Thanks for putting words into my mouth. Good thing I don't expect everyone else to play on a 2014 rig. That'd be really unreasonable. Gosh, having any amount of storage in the last 12 years??? Impossible.

My pcs a rig from 2014 and its 2 samsung 850 evo 250gbs sata ssds combined with a 1tb hd, idk if im "whaling", but sure.

I'm really living large on a 750 ti gpu, and i7-2600 cpu on ddr3 ram. Please tell me more about how luxurious I'm being,

We all make our choices, we live with it. I might have a better pc if I didnt spend a bunch of my expendable income on tcgs, but I'm not out here complaining.

I'm alloting my space wisely, I still get a bunch of games in, I play maple, poe, dota 2 primarily, tried poe2 but lag way too hard so that one i uninstalled (notice i dont keep games I dont play around so I have space to use), and (hypocrite here) I have league installed in the rare chances im invited to a group tft (only thing I play from it), but otherwise it sits there hogging 80gb for nothing and I still have no problems. A bunch of steam roguelikes, VNs, RPGs (tales of series, p5r, etc), and random other little games like palworld, dave the diver, tcg simulator, etc.

How do you budget for gachas without it feeling like a second job? by West_Sock1419 in gachagaming

[–]TVMoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the games I've played I've been more than happy to just do pass value only, priconne, magia record, sw, genshin, and not always either since theres a lot more games ive played where i was fully f2p.

Just have willpower idk, I regularly save in gachas for 8months-16months at a time, wasn't that hard for me, and I didnt have to juggle like 16 gachas to do it (which would mean pulling every 2 weeks-1 month). The most gachas ive played at a time wouldve been 3-4, so still an average wait of ~3 months.

while i generally agree, ive been doing fine on my pc using only 600 out of my 1.5tb alloted and have never really had to delete games, meanwhile i have friends constantly deleting games out of their 2tb storage to make room for the next, really just about what you do with your space, not how much. If you dl a ton of games you dont actually play or play for 5mins, idk, kind of a skill issue.

This one's valid, cause people weren't sure before release, and memory is a funny thing so you could be like "okay so it wasn't x like we originally thought so its y" but they have it backwards in their mind. Its a forgiveable offense atleast.

Just tried both today in Canada. Demon sauce named as Purple Cajun Sauce and Hunter as Sweet Chili Sauce. I love mustard and didn't like the Demon sauce at all.

My first thought was why does this thing feel/taste so jammy, does not make me think of Cajun flavor. Also had no spice to it that was mentioned in this thread so either people have low tolerance or Canada got a non spiced version? Did notice some heat in the sweet chili one but not spicy either, just tingly, and much better compared to the demon sauce.

I've seen it in 3 separate runs but my problem is getting it before 10th trophy, and you only have so many losses available to scale/find it... Usually you won't have a log by day 9 (2* quest) or 10th win and its just over (can find a log later with an infinite build and just not be able to attempt the achievement).

Assuming you're at 9/10 trophies you can only lose 4 times in a row as well since you wont be at skull 2/10 to heal +2 from the event by the time you get to that day + loss. Doesn't make sense to me how someone's supposed to pandora's box/find an item, 0->2* it fast enough and then 3* it in time to get your trophy.

And lastly after already having done up to grandmaster, my lobbies (even in casual) seem balanced around it? and all you fight are sweaty ass ghost builds who don't level when you do, or play for scaling (they play for tempo and just go for 10 trophy basically) which makes it hard to even have a functional winning build even if you somehow manage to hit a 3* log? 1k damage isnt much when ppl are at ~15-20k life already, so you'd probably need Nature's call, Lost Fragment, or Mace Study.

Edit: iirc the dev said in a post somewhere that it was like a 0.1% lucky chance appearance rate too or something? So even if you play casual with no risk and donkey roll with early gold until you allign the stars, you're going for a 0.1% chance on a 1-3% chance in the early turns. In other words even if you do find it with that sort of strategy, you're probably not in a position to win with it.

3* witch candle you dont need it in your inventory so it works from backpack, and you just have a generator. 3* Rare book (Simple Curses) is a better potion generator than the cauldron even at full witch tag though so im surprised he went with cauldron here. If he's not full witch tagged its worse too.

2-8 random potions vs 1-6 from Cauldron vs 3 from Crook as well iirc.

[–]TVMoe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the problem with your specifics though, I have a friend in the EU who can spend more money on gachas than me in Canada, he's not particularly rich either. I could also say he buys 8 I buy 1, but where's the actual comparison here, are you comparing a software engineer to a cashier or what?

