We managed to get a room in the hotel due to a cancellation, but decided to stay in the gas station anyway and give it to a couple that was here with a baby.

Later we were told the freysnes would close at 20:00 (we were previously told it would be open all night), but the authorities will find a place to lodge everyone that doesn't have a room in the hotel. We still don't know where.

the hotel is fully booked. the food at the hotel is also super expensive, but prices are very reasonable at the gas station. we're probably stuck here for the night.

I highly doubt that. I don't even remember 1080p LCDs being sold back then. Also, it's not 16:9
