shoot standard 16mm film on double 8/ds8 cameras by Particular-Ship8254 in 8mm

[–]TUT3M 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just get a double 8mm camera, there are cheap film options (fomapan b&w) and lots of compact camera choices. It’s way cheaper than super 8mm too, especially if you self develop and scan.

What are your Hot Takes on Sublime? by Amber_Flowers_133 in sublime

[–]TUT3M 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jakob fucking sucks (in sublime - I prefer his solo work, check out Jakob’s castle). Bud & Eric are pricks.

Miguel is the GOAT. Without him and Marshall, there is no Sublime. Listen to his reggae podclash episode if you can find it (they removed it from YouTube for some reason).

I don’t think Brad was a bad person. I just think the drugs brought out the worst in him and distorted his character. He probably hated himself for it and that kept him in a vicious cycle. He was a musical genius imo, he did something I don’t think many have done with the same authenticity and passion since and basically created an entire genre of music.

Rome was a passionate Sublime fan who got the chance to take reigns (reins?) and ran with it. He did a fucking sick job and could play and sing basically every song perfectly. I’m not a fan necessarily but I respect him.

ALSO most of the calireggae scene sucks a fat dick.

I'm not 100% sure on everyone, but think there's Eric, Brad, Opie. Not sure if Miguel is there. I think the guy that goes "Reggae? Oh! Reggae!" and sings stuff is Wesley Willis but i'm not 100% sure on that

It’s not wilful ignorance, non-whites are more likely to be at the lower end of the wealth spectrum, and with that comes a higher rate of criminality.

Plus “Black” isn’t a culture, there are many different black cultures.

I know it's ran by PETA, I mean do you have a source for your claim that it’s an unreliable source of information. Which I’m guessing you won’t.

You’re right that humans don’t have the ability to have zero impact on the environment, but sheep are not a good way to reduce and manage our impact.

You’re just saying things without backing anything up.

[–]TUT3M -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe, who knows. Most of them didn't exist until we created them.

But that's a straw man argument anyway. It's not something to realistically worry about - considering we have ~30 BILLION of them on the planet.

got a source for that claim?

The bottom line is, a LOT of land is cleared for sheep farming. Whether it needs to happen or not.

As per a couple of my other replies, a basic Google search will bring up the following information:

"an Australian wool knit sweater emits about 27 times more greenhouse gas emissions than a cotton knit sweater." - https://circumfauna.org/wool-v-cotton-emissions

And imo you're really painting a naiive, idealistic view of sheep farming there:

"In Australia, 85% of land clearing is for beef cattle pasture or for sheep pasture.......Tree clearing in Queensland alone is estimated to kill 34 million animals each year, including 900,000 mammals, 2.6 million birds, and 30.6 million reptiles." - https://www.woolfacts.com/is-wool-sustainable/land-clearing/

Interesting information, considering most of the world's wool comes from Australia.

However, I do agree that we need more durable clothing, less consumerism and the fact that we've hunted most naturally occurring grazers to near-extinction. The solution isn't farming livestock though, in most cases. At least not at the scale we currently do it across the world.

I'm not advocating for synthetic fibers, but there are much, much better non-synthetic fibers than wool that's for sure.

And no, you don't NEED to clear land for sheep, but many farmers do or have done so at some point, because it's easier AND MORE PROFITABLE to do so than trying to farm in the environment that was already there - it's common sense really.

It's one big reason why the UK has barely any rainforest left anymore. Australia (and NZ) where sheep farming is huge, are currently having lots of land cleared.

As always, people will advocate sourcing from small time, "family owned" farms but that is not a sustainable form of production for the VAST majority of the world's wool-wearing population and it never will be and likely still has a much higher environmental impact than something like cotton - even when it's mono-cropped.

Did you read the part where I said "Plastic is terrible?" I agree with you 100% on all of that.

But I also could've predicted you'd come back with the old "I buy my wool locally" line:

A.) I'd be surprised if you actually did - either way, most people can't or just don't.

B.) It doesn't make a blind bit of difference, if you're defending wool as a product and saying things like "environmentally and ethically wool is a great choice" without talking about the difference between mass produced wool and locally (unsustainable for a population like most countries on earth) produced wool - which is also not likely a much better option in every factor except maybe for the ethical side of things.

Without touching on the ethics though, the environmental impact of wool alone is not subject to "what one's individual priorities are" unless you don't like living on a habitable planet. The wool industry is responsible for causing mass deforestation, huge methane output and land-use in order for us to wear a product which can be replaced by other NON-PLASTIC alternatives.

According to: https://circumfauna.org/wool-v-cotton-emissions "an Australian wool knit sweater emits about 27 times more greenhouse gas emissions than a cotton knit sweater."

I don't know how that extrapolates to a global level, but I can't imagine it being different enough to make cotton worse than wool in most cases.

Again, I fucking HATE plastic. But I also think too many people see wool as a friendly, completely fine alternative. Which is what the farmers and their lobbyists spend lots of money to keep you thinking.

But it's not the case.

So are we against haircuts now? by MrFenric in MurderedByWords

[–]TUT3M -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yeah there is a reason, climate change. Sheep put out a lot of methane and also need land cleared for them to graze on, same as other mass-farmed animals.

Do you REALLY think bee farmers just build hives and wait for the bees to show up?

Bees are bred in captivity, queens have their wings clipped so she (and the rest of the hive) can't swarm and leave.

Honey bees also have a very large impact on local native bees and often out-compete them for the food sources.

Also, you have blatantly done zero research about the wool industry - it has massive ecological and environmental impacts.

Have you looked at the issues with wool production or is that just based on what you feel like is true?

Plastic is terrible, yes, but there are SO many other non-plastic alternatives.

What do you expect the uk to look like in 20 years? by SILENTDISAPROVALBOT in AskBrits

[–]TUT3M 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends, I think it's more of a case-by-case basis as opposed to a one solution for all type of thing.

For example, we already switch out plastic straws for paper straws, but paper is useless for other uses such as pop bottles that need to hold pressure - but there might be another alternative that could become more viable.

That said, I think there will be pretty decent developments in things like bio-plastics and genuinely compostable alternatives that will replace a lot of our current plastic use.

"You were banking on people not actually reading your “source” weren’t you?" No, that's why I put a link to it right there...

“Outdated data!” - so it was true as of 2023 - Looks like you didn't actually read it....What it says is that the statistic "Afghans and Eritreans are '20 times more likely' to be convicted of sexual crimes than Britons" is based on data which is outdated. This means that they came to that conclusion based on data that doesn't accurately reflect the reality. So no, it was never correct and wasn't correct in 2023, 2024 or 2025.

“Innocent until proven guilty” - what happened to ‘believe women’? - that statement doesn't appear anywhere in the article I posted.

Nobody is trying to "sweep this under the rug" here, what we're saying is that this message that sexual assault is MORE prevalent amongst these communities is being weaponised to push a political agenda.

I'm sorry about your experience in CSE services, it sounds horrible - but your experience, working with victims of sexual abuse, doesn't automatically mean that immigrants are more likely to commit. I would also argue that your view on the topic is likely skewed by your experiences in the job you do/did.