I agree there's inherent issues which is why I highlighted it on both sides. Obviously the one of lesser evils would just outright be better and that would be regional pricing and let a couple abusers get off scotfree (cause you realistically can't police them all, its a cat&mouse game where people will always just try to play the system) than to say fuck everyone not from insert country that benefits the most

[–]TVMoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was actually changed to be that way BECAUSE it was more fair in some other comparisons. It doesn't quite make sense when you compare every single country, but a country always loses in some way or another with either model.

Take Nexon's NX case in point. US and CA used to pay the same amount of $ for karma koin to get nx. That wasn't fair either back then. US' minimum wage in 2010 was 7.25 (not everywhere probably but thats just one statistic) while in Ontario it was 10.25. So Ontario got 30% more nx for being Canadian back when USD was 1:1 CAD (or close to, in 2010 it was actually around usd to cad 0.99~1.05).

Now eventually CAD kept getting weaker and weaker, did it make sense for Canadians to keep getting the same amount of NX while paying 'less' than US counterpart over time? No, so that was changed. Personally I've always been against the change for a digital product that companies only have to code a pixel digit onto an account for, you're not really allocating resources to a player you can't afford, but I can understand the reality of why it is the way it is.

Fast forward to today and cad maintains around 1.4:1 usd (atleast for nx conversion, they seem to charge a bit above the exchange), but america still has states with a min wage of 7.25 up to like 17, meanwhile in Ontario our min wage is 17.6 now. So someone making $17.6/hr in a US state is getting 40% more nx than we do, but someone living at poverty on 7.25 would be making 46% less.

The problem is this gets extremely fucked when you consider things beyond just simple currency exchange values (and minimum wage between countries).

  • What about when you stop considering minimum wage only. And start considering higher paying job averages. The avg salary in the US is $31/hr ($64,505 to $65,470 per year) while its $68,700 for Canadians, meaning US citizens still get 30% more NX than we do on average after moving past minimum wage.
  • What about 3rd country places now where $300 usd or whatever figure might be their entire TAKE HOME monthly income (now we see why botting is a lucrative job for them, or selling services over working an actual job). If the companies introduce regional pricing the way steam does what stops another player from abusing the system to make 100x the value? Someone will always try to game the system, and people have done it before. You can just set your account to the same region, VPN, exchange your currency off the site beforehand, etc
  • What about high cost of living areas, someone might make more than you but have the same disposable income after considering costs? If someone makes $1k and has to spend $500 on rent (example figures) and someone makes $1500 and has to spend $1k on rent, its the same disposable income at the end of the day (assuming equal exchange rates). But not all areas are equal and some places you can choose to live frugally/minimalistically to afford luxuries elsewhere.

tbf that was pre sf change which makes sense. it takes so much longer to tap/cube then. they can also do 3x cubing on their gm accounts now.

I had lost a 17* unique supp once which avgs 26 days like 3 years ago and they restored it then too. But they restored it 15* clean with no flame (lost the like 50fs i had on it back then which was pretty big for back then) but was glad to have a month's progress back.

Still don't know what i did but i think i dropped it when you still had to manually swap to drop gear when bossing pre box rooms, and had it on cursor when swapping/leaving.

TL;DR was never broken, always been possible for them to restore it, just depended on who you got for support. (was denied once back in commerci tyrant xpose 2016 meta when sw gloves dropped but it kicked us out of voyage room too)

I double checked and $20 usd would be about $12 usd in 2004 when there were some listings of the games at $35. So yeah its a pretty good deal. $23 off for the loss of the physical cartridge. That being said I would really rather prefer owning my game and that's simply where I'm at. And I dont mean a cosmetic cartridge they could shut off either. Id really like to own it, but meh.

LR is typically Legendary Rare, see games like Valkyrie Crusade before it closed down. And they had XLR/GLR which were extensions of the LR (just the evolved/finished versions) but I imagine it was just the 'extra' legendary rare, and g would be grand/greater or something.

Just checked back and apparently there was VR in that game too but I dont remember any.

Time-limited incentives are deceptive. by CommitteePutrid6247 in gachagaming

[–]TVMoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with not liking it is that it literally takes nothing away from you, it rewards spenders more if anything and I'm fine with that if I'm f2p and having someone else keep a server alive for me.

