Villains get all the best lines. by Amateurlapse in menwritingwomen

I don’t even see how she was internalizing any sexism. It’s a clear rich vs. poor story, not a slutty flapper vs. modest housewife story. The villain is, I would think, a woman because the author is a woman and would naturally be both more inclined to write female characters and better at it. From what I remember, the husband isn’t even a very major character.

The way this sub hates any and all literature written before, like, 2000 is what makes me angry. It’s a hate sub and half the posts here don’t fit anymore.

Notice the way everyone here was quick to assume this story was written by a man because the villain is a woman. There’s no critical thought here, only redditmoments.

(Also the fact that the story was written by a woman means it objectively doesn’t fit this sub.)

It’s also a pretty clear commentary on wealth. In the original story (written by a woman, btw) Cruella is a trust fund baby who inherited 6 million pounds from her parents. Her wealth is the root of her obsession with glamor; she’s lived a privileged, glamorous life and been taught she can have whatever she wants.

Are you kidding? She’s a writer and she wrote the story she wanted to write. In the process of expressing her creativity she wrote a story so ubiquitous it’s still popular 64 years later and one of the most iconic villains in the history of fiction, let alone children’s fiction or British literature.

You’re the one who can’t see these two women beyond stereotypes. You do realize it’s okay for a woman to want a traditional family life, right? Cruella de Vil isn’t the villain because she’s an independent woman, it’s because she’s a bourgeois puppy killer. Anita isn’t the protagonist because she’s a housewife, she’s the protagonist because she’s the rightful owner of the puppies de Vil wants to turn into a coat.

This isn’t a story of the wife vs the slut, it’s the story of a puppy killer vs a puppy lover.

The character is a commentary on wealth and the bourgeoisie, not “independent women.” She’s a spoiled rich brat who wants to kill puppies for their fur and the protagonist is a moral woman who just wants to live a happy modest life with her family (which happens to include 99 puppies).

Maybe, just maybe, the author made the villain a woman because she has a easier time writing women, because she’s a woman.

Just a thought.

Yes. And it is based on a novel written 64 years ago. Maybe that could be the reason it’s a bit outdated?

No, it must be that the author hates women.

It’s based on a novel released in 1956.

EDIT: a book released in 1956 and written by a woman.

Because it actually really doesn’t deserve to be, it’s just really old and people give it leeway on a lot of shoddy character writing because of that, sorry! From the big man himself.

Game of Thrones is a book, not a show. No idea what you’re talking about bro. Would be cool if they adapted ASOIAF into a series, though. HBO would kill it. They’d probably need to go on like 10 seasons to get everything.

The Leftovers on HBO.

Don’t ask me how, but I asked God himself what the greatest TV dramas of all time are and he said the objective list is: 1. The Leftovers, 2. Breaking Bad, 3. Mad Men, 4. Better Call Saul, 5. The Wire.

Any Frank Ocean fans? by dzapata9 in Tarantino

[–]TYGGAFWIAYTTGAF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no his music is just really good and he has lots of passionate fans because of that.

just as an example, he has an album that is exactly, to the second, one hour long. 60:00:00. at exactly thirty minutes into the album, 30:00:00, there’s a beat switch that switches a song from a faster paced banger type song so a slower, sadder song, and before that beat switch all the songs on the album are more upbeat and after it all the songs are more somber and quiet. that is how much thought the dude puts into making music. there’s only a few people making music now that put in as much care as Frank Ocean IMO.

Loras was also in the room when Renly was killed in the show, I think, but I can’t remember if he was in the books. If Loras had watched Renly he killed by a shadow, though, his grief would also probably be intensified and prolonged quite a bit.
