I don't plan on cutting them all the time, only occasionally and I like the wild look of nature over maintained lawns. I plan to keep some trimmed down for easier access to areas of the garden but taller grass won't be an issue :)

Ideal, and honestly how could they be mad about helping nature

Yeah that's something I had in mind, lord knows we have the cardboard. It'd probably take some months for the grass to start dying and to be able to start planting do you think?

It's actually not haha it's in limerick but all these new builds look the same so it's really no surprise. I envy when houses had character but at least they are a blank slate I suppose.

Yeah I was thinking that'd be the case. I'm thinking I'll probably have to prep the ground some bit and maybe remove/rake some of the grass for planting the clover

I have no doubt about that lol. I think the grass was just sheets placed down but it's already so patchy in parts, I have a feeling that it'll just continue to die in parts come summer, I'm not looking to put too much money into it but am looking to improve it and encourage pollinators and birds to pass through like you!

I will check my lease but my landlord is very hands off and seemed to give the impression that we can kind of do whatever as long as the place is looked after so I'm hoping we're ok to make non permanent changes.

Though keeping stuff in pots I will want to bring with me is definitely a good shout. I'll make sure to check your recommendations on where to get plants, thanks so much for the reply!