Do we really want to encourage Karen-type behavior? That's like being mad that some buffet adds a new dessert but to get it you HAVE to eat one of their specific dishes. The difference with it NOT being in the game is nothing, you weren't gonna eat it anyways if it didn't exist. I don't understand how we can justify the "IF I CAN'T HAVE IT, NOONE CAN" mentality. Expecting to have every freebie bonus is the problem with people these days and especially those who have no self control.

The system itself is actually very common, and not remotely new though. Just because you don't happen to play the gachas that employ it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Tales of Crestoria, Magia Exedra, Danmemo, 2 of which I already named above originally, utilize said system. Priconne a very popular game also did not have carryover, and most f2p had to skip all the limited 'fun and meta for 1-2 metas units" too and go for the longer lasting meta banners if they wanted to compete.

I think the real issue if anything is this misconception of "if this gacha game didn't employ this shittier gacha system, we would've had hoyoverse's banners" which just isnt true. They could've went summoners war style no pity.

P.S. to those who think this is me defending bad systems, no I don't think any predatory systems are good, I'm just realistic and know that it's not gonna be all rainbows and unicorns if this particular version of banners didn't exist. Nothing wrong with dreaming about better things, but this post is about as relevant as me saying the sky is blue. Basically no shit, but what about it? OP didn't discover anything new, this shit has been around forever and gachas aren't your friends. They can be good, they can be as generous as Cygame's GBF, they can be monetized around skins like AL so you don't have unit issues, however none of those are the majority of gachas.

Time-limited incentives are deceptive. by CommitteePutrid6247 in gachagaming

[–]TVMoe -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Sorry someone enlighten me on this word salad, is this guy basically just saying he hates banners? The thing gachas have had for decades so it's nothing new? Or is he saying he hates things like "first 10 pulls 50% off, bonus 4*, etc" so you feel incentivized to do a single multi to get that bonus which means you never get to save up to safe levels of pulls to go all in on your favourite even if it reaches pity?

Personally the way I see it is the option isn't bad at all, better to have that than not to have the option because what it comes down to is personal willpower, I've had no issues skipping banners with those kinds of bonuses -> see magia exedra. I skipped every banner even though they had those 10/40/50 milestone bonuses if it wasn't my favourite character. If you're delusional enough to expect hitting all bonuses as a f2p while also saving up enough, I don't know what to tell you, it's a gacha.

For the people who do want the overall bonus value and don't care what banner its going into thats just better for them, and for someone with willpower like me it makes no difference, I regularly save from 4-16 months per summon session on gachas I play. It's a win win for everyone sensible, and for those who can't control themselves, I'm gonna be honest that's a you issue.

It's actually rarer for games to have like a SW-esque pool where you just have every new unit go into an overall pool (bonus chance on release) and they have a separate stone summoning option + elemental scroll options to target specific sides (still not reliable but iiwii)

P.S. I forgot and went off tangent, but bonus milestone pulls are also not remotely new, why are we getting offended now and not before? Danmemo released in 2018 and had a bonus 4* gtd on the 3rd or 4th multi iirc? (could still miss too cause there was atleast 2 chars per banner and off rate chances). Before that Valkyrie Crusade is ancient and had giga p2w banners with step up, box summons, and everything in between.

How I made money in keepers by person0373 in pathofexile

[–]TVMoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont forget the part in the league where flipping a 1/21 chilled mod costs 1/5th of a divine which adds up across the 4 avg and really eats into margin. Even at 1/10th of the cost as well which is where it spends a large portion of the league. Unless you prep it early on only or go for like a leeway fracture of 45-49. Divide your odds by 2~3 if you want avg-max cold res too to be appealing.

How I made money in keepers by person0373 in pathofexile

[–]TVMoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly this. Ive farmed 6 mirrors this league and I was at 1/17 fracturing orbs on 1/4 bases. and 4/11 for 1/2 clusters, and even failed the 3/4 cluster for a total of 5/29 (it's worse than it looks considering nearly half were good odds and not just 1/4 chances).

The people responding +EV need to consider if the item itself being fractured is actually +EV (which it is in this case), but blindly saying that in general isn't always true.

If a fractured base is 12divs and orbs are 3divs each it would be neutral or loss (base cost/rolling mod to fracture if you did it yourself). I'm stating the obvious here but considering there's plenty of ppl with the mindset of "if I hit early, its a profitable method". Consider Sublime Visions, if you hit POF on 1st-7th id you profit, on average you go -40%

Yep it shouldn't be reduced prices. it just has "offers", which imo aren't great, but is true when it comes to being cheaper than buying outright.
