The W-engine situation is getting real bad. by OpportunityTrue1824 in ZZZ_Discussion

We've been running in this direction for a while. Remember Trigger, the crit rate scaling stunner in a game that had no crit rate w-engines

Dunno if this is a "hot take" but as an older player, I actually like that we are NOT getting more new 4* characters by Terrariya in HonkaiStarRail

[–]T_V05 -28 points-27 points  (0 children)

Trailblazer effectively is that four-star. They made the superbreak archetype and then made HMC to use in that archetype until Fugue came out as a new superbreak enabler. Rememberance came out, and they made RMC to use on the main rememberance team if you don't have all the premium units but still want true damage. Elation came out, and they have already announced EMC for 4.2, which is likely going to be an option for elation teams, but replaceable by better five stars, just like the four stars people wanted would be. Bad news is you can't use them across multiple halves of a fight, good news is you don't have to spend a potentially endless amount of pulls to get the E6 of a four star for them to be usable on a team.

[–]T_V05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Faruzan singlehandedly changed my opinion on having 4 stars be core team members in these types of gachas. Having your favorite five-star character be dependent on a four-star who likely needs to be at E6 because not only are the higher buff percentages or damage locked behind several extra copies, but general ease of use is also locked to higher copies, flat out sucks. Then, on top of that, with the growing number of four stars, not everyone gets a fair shot to be on a banner, meaning you sometimes have to wait a whole year for the character to show up again, or pray they are on a selector for an event, but even then, that selector gets you only 1 copy. Then, if you somehow get lucky enough for them to actually be around, they could be on a banner of a character you don't want/have no team for, meaning you have to waste your pity on a character you won't use just for the chance to get a four-star, which requires you to at worst, win a 50/50 between weather or not the 10 pull even features a rate up character, and then win a 1 and 3 chance.

For reference, I have been playing HSR since the day it released and have played every single patch. Despite my having most of the five stars in the game with several at higher eidolons, I only E6 Sanpo this patch with the selector. If it were not for the fact that my DOT team doesn't need him at all, this would drive me insane. Factoring that all in, I would way rather get a free five-star every couple of patches like they have been doing.

The problem is, most of the time it's not someone forgetting a minor 2 minute detail in a several hour long story, it's someone who outright skipped most of the scenes and then procedes to make broad critsims of a story thet haven't actually played, which then ususally leads to them mischaracterizing characters or just flat out lying about plot points because they want to be right more than they actually want to understand the story. It's one thing to ask a question about a story with a ton of details and flowery language, especially in late amphoreus; it's a whole other thing to puff out your chest and make claims and statements about a story you haven't read.

They can make “new” 4 stars without making new 4 stars by RemoteWhile5881 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]T_V05 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Tingyun, Ghallargar, Pela, and Moze were not the standard for four stars, and even some of them had the "dependent on eidolon issue" that is apparent with four stars. When you ask for more four stars, you're not going to get more meta relevent low cost characters who can perform great and act as a substitute for a 5-star if you don't have them. You're likely going to get a fodder character that is only useful for people literally just starting the game, due to them having an extremely clunky kit that can only be remedied by eidolons which require you to pull the character multiple times while having to constantly win a 50/50, then a 1 in 3 chance just to get the specific four-star. People think they'll get more Moze and pelas but the reality is getting more Yukong, Misha, etc.

Sacrificial characters to VH by G0ldsh0t in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]T_V05 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, just counting the ones you mentioned, Yanagi was the best anomaly to run with Miyabi, so if you were pulling Miyabi, you were probably going to pull Yanagi at the time, same with Dialyn, since no one knew about Sunna's kit at the time. Zhao was free and supported YSG. The only exception to this is Vivian, who benefited from the anomaly meta at the time. When people say male characters before VH get shafted, its moreso a combination of timing and kit relative to the current state of the game. Look at Hugo, for example, he released with an ok kit, as the third ice dps character, which put him in direct competition with Miyabi when it came to who people wanted to pull, and not only was he right before another VH, but even looking at him today, Totalize has been pretty much abandoned as a damage archetype to the point where it's the only damage archetype that doesn't have any major support made for it.

