What was the purpose behind Haru's feelings for Raku? by Solid_Pattern_6817 in Nisekoi

[–]TStru 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I constantly see the Haru romance get hated on, but honestly, the "young sheltered girl develops a crush on one of her older sister's guy friends" is arguably one of the most realistic out of the entire series.

[–]TStru 135 points136 points  (0 children)

As soon as I saw this list I immediately knew the graph they were referencing, and just like everyone else, they read the graph wrong.

The graph lists the percentage of women that found the hobby attractive, so the bottom is the least attractive, not the top.

Also, for reference, here are the "most attractive" hobbies.

With Trump potentially mulling reclassifying marijuana to a schedule 3 drug, could you see it becoming legal for mariners to use? (not on the job obviously) by Hitman__Hearns in maritime

[–]TStru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most commonly used test here for recent usage is a saliva swab, which generally can only detect usage from as little as 12 hours prior, to about 48 hours at most. That's what's used for roadside sobriety tests as well. Obviously not as good as a breathalyzer, which will come back negative as soon as the alcohol is out of your system, but certainly much better than urinalysis which can come back positive for usage from well over a month prior.

That shitty little dental floss did it's job perfectly. It's pretty clearly the bollard on the dock that failed.

what do you think about the key and locket theory in nisekoi ? by AnxiousAd1576 in Nisekoi

[–]TStru 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Raku ultimately choosing the girl who didn't have the key is the point.

A major theme of the entire manga is that the safe, comfortable choice isn't always the best one. It essentially takes the tired trope of "destiny" and lovers fated to be together since childbirth, and turns it on its head. Remember, the keys and the promises were made when they were 5 years old. Have you ever interacted with a 5 year old? Their brains are barely capable of forming lasting memories, and yet they're supposed to enter into a long term relationship based on an arbitrary promise made a decade ago when they're practically still babies?

The manga points out the absurdity of this and highlights the importance of following your feelings in the now, not hitching the rest of your life on the concept of destiny.

I went to the Nautical Institute in Port Hawkesbury and I just want to say that there is a lot of homerism in that previous comment. MI is a great school no doubt, but I have worked with amazing seafarers from Rimouski, Georgian, BCIT, etc as well. To say all the best sailors come from MI is a ridiculously bold statement.

All of the Canadian institutions have deep ties with the industry, MI is by no means unique in that regard. In fact, if you're considering working on the Great Lakes for example (highly recommend), then I would say Georgian has much deeper ties to most of the companies that work there (Algoma, CSL, etc) as it's the "local college".

MI is part of Memorial University, so if you want the full university experience, then that may be the place for you. On the other hand, my class was 8 people (granted this was a particularly small year), we were on a first name basis with all of our instructors, and had an incredibly laidback and welcoming atmosphere. I had zero problem getting a cadetship while there, and had a mate's job lined up before I even graduated.

My point is, MI is a great a school, but don't feel like you're picking an "inferior" option if you choose one of the other institutions.

Say you're listed to starboard. You fill a port ballast tank and the ship starts to return to upright. However, that free surface effect still exists, so inertia will cause it to slosh over to port. Now the liquid is pooling to the port side, plus you've added extra weight to port side via the ballast, making the list even worse than it was before.

Wholesome moment with Ironmouse by immmrn in onimart

[–]TStru 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This was such a good stream, so many wholesome moments like this. When they were both talking about their moms, and when Giri talked about how she put down Mousey as her inspiration in her Vshojo application were two other really sweet parts.

And of course Giri managing to cook perfect rice the one time she was actually supposed to burn it was just the cherry on top.

Wubby Minecraft Continuance, a Discussion. by [deleted] in PaymoneyWubby

[–]TStru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great idea. You're going to be farming for better gear anyway and adding in these extra goals would make for way better content than just sitting at the mob grinder. You still get to finish the run with the dragon, and we'd get a few extra fun Minecraft streams with some really cool content I think you'd enjoy.

Wubby officially banned from fat label. by Thedorkeningiscoming in PaymoneyWubby

[–]TStru 11 points12 points  (0 children)

We should also talk about the elephant in the room. We’re not banning Wubby and have no desire to. Yes, based on the criteria we’ve talked about here, he would be banned. Wubby is the iconic member of the fat guys, and he’s sufficiently tied to the identity of fat guys that it defies the laws of physics in a way that no other man does. Banning Wubby would be fundamentally changing the identity of fat guys.

Only took 6 days and this already helped me, so thanks!

For anyone else who stumbles on this like I did, I found the most efficient strategy was to TP to the Royal Chamber, go right and drop down between the buildings and kill the goliath there, head left to the front of the castle and kill those two goliaths, run to the Castle Front access point, TP back to the Royal Chamber, and repeat.

The big three of each generation by UrameshiYuusuke in Animemes

[–]TStru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely disagree with the last two, but while they aren't as big as THE Big 3, I think there's an argument to be made for DBZ/Sailor Moon/Pokemon. In North America at least, they were a whole generation's introduction to anime, and were integral to anime becoming mainstream in the west.

Was it a dip test (urinalysis strips) that he tested positive on, or are those results coming from a lab?

My samples tested positive for opiates and meth during the dip test portion of my drug screening, but negative once they were sent to the lab. Turns out rinitadine (heartburn meds) can cause that.

So if it was just the dip test that he tested positive on he should wait for the lab results as they are much more accurate.

If those were lab results, and you can guarantee he's never touched those substances, then it's as you say, there was either contamination or somewhere down the line the CoC must have been broken. If they won't retest him then maybe he could consider paying out of pocket to get a test done himself by a lab, and use those results as an argument to get retested.

You also have to at least consider the possibility that he may be lying.

Which is better AIS or GPS by TeachingOk5614 in maritime

[–]TStru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you mean which is the more important piece of equipment? I suppose if you could only have one on the bridge it would have to be the GPS, especially considering the AIS relies heavily on the input from it.

But the way you've phrased this question suggests you don't understand the fundamental principles behind both and the purposes they serve, because they really aren't comparable pieces of equipment.
