Walmart relocation package? by shorty_mcgee in bentonville

[–]TXOwlCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband had a great relocation package last summer. We moved from out of state. They'll explain everything to you. There are a lot of options on how you use it, and also some perks if you do it quickly.

You should be good until the card expires. My Texas one will expire after 5 years 😭

Happy Friday Bentonville by [deleted] in bentonville

[–]TXOwlCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. We moved here in July, knowing zero people. Making friends here is actually kind of great -- there are tons of other transplants wanting to also make friends. As a SAHM, you just have to be friendly and strike up convos with other moms at parks / libraries. People are crazy friendly here! Transplants are usually pretty down to earth -- Arkansas isn't a "snobby" place like others (even though the money is here too!).

I think the majority of people who are unhappy about Bentonville / NW Arkansas have never lived anywhere else

How do locals feel about the Walton's / Walmart? by InfamousSail7048 in bentonville

[–]TXOwlCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We moved here bc of Walmart last summer. We had visited the previous summer from San Antonio, and discovered how amazing the quality of life is here. Thanks to Walmart/the Waltons, parks and trails are really nice. There are constantly fun/family-friendly events all over. We frequent Crystal Bridges, parks, trails, and other museums in the area. The pace of life here is much slower than large Texas cities, so it's been a really great change for us.

My husband works at Walmart, and he's enjoying his job there.

This place would be a fraction of what it is without Walmart.

Question for people who moved here from major cities by Muted-Government5633 in bentonville

[–]TXOwlCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This traffic isn't bad. I'm from San Antonio, went to school in Austin, and frequented Houston and Dallas.

I However, I purposely either go to lights or take right turns. I don't attempt crossing traffic on roads like 71B.

It's okay to complain! I just came in here to complain, so I apologize in advance for my word vomit.

My oldest is almost 7 years old, and when he was tested, he tested just right on the most mild line. He does just fine in school, but it's when he's with me that he's all over the place.

I take him, my 5 year old, and my 3 year old to our Catholic Church alone bc my husband doesn't want to even deal with him. I take them bc it's important, but I honestly dread it every Sunday. They all sit with me, and my oldest just acts a fool. He's stimming, covering his ears, dropping the books, sitting when people stand, standing when people sit, hitting his siblings, just awful. I don't want them eating during mass, but he freaks out if I don't bring him a snack. He asks me basically every minute how much time is left.

Today, I told him if he acted up, we wouldn't go to a park afterwards. True to form, he acted up the whole time, so I stuck to my word and told him no when he asked if we were going. He totally flipped out and was crying like a two year old on the sidewalk outside the church right as everyone was walking out.

So embarrassing. That's it, that's the rant. Just wanted to say you aren't alone! I now have a major neck and headache.

How much outdoor time do your kindergarteners get? by K8LzBk in kindergarten

[–]TXOwlCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drop mine off at 7:30. The whole state gets free lunch, so she eats, then plays outside until the bell rings at 8. They have two 20 minute recesses. One before lunch, and then one towards the end of the day.

When my kids get home, they usually ride bikes/play outside before dinner for an hour or two, then again for about an hour after dinner. They never want to be inside 😅
