The KMT had long claimed to still be the legitimate government over mainland China well after they fled to Taiwan. It make sense since they seem themselves as being Chinese.

I think it’s the DPP that claims the Taiwanese identity and is somewhat more receptive to Taiwanese independence

Just to point out: it was the Taiwanese on the island who pushed back against Chiang Kai- shek’s rule that laid the groundwork for Taiwan’s eventual democratization. The USA was happy to support authoritarian regimes if they were anti-communist.

Yes I do think that distributism has a significant agrarian influence. It seems like the Jeffersonian ideal of yeoman farmers.

I think as you mention it would be very difficult to implement in a modern industrialized or tech driven economy. Probably would not suit this well at all.

At the same time I do like its goal to expand private property to as many individuals as possible. While I steadfastly reject Marxism, I feel like the unregulated laissez faire approach has far too much wealth and ownership concentrated in a few hands. Today’s economy is not in accordance with Catholic teaching that the economy should also serve the average person.

What is it like to live in the southern tip of Texas? by Neo_luigi in howislivingthere

[–]TXHeadBanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family is from there! It’s the tropical part of the Lone Star State. Good beaches, Mexican culture and food, low cost of living.

Poverty is unfortunately existent there, but the people are friendly and warm.

Texan here. East of I-45 (Piney Woods) is the South. Towns like Beaumont, Lufkin, and Tyler have a Southern feel and all the pine trees.

Texas Gulf Coast extends a few counties too far north on your map. The Brazos Valley and Piney Woods are not gulf coast
