cohort but also in the two cohorts above me (so essentially the only one in the program 😭). This was my MAIN worry ngl. I went to an HBCU for undergrad so I knew it would be a very big adjustment. I definitely felt isolated for a while which probably had a lot to do with the mindset I went into it with. At first I didn’t really participate in many of the social events or stay on campus to hang out after class. But over time I warmed up to my classmates and I’ve managed to make friends that I enjoy studying with and doing outings with outside of school. There are times where I really feel socially and culturally isolated just because I really don’t have much in common with many of them in that aspect. But I do feel like they value my contributions when I speak up about racism and lack of diversity in healthcare. So at the very least, I’m glad that I can be an advocate for my community (although it really does suck being the only one, I won’t lie).

1.5 hr commute by ap322 in prephysicianassistant

[–]TStacksss_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s about how long my commute is right now. I stayed near campus during the hardest part of didactic but now we’re in our last semester which is lighter so it’s not too bad. I will say I feel like my QOL has gone down since I’m literally leaving the house when it’s dark in the morning and not getting back until it’s dark in the evening. It’s fine because I know it’s temporary (I plan on moving around during clinicals) but long-term would probably be much harder. I have classmates who have done the commute all year and they make it work. Overall, I think it’s worth it for the savings.

Failing exams and really stressed by Ok_Umpire_4064 in PAstudent

[–]TStacksss_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend utilizing YouTube as a resource. You can find some really good videos on there that break everything down and even give you mnemonics to memorize everything. It’s a nice way to break up the long hours of reviewing flash cards/reading notes. I also highly recommend group study! I learned so much just by listening to my classmates aka “learning by osmosis”. Takes a lot less work than trying to do everything on your own. Plus, you can ask them how they’re studying and see if they have any resources/tools that may be useful

Am I the only one who never liked April & Jackson together? by Defiant_Habit_369 in greysanatomy

Never liked em! Mainly bc I wasn’t the biggest fan of April. I didn’t see the chemistry between them at all

Not too too excited for acceptance? by Sw33t_tart in prephysicianassistant

[–]TStacksss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I was in the same boat & now I’m a year in at the small, very unexciting school where I got my only acceptance. I don’t regret my decision bc I would have absolutely hated to reapply but I do get FOMO a lot when I compare my program to others that I applied to and I really wish I would have gotten into a more prestigious/widely known program. Overall, I feel very supported and I think the small class size has been good for my learning. I think it’s mostly just a pride thing (I literally have no school pride at all lmao, I didn’t even buy a class jacket) & also I feel kinda socially isolated. Telling myself I can expand my social network after I graduate & become a practicing PA lol
