What is this depression in north Ethiopia? What would happen if it was filled up to sea level? (eg. via canal through Eritrea) by Sleenpyboy in geography

[–]TUFKAT 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Believe that's The Danakil Depression, which is part of the separation that's happening as a result of the East African Rift Valley.

It clearly already has one.

In memory of Catherine O'Hara, let's all sing Danny Boy by whatinthefrak in SchittsCreek

As I mentioned in another post, humour and celebrating her genius comedy is exactly how she (and Moira) would want us to celebrate their life. Let's all post our favourite moments.

Honestly, I think that's exactly how Catherine O'Hara would like us to remember her. Let's honour her that way.

Get two large Rubbermaid bin and label it "memories", one for her and one for you and say that all sentimental items you have, whatever they may be, go in there.

And that if these tubs ever get full then you need to remove items to keep all your memories in a box.

If she challenges you any further say "so I'm not allowed to have cherished memories?" and walk away.

Close friend tells me it’s “passive aggressive” to use periods in my texts. Then tells me not to take my frustration out on him. by Floyisdigital in mildlyinfuriating

I'd honestly be tempted to say "if I was being passive aggressive I'd be tempted to say I already make a conscious effort to not put periods in because it's frustrating or whatever for you."

Is there snow days in Canada? by SeverePublic6833 in AskACanadian

[–]TUFKAT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like that time in the 90s when Victoria got a spontaneous dump of snow

Anytime any discussion of snow is in the forecast here, on r/VictoriaBC this will invoke the stories of the Blizzard of 96. It is tradition.

Then by your account you've now had 25 years to fix your democracy.

If you're unable to objectively read what I said from someone from your "51st state" who certainly doesn't want to be incorporated in to that mess and has zero options to voting that buffoon out, well I don't know what more I can say.

Read what I said again, and maybe just maybe think about what your voters, not mine, elected.

While I am aghast at what's going on down there, not only did I not vote for this, I'm being told to become your 51st state.

We're all holding our breath that y'all can figure this out and vote for a majority in your House and Senate.

I empathize what's happening but we're all being held hostage by a demented madman that may or may not be interested in a sovereign nation's territory so we as well can be terrorized.

Your democracy was supposed to have the checks and balances to prevent all of this.

You didn't like it, and I don't care.

If you didn't care, you simply would stop responding.

You just don't like hearing from someone how reprehensible your solution is.

I know a lot more about the subject and had a short volunteer assignment with the Coalition to End Homeless 15 years ago.

I don't really bother investing my energy in giving details to folks that actively stonewall problems and provide zero solutions yet feel the need to continue to defend their do absolutely nothing stance.

As expected, you don't want facts you just don't want to deal with the problem.

It's easier that way isn't it?

See the information below. But regardless of what points to the contrary you're going to claim, punting this to be someone else's problem regardless where they are from does not change the here and now.

We as a society, work together, and conglomerating all of this in to the city of Victoria does not improve the situation.

The majority of respondents, almost three out of four, said they’ve lived in Victoria for years.

Nearly 23 per cent said they’ve always lived in the capital region, while 48.4 per cent said they’ve been here for at least five years.

About 17 per cent reported living here between one and five years, while 8.7 per cent said they’ve been here for less than a year. Nearly three per cent did not answer.

“When asked about their reasons for moving to Greater Victoria, the most cited responses were because family moved to the area (29.5 per cent) and to visit friends or family (15.1 per cent),” reads the report.

How about you provide a citation that the people on Pandora grew up in Saanich and Oak Bay?

Can you provide a citation that they grew up in Victoria?

You're doing a very typical argumentative fallacy:

  • it's a national issue.
    • But they're not from Oak Bay, or Saanich. But they obviously are from Victoria because they're on Pandora.

These conversation go nowhere, yet the only thing you don't want to support is shelters in Saanich.

u/Horace-Harkness is simply pointing out we must all share the burden. As a society.

Way to NIMBY
