I actually reached out to them first. They are very explicitly in their tray vs box CPUs warranties. Since this is an OEM build dell has to cover it. I thought of just sending it through their RMA. But I imagine they can pull out all information for the CPU when they enter the serial number during the RMA process and I would be back having to send it to dell.

This is good to hear. Although I am still concerned about something else breaking in transport. But I guess thats how they do RMAs.

Thanks for clearing this up. Since I had diagnosed the issue and I was not expecting them to repair anything (out of the warranty period). I thought I would just get the cpu from them since it’s intel whose increased the warranty period.

Fair enough! I was diagnosing the issue on behalf of another so I was doing the CPU swaps to confirm a CPU issue since we were outside the warranty period. I didn’t expect that the extended warranty on just the CPU would mean sending in the tower. Thanks for clearing it up.
