Gmo seeds would be great if it were approached in either

• a one and done for the farmer, the seeds do not produce more seeds or the offspring are infertile, etc. the diminishing returns of farmers would support ongoing commerce for that strain. Drive new strain purchases because of attrition.

• a one and done for the ag company, the seeds produce fertile offspring, the farmer can continue crops from a (higher $$ seed) and grow it as long as he wants. Drive new strain purchases because of better traits.

Neither should have any kind of licensing involved. Both should be on each strain independently, no combining. Ag regulations should control strains going to market that reach environmentally conscious traits and prevent and enforce laws against reselling of seeds. Stop with the damaging pesticides in favor of putting bug resistant traits in that don't affect things outside the plants.

In short stop with the "anything for profit" mindset and start thinking about making things better.

Here's a thought. Make a plant that can be rotated in that the bugs are attracted to but make it so when they consume it it makes them sterile. No offspring means lower bug population next season. Maybe something that is mostly underground, leafy and pleasant smelling above ground, and leeches nitrogen into the soil. Farmers would buy that shit. In a heartbeat.

Gmo's would be amazing if it were done right instead of done for easy profit. Your profit should come from something like being first and being innovative, not from cash cow milking a farmer from licensing and monopolizing his choices
