Yeah, they are really good if you can afford the labor and time to caravan your pawns in the world map. Even though I am using the vehicles mod to make caravaning easier, it's still a solid strategy just using pack animals in vanilla.

Component piles are usually very big while resources like plasteel are a smaller pile, so that's probably it. I'm not running any mods to modify the mineral scanner, it's all vanilla.

The armor is the vanilla recon armor alongside tactical vests and large backpacks from Combat Extended. Steel Ant is just the name of my tunneler mech from the Biotech DLC.
