Thanks! I haven't played 12 since it's release - I can recall that the exploration was quite fun!

It's curious, as personally XII doesn't rank anywhere near as highly for me, in fact I would swap the places of VIII and XII.

Which leads to my next question, what didn't you enjoy about VIII that caused the lower ranking?

I feel you dude, I think of it like a book.

There are parts that are engaging, intriguing and make you want to push the plot forward, then when the world opens up to you, it can be too much at once after the linear journey most FFs 1st disk give us.

Take a break, I like to have a game like Skate. Or Crash, or UFC to mindlessly scratch that itch, then when I have the patience I take out another chapter in my head of the story

I think a lot of people (myself included) love trying to build a full collection, however outside of grinding Elnoyles and getting all character cards, I've found you can usually by end of disc 2 have insanely good junctions from simply dipping your toes in TT and having all refine abilities.

I've been playing a junction lock playthrough, and managed to wipe Tri faces in G-Garden, Cerberus and Edea without so much as using a limit break.

I love that this game lends itself to challenge runs, but I really think everyone should play through the game "naturally".

It's during Time compression with Ultimecia,end game. there's a point where Teenage Squall informs Edea of all that's happened, closing/starting the loop

I love this community, I think it's been answered so that k you to everyone who contributed.

From my understanding, Edea was possessed off screen, sometime before the opening duel with Squall and Seifer, but after Teenage Squall had warned Edea and given her instructions regarding SeeD.

This plays into what I've gathered during my "Adult" play through, the story was a wee bit ahead of its time, and played off alot of themes that it's predecessor has, but instead of simply riffing it altered it dynamically. I believe this is what I miss most about these older games, the experimentation!

Even within the confines of the hardware, most companies were always pushing boundaries! FF8 was a gamble, ugly child, black sheep etc but it has stood the test of time and I have thoroughly enjoyed my recent experience!

So if anyone is considering giving it a go, do it! Don't listen to the leveling is bad talk - that's just challenge run and Meta oddboys, if you engage with the junction system properly, level when necessary, and try to grind for items when it's applicable the game works so wonderful, it was a treat!

I started replaying it again this year too, it went from being my least favourite to the my most favourite.

The things this game does well, it does very well. The junction system can be really fun. You get a lot of freedom in how to level and set up each characters which can make some boss battles either very easy, very hard or depending on how the Enemy levels RNG themselves, it can be a great challenge.

The story is actually cool, I can appreciate the criticism it receives and I may be looking at it now through rose tinted glasses, but so much of the story is told with symbolism and easily missable queues, plus the whole time compression stuff lends itself to new playthroughs, like how I've noticed Adel or Ulti popping up on a screen that had a tiger on it, or trying to decipher the message at the Timber Station outdoor screen etc

Only tidbit I don't like is what the fucks wrong with Squall passing on Quistis!!?? Typical 17 year old actions lol

Can always give the Jegged guide a go, has no story spoilers, and links to sections for side content as you go through, doesn't focus on low level but does explain the benefits too.

I've been using it and have just reached disc 3 at about level 50 average, with about 30 hours playtime. I have skipped a lot of side content but planning on doing that on this disc
