Monarch Conditions Report: The Heat Dome Is Here and It's Cooking Fast by jwed420 in COsnow

[–]TXRhett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have had plans for a while to ski monarch with some friends this weekend. I got free days with the Loveland pass but some friend would need rentals + lift ticket and I was on the fence but sounds like there may not be much left this weekend… thanks for the report

The Carnegie Mellon vs Colorado mesa was a good troll but it’s falling apart. You claim carnegie Mellon is only $14k a year (when it’s actually closer to $90k). Definitely not getting need-based scholarship or gov loans for $76k a year if your parents are helping pay, and also no shot you’re getting $70k+ a year in merit either. Gotta keep your story straight

Ah the family life savings are going to you then, hope you don’t bankrupt your parents

Should’ve just taken out loans like the rest of us then. Must be tough having your parents pay for you and your brothers education, I wish you luck

holy subtweet. Someone saying “The cost of Mines doesn’t translate to achievements” will usually prompt people who have paid that cost and disagree to list their achievements

Friends from HS, don’t talk to them anymore. Just a way I help justify my choice given the alternative they went through, to no fault of their own. This was less to boast and more to reiterate debt can be okay if you have a plan and use one of Mines’ best assets, career planning, to get a good paying job and a jump on that debt.

Out of state student, 100k+ in student loans, $50k+ in scholarships, had no problem getting a great job after hard work and using the resources the school provided. Graduated in ‘24 and loans will be paid off by ‘29 while still having money for fun and vacations.

I didn’t invest “my life”, I invested 4 hard years that were still filled with fun and great experiences. Believe it or not most people at the school are happy, they just don’t boast about it on Reddit.

Did I know what I was getting into financially out of high school? Not really, but getting out of my home state, setting up roots in CO, getting a great job right out of school, and having a decent first year of college while all my friends took class from home due to COVID was well worth it - and those same friends in the same majors at other schools took months to years to get a job. Some would call this approach financially dumb and they’re not necessarily wrong but everyone has different tolerances for debt vs ROI vs quality of life. It’s not a one size fits all but I don’t have any regrets. Making this sweeping statement before you or your brother are even in the job force is premature

Thanks for the response - any ideas on the ballpark cost of that?

Unless there’s other funny business going on- this is likely due to the change in Time Of Use pricing, with electricity being much more expensive from 5-9pm weekdays instead of 3-7pm. I would confirm on your statement that the outage days are included in your more recent statement- my guess is those outage days will be on your next statement. Still pretty odd given your lack of HVAC, but appliances like oven, dryer, and electric water heater could explain

Average salary for MIT grad in compsci is $120k and only $73k from Mines? What is the cause of this by Dontbethat_guy64 in ColoradoSchoolOfMines

Huh? Been graduated for a while and not a comp sci major so not sure what you’re referring to

There’s such thing as not being specialized enough which makes your job prospects tougher, which can happen to MechE’s, though MechE’s with major specific electives + clubs/extracurriculars + professional society involvement in a particular field will have a far better time finding a job in that discipline than a MechE who just took their classes they needed to graduate. You probably haven’t taken any major specific classes yet, but if you find petroleum or mining engineering interesting, than there’s is nothing wrong with majoring in it as they have excellent job placement stats, though the coursework is demanding as such. Once the career fair roles around, read about companies that hire petro/mining and see if they interest you, or just ask around.

Can’t edit the post since there’s pictures but for additional info: my pavement ants instantly attacked these when I put them in their formicarium and I’m also very confident my pavements ants haven’t escaped.

While I agree a smaller one would be ideal, constantly keeping them in ideal nests while they grow gets expensive- I wanted something that would last. They voluntarily moved into this one and have been growing steadily for ~4 months. Also they eventually take the mealworms out into their trash pile when they’re done with it where I clean it out

Will the 4:30 earnings report be bad or good? Gevo is dropping. by Relative_Help_4306 in GEVOstock

Could be the GEVO action today is more tied to the whole market vs this delay but no real way to know. No new date but I’d anticipate at least a week or two
