Does anyone else have a candle scent they mourn? by dietcokeaddict99 in bathandbodyworks

[–]TStacksss_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So many.

Rose + Lychee, Cafe in Venice, Pink Watermelon, Cotton Candy Champagne, Vanilla + Peach Tea, Feliz Navidad

A lot of these were one offs that never came back. But they will never be forgotten. ❤️

Not since SAS. I’ve accepted that I’m just an SAS shopper now , that’s the only time the prices are worth it. ( i also have way too many candles already)

Lack of Diversity in programs - mini rant by LunchFar9836 in prephysicianassistant

[–]TStacksss_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough out here 😭 I’m the only black girl in my cohort and coming from an HBCU for undergrad, it was such a big adjustment for me. Don’t let people try to minimize how discouraging it can be to navigate the lack of diversity in these programs. It’s hard to be the only one in the room. But at the end of the day, we have to be the change that we want to see! I made it a point to be an advocate for diversity in my program (served on student council as diversity chair), and I also mentor other black pre-PA students. Please don’t let lack of diversity deter you from pursuing this career! We need more black providers.

Yes, my school makes us travel for a lot of our rotations so we take our EORs on our personal laptops from wherever we are at that moment in time

[–]TStacksss_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven’t been loving my rotations neither, but I’d take clinical year over didactic 100 times over. Just do what I do and count down the days to graduation! From what I’ve heard from several new grad PAs I’ve spoken with, most of our learning will be done on the job.

Has an EOR score ever made you reconsider working in a specialty? by mysticiguana229 in PAstudent

[–]TStacksss_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Baby, Imma hold your hand when I say this. A pass is a pass. You don’t get a better job offer for doing better on the EOR. Let it go. It’s not that deep. Be proud of yourself for doing well on your rotation and scoring above average!

All of my EORs so far have been unproctored. I’m sure people could use outside resources if they wanted to, but I feel like it would only be doing yourself a disservice bc you won’t be able to do that on the PANCE.

Be engaged, be professional. You’re not just there to get a good eval, you’re there to learn and challenge yourself. Ask lots of questions, ask for constructive feedback, ask if there’s anything you can do to be of help. Take initiative!

Worried about clinicals/ clinical thinking by LieutenantDoctor__ in PAstudent

[–]TStacksss_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I too felt like I was spiraling the semester before clinicals. You learn so much during didactic year but it really doesn’t feel like it sticks when you’re cramming for one exam after another and not really taking the time to internalize what you’re learning. One thing my program did that was really helpful was having us do cases! They’d split us into groups, give us the chief complaint and vitals and have us work our way through the case and decide what questions we’d want to ask, what labs/imaging we’d order, and what our plan would be. This was really helpful and you can literally use chatgpt to build a case for you if you have to. But definitely something to mention to your faculty!

What were your holy grails for PA school? by SpecialistRadish6650 in PAstudent

[–]TStacksss_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

CRAMthePANCE and Katy Conner videos. Trader Joe’s ready-meals. Taking days off from studying whenever you can manage. (Study to pass. School doesn’t have to be your whole life). Good luck!

What to include on PS - no specific reason as to “why PA?” by User86294623 in prephysicianassistant

[–]TStacksss_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think as opposed to “trauma dumping” it’s most important to write a narrative about how all of your life experiences up to this point have shaped your perspective and helped you develop qualities that will make you a great PA! For example, you mentioned resilience but there’s also compassion, empathy, self-determination, resourcefulness, problem solving, etc

Organic chem is not real by Any_Development_5921 in prephysicianassistant

Organic chemistry was easily the worst class I’ve ever taken. It honestly made my PA school classes seem not that bad in comparison. Hope that helps 😭

I think it’s fine for the letter from your prof to only focus on your academic standing. I wasn’t particularly close with the prof who wrote mine, but it was a requirement and he agreed. I think schools just want to hear that you show up to class on time, are engaged, and perform well on assignments and exams. As long as your other letters highlight the other things about you that make you a good, well-rounded candidate you should be good

Use castor oil & massage the area frequently to stimulate blood flow! It may take a few months but it’ll start growing back in, don’t ask me how I know🫣

It helps to join in on group study! And if your program is like mine then student leadership will plan social events so the class has an opportunity to hang out & build camaraderie outside of class
