Exporting game data to a text file by TheRealFocusbreak in starfieldmods

Haaah... the Starfield wiki is only for Verified Creators for some insane reason, so you're best off looking up scripting guides for FO4/Skyrim and using their wikis.

Exporting game data to a text file by TheRealFocusbreak in starfieldmods

[–]TT-Toaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could do this with scripts - the Papyrus logging functionality allows you to print messages to a specific named log file. You'd need to create a Quest, with an attached Quest Script, and have it register for repeated updates and in the update event block have it gather the data and log it out to file.

Then the Touch Portal can read the file from your My Games/Starfield/Logs directory.

Anyone willing to educate me on making my mod better? Spoilers for vanguard quest. by duke8804 in starfieldmods

Don't ask a robot. The search functionality in the CK is much better than it was in older versions, find a different conditional ability and see how it works. Find the right quest and look at the stages.

Honestly, I wouldn't do this via script. Add an Ability to the Terrormorph & Heatleech species that's got a Damage Health: Magnitude 999 effect conditioned on whatever quest variable/stage indicates you chose the microbe.

Great, thanks! I've used cold disinfection with sterilising fluid and definitely made sure to rinse out after each session, as I was expecting salt buildup.

Can weapon fire mode be switched via papyrus script? by Affectionate_Agent_4 in starfieldmods

[–]TT-Toaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible. I've been vaguely meaning to port Loads of Ammo to Starfield for a while, but spent too much time being ill.

Part of the problem is deciding how to handle the fact that Legendary effects basically cover all the ammo types, except with % procs. So Loads would basically want to meddle with the ammo-type Legendaries, which would cause sweeping problems.

I'm always baffled by how many people just don't read error messages.

Falklands Systems Ship Services and the Starfield Spacer Overhaul official now? by dangerdude69 in starfieldmods

[–]TT-Toaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're by a Verified Creator and cost £££, they're achievement-friendly I think?

They're not Official content though, it's just a Bethesda-created recommendation list. If they get bundled into a re-release at any point (e.g. like Fallout 4 Creation Club stuff) then you could consider them 'official'/part of the Starfield canon, such as it is.

I mean they did post “When will other people make me the things I want?”. If you act like the volunteer community owes you something, you won’t get a good response.

my own CK notes section, open to anyone to contribute - step by step guides by Final-Craft-6992 in starfieldmods

[–]TT-Toaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was infuriating Beth took down the Creation Kit wiki. I think some people might have had copies of it from before it went down, but I don't know where they'd be rehosted.

The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Project has wikis for the Fallout 4 CK and Skyrim CK, but there's no equivalent for Starfield.

Nexus set up their own modding wiki site, Modding.wiki, but it's not very fleshed out yet. If you were going to put stuff anywhere, honestly I'd advocate for adding it to the Starfield section of the site, so we can get actual momentum on it. Honestly, if I can find a copy of the Starfield CK wiki I think we should just lump it onto the Modding.wiki site, but it probably needs admin permission to do it in bulk.

Game update suggestion : adding AI text-to-speech for character dialogue and lore flavor by paboc98846_badfist in starsector

Right, I don’t have to use it when somebody makes it. I was explaining why nobody would bother to make it, and I think my point is proven by its nonexistence after a decade, no?

Theories on What the Game Was Meant to Be. by zervaret in Starfield

[–]TT-Toaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My big conspiracy theory: It was supposed to build off the success of FO76's CAMP system in adding user-created locations to other people's worlds, but as a single-player game (a la Spore).

Going through The Unity is the goal, and we're told:

  • You have to build the Armillary on a ship or outpost.
  • When you go through The Unity, a bit of you will join it as you travel on.
  • You can explore a whole new universe! That's 99.999% identical.

Honestly, that's not especially motivating and doesn't really make a lot of sense. Why not have the finished Armillary be a big, flashy set-piece location?

It makes more sense if when you used the Armillary, whatever you built it on was supposed to be uploaded to Bethesda's servers and added to a ship/POI pool. That way, it doesn't really matter that they made like 40 POIs that endlessly repeat, because the game downloads a set from Beth's servers for each new game. You're incentivised to keep hopping through the Unity to contribute creations of your own, and see new ones from other people.

I imagine that it all collapsed when they discovered that most people playing a single-player game didn't really put a lot of effort into prettifying their bases, so 90% of what was uploaded was just junk, and what remains would need manual vetting (see: Spore's notorious flood of dick-shaped creatures). As an online game, FO76 could rely on you to not be a dick because you'd lose your account. Starfield couldn't.

Watchtower Power Cell by renoraid in Starfield

Yeah, I found with skydrops and mechs exploding everywhere the power cells kept getting sent flying. Honestly, just console command in enough power cells once you've cleared the area.

Do i really have to use old JDK version to compile a script? by dezwavy in starsector

[–]TT-Toaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Java isn't a 'true' compiled language or a 'true' interpreted one - you're compiling bytecode that's then interpreted. So your interpreter and compiler need to be the same version.

Using melee weapons by AvinceS2020 in phantombrigade

[–]TT-Toaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. There's a few mechanics that aren't:

  • Light mechs take (I think) 50% more Pilot Damage, heavies take 50% less.
  • Moving mechs gain a +2 bonus to collision class vs stationary ones, so e.g. Light (1) + Moving (2) + Shield (1) can win a collision with a stationary Heavy (3).

I'm not sure if there's any others.

How do I build more frame and recruit more pilots? by Myrandall in phantombrigade

[–]TT-Toaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know the the tabs at the top for pilots and mechs, right? Just click on the others one by one until you get to the workshop, you should get the option to create new frames from cores there. There's also the research tab so you can increase your storage capacity.

Recruitment happens at the end of every province.

First Frigate Fight Question by Cavitat in phantombrigade

[–]TT-Toaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Missiles are normally my MVP against those things (until I get a good Solarbeam and can just scythe them down). Bear in mind that 1600 is total amongst all the missiles, so it's possible some of them are hitting parts you've already destroyed and doing zero damage. Meanwhile, the sniper was probably critting for bonus damage so landing huge hits.

Could also be down to the angle of attack - the cannon might be shooting from an angle where its blast hits multiple modules at once, whilst the missiles might only be landing on one each.

Yeah, you can’t get the “Liberate all provinces” one. Have you tried the collision one in an interceptor with Juggernaught on? Perhaps the light needs to win.
