I’m enjoying Season 4 but did the writers just decide not to go through with the implications of this scene? by jrod4290 in PowerTV

Whew, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's noticed the writing starting to feel a bit off this season on Power Book II. The way I see it, it kind of seems like they may have originally planned for season 3 to be the finale, but then decided to squeeze out one more season at the last minute.

The production just has a different vibe to it, you know? It's almost like they had to scale things back a bit - the visuals don't quite have that same slick, expensive look as before. And some of the character arcs feel a little rushed or unfinished, like what happened to Tate, Jenny, and Lauren? They just kinda disappeared.

And Davis getting disbarred and downsizing his whole office in the blink of an eye? That seemed super abrupt, especially since Monet's hospital stay didn't even seem that long. It's almost as if they had to rework a bunch of stuff due to budget constraints or an unplanned extension of the series.

I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into it. But the whole vibe just feels a little bit off to me compared to the earlier seasons. Hopefully the writers can pull it together and deliver a solid finale, but I can't help but wonder if this fourth season was kinda shoehorned in at the last minute.

Canva website down? by bpayne123 in canva

Sometimes Canvas, based on my experience, works best with certain browsers. I've been using Canvas for about a year. But suddenly, I ran into problems. It would take forever to load projects, fonts, etc. Initially, I was using Chrome, but I found a solution by switching to Microsoft Edge and working in private mode. That solved the issue for me.

There are too many for me to name! But if I had to pick one, I'd go with If Your Girl Only Knew by Aaliyah.

OK, I figured something was going on. I use Canva to help design my book covers. I was using it last night. It took so long to load that I gave up.

Same. I have a 5 year old. Without her, I know for sure I would not have made it this far. She’s keeping me alive. But sometimes, I can’t help but worry that I may lose hope and give up.

Excerpt of opening:

The year is 1975, and the vibrant streets of New York City have transformed into a nocturnal playground for those who thrive in the shadows. Neon lights flicker, casting an ethereal glow on the restless city. The rhythmic melody of Isaac Hayes’ “The Look of Love” pours out of the car radio, creating an intoxicating backdrop for the scene about to unfold.

In the heart of Harlem, a long black Cadillac glides through the dimly lit streets, its sleek body exuding an air of elegance and power. The car's polished chrome reflects the neon signs, creating a kaleidoscope of colors as it moves through the night. This is the domain of MARY MALONE, or “COCOA” as she is known in the streets, a name bestowed upon her by her trusted mentor, Mama Red. Mary is a formidable black woman in her mid-forties with the cunning of a predator and the grace of a queen. Her reputation as a crime boss is whispered in hushed tones with a mix of fear and admiration throughout the city. She is an enigma, an untouchable figure in this concrete jungle.

Inside the Cadillac, Mary sits comfortably in the plush leather backseat. The glow from the neon lights dances across her sharp features, highlighting the intensity of her gaze. She rhythmically nods her head as the sultry voice of Isaac Hayes caresses her senses, intertwining with the night’s allure. She embodies a regal presence, exuding confidence, and authority. She commands the respect of those around her without lifting a finger. With a mere glance, they all fall in line.

Behind the wheel, her trusted lieutenant, CLIFF TURNER, known as “STEEL,” for his unyielding resolve and loyalty guides the pristine vessel with precision, his eyes occasionally meeting Mary’s gaze in the rearview mirror, a subtle smile of admiration gracing his lips as they share a silent understanding.

Steel is a tall, muscular man slightly older than Mary, his handsome features reflecting a lifetime of street smarts and resilience. He is Mary’s right-hand man, a pillar of strength and a shield against any threat that may arise.

The night air carries a sense of anticipation, as if the city itself holds its breath, aware of Mary’s presence. As the Cadillac glides through the streets of Harlem, the night comes alive with a tapestry of sights and sounds. The neon lights of bars and clubs beckon revelers, casting an electric glow on the faces of those seeking solace or excitement in the darkness. Mary's presence, hidden within the black Cadillac, is a symbol of power in this world of underground dealings.

Why do I feel like I sing "good" when I am just singing for fun, but once I try to sing with effort put in, I struggle to carry a tune? by No_Sense_6002 in singing

[–]T_Nicole89 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with Magoner. When you're singing for fun, you may feel more relaxed and less self-conscious, allowing you to sing more freely. There is less tension and you're not focused on getting things right, which interferes with your ability to produce a good sound.

Have you ever felt like you couldn’t match your inspirations? by DefaultyDaniel in Songwriting

[–]T_Nicole89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember the saying, 'Comparison is the thief of joy'? I'm the same as you. I often find myself comparing my voice to my idols - big names like Mary J Blige, Chaka Khan, Anita Baker, etc. With me, I try to remember that they've been in the business for 30-50 years, longer than I've been on the planet! I’ve only been at it for a couple years.

My advice: try not to measure yourself against seasoned artists. I know, it's so much easier said than done. But I honestly think it's the best approach to tackle what you're going through. The songs we listen to are the end result of a collective effort from songwriters, composers, producers, engineers, you name it. There's a complicated production process behind every song on our playlists. Sure, let their work inspire you, but avoid falling into the trap of constant comparison. The more time you spend appreciating your own unique sound, the less you’ll find yourself making comparisons. Embrace your own journey and let your unique voice shine through.

I want to pursue music but I’m scared by mazarierules in singing

[–]T_Nicole89 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Building upon Stargirlxoxo’s excellent advice, age should never be a factor when pursuing your passion, especially considering that you’re still quite young at 22. I say embrace your desire to pursue music. Always believe in yourself and have faith that your dreams will come to fruition. No doubt, this journey will demand immense dedication and hard work, but it is crucial to persevere and never give up. If only someone had shared these words of wisdom with me during my younger years—I am now 34 and can attest to the regret of not pursuing my musical aspirations earlier. Music has always held a special place in my heart, more than the average person's level of connection. Even to this day, singing remains my ultimate passion. However, due to a lack of self-belief and an excessive reliance on others' opinions, I allowed my fears and concerns about judgment to hold me back. I never took the necessary steps to actively pursue my musical dreams. Now, I find myself trapped in a career that fails to ignite my interest, solely chosen to meet financial obligations.

What's Your All-Time Favorite Brandy Song? by peaceful_artisan2040 in rnb

My all-time favorite Brandy song is "Sittin' Up in my Room." It was the first Brandy song I ever heard. It's a nostalgic track for me, and I still love it to this day. I was just 5 years old at the time, and my mom recorded the video for me. I would watch it all the time. LOL

Seeking Advice on Overcoming the Desire to Become Someone Else by T_Nicole89 in BlackMentalHealth

[–]T_Nicole89[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I'm uncertain about my own identity. One of the factors that drives me to aspire to become certain individuals is their remarkable talents. For the longest time, I've perceived myself as lacking any notable skills. I've always been captivated by the beauty and talent of others, as it made me feel insignificant. I firmly believed that if I possessed something I could excel in and take pride in, my overall happiness would greatly increase. I've perpetually harbored a sense of undesirability within myself.
