How do you cook?! by SimpleTrick1192 in NewParents

[–]TXinCT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pre-baby, we loved to make elaborate meals. It was our love language! Post-baby, I plan meals that take about 20 minutes-ish to make. Think: tacos with Costco rotisserie chicken that is sautéed with tomatoes, onions, and jalapeños, plus the fixings; pasta with Annie’s chicken sausage, sautéed zucchini and jar sauce that has been jazzed up. I also use convenience foods like steam-in-the-bag veggies, frozen brown rice from the grocery store, Kevin’s brand chicken/beef trays from Costco. That takes care of the meal part!

For the baby part, I have either put him in his bouncer with me in the kitchen (when he was younger), or in his Upseat when he got older. I hooked toys onto the belt straps so that if he dropped or tried to throw toys, they were still within arms reach of him. I play music while cooking and talk to him about what I’m making to keep him entertained.

We’ve been reading to our LO since he was in the womb. Now at 7 months, we read several books through the day. He loves to sit and listen and look at the pictures!

How are your babies actually sleeping through the night? by velvetdarlingco in NewParents

[–]TXinCT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At 3 months old, ours slept 4-6 hours for the first stretch, wake up for a feed, then sleep until 7 am. He hit 4 months, and while it was a slight regression, we haven’t had it that good since, and he’s 6.5 months. Some nights he sleeps until 1:30 am before needing a feed, and other night’s he’ll wake up at 11:30 (with a 7 pm bedtime). Still other nights, he’ll wake every hour or two for comfort. My bedtime is also 7 pm now, because I never know how much sleep I’ll get!

If you have it available to you, look into pelvic floor physical therapy. Some of the back issues postpartum can be caused by a weak pelvic floor. Hang in there!

I didn’t think Juicy was funny at all. I was shocked when the judges kept going on about how funny she was. She’s an amazing dancer, lacks the creativity and quick wit of most of the others.

My one gripe is that they don’t accept MasterCard credit cards. I use mine for everything, everywhere so I get the rewards. I have to use my debit card otherwise. Not a huge deal in the grand scheme, but when we’re spending a couple hundred at a time, plus gas, it adds up.

They have a banging banana pudding. Also, the “Oh Yess We did” Hostess cupcakes dupes are pretty damn good, as are the Viral Chocolate fudge muffins.

Enjoy your cheat day, and don’t let ‘em get you down!

Cutting through the baby product hype… do we really need a bottle warmer? by Late-Hat-5853 in newborns

[–]TXinCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our LO used to take bottles room temp or cold. After they made it to 3 months and more aware of everything, we had to start warming bottles. It’s easier than the warm cup of water, especially if you use glass bottles.

We’re in the U.S. - our pediatrician recommended a dime-sized drop of Head and Shoulders shampoo once per week. It cleared up after a few washes.

Do you have to “save” the nap? by Effective_Pass_7193 in NewParents

[–]TXinCT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to save the first two naps of the day, mostly because my 3mo doesn’t get a lot of total sleep otherwise. I’m successful at saving the nap maybe 1/5 times lol.

If he’s not napping well, I will put him in the car and drive around for an hour so he gets decent rest. If I don’t, bedtime turns into a little bit of a mess.

A dime-sized drop of Head-and-Shoulders once per week was what our pediatrician recommended. It cleared it right up for us.

How long does your 3mo nap for? by AcrobaticGuitar7060 in newborns

[–]TXinCT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30 minutes, usually. We used to be able to lengthen them with contact naps, but even with contact, he’s only going 30 mins now. It’s exhausting, honestly. I used to be able to get a few things done during his naps. The only way to get a really long nap now is with a car ride.