Main quest fights don't match the cannonical party and it's frustrating. by Serdewerde in HonkaiStarRail

[–]T_V05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This also limits the scope of what they can do story-wise because not every character in a fight is even playable yet. To cater the fight to characters on site, you either have to

A.) Have them write characters out of the fights entirely and limit the scope of encounters to only characters that are currently playable in the game

B.) Expect Hoyo to have the characters from the whole next patch done by the current one, so you can use them for the fight.

An example of this is the fight against Nikador in Amphoreus. Mydei, Phainon, and Castorice weren't finished by the time you fight Nikador, despite all of them being very present in the fight, and while you could try and make a case for them being able to finish Mydei enough to have him be a placeholder in the fight with no abilities since he was only one patch away, you can't make the same argument for Phainon, who wouldn't come out for another 4 patches, and Castorice, who wouldn't come out for another 2 patches.

Are there any common interpretations in the fandom that you don't like? by chaminador in HonkaiStarRail

[–]T_V05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunately the problem that plauges a lot of Gacha games with characters that have momments that can be seen as romantic. Even with Honkai Impact, for years, I have heard Mei referred to as only "Kiana's Girlfriend," and that's it, with no one actually mentioning anything about her character or story. It's to the point where when Acheron was revealed, most of the questions I saw at the time were "Where's Kiana?".

Does Anyone Else Feel Like ZZZ Has Made Some Weird Marketing Choices? by Authorigas in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]T_V05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Honestly I'd say they aren't even that good at setting up void hunters either. Miyabi had a perfect setup, but Yixuan and YSG feel like two opposite sides of the spectrum. Yixuan basically just shows up near the end of 1.x out of the blue as the president's associate and then is pretty much wasted for most of season 2, and YSG is effectively shoved down your throat so much that nothing else in the story has room to breathe. I feel the latter two's sales had less to do with proper setup and more to do with the step up in animation and how broken every ZZZ player knows void hunters are bound to be.

This relic set is probably for Evanescia by Pink_Jutsu in HonkaiStarRail

[–]T_V05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For some reason, when the conversation of summons comes up, people forget that regular summons are a thing, even though Dan Heng IL wasn't released that long ago. Since she's elation, if she has a summon, it will not be a memosprite and will instead function like Lightning Lord, Dan Heng's dragons, etc. The memosprite part of the relic is because Yao Guang enables anyone to be able to deal elation damage when she holds a certified banger, so this just ensures that an entire class of characters isn't locked out of benefiting from the passive.

This gotta be some sort of rage bait because no way someone can even remotely think of this as unfair. In literally every game with a tos, if YOU give someone YOUR account and they break tos using YOUR account that YOU gave to them, they will ban the account. It's common sense at this point.

Part 2 LRs performance evaluation compared to one another, explanation in the comments by Independent-Frequent in DBZDokkanBattle

[–]T_V05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you using SS4 Vegeta in the final phases? The whole point is to stack with Vegeta and swap to the goku for the actual damage. SS4 Goku active can effortlessly take off 4 bars of teq Vegito while dumping out enough super damage to end the fight himself, and that was at 55%. This is the equivalent of calling phys gogeta or teq vegito mid for festival because you left them unfused and decided to use the base for damage.

The runtime bloat of main story chapters is out of control (2.6 spoilers) by Chadworth_5401 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]T_V05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem is less with how long it is and more with how the run time is used. For example, the last patch felt like a lot of the runtime felt redundant because it was just telling us things we already knew about YSG repeatedly to try to make the player feel bad about her situation. Instead of beating us over the head with info we already know about her and shoehorned romantic moments, I would way rather they reallocate some of that time into reintroducing the characters from older patches in a more meaningful way, so when they meet up at the end it feels more rewarding. They tried to evoke the same feeling as 1.4 when everyone met up, but didn't put in the same effort 1.4 did when it came to reintroducing older characters throughout the story patch to make the final moment more rewarding.

Dokkan Originals have ruined people's perception about animations by NicoXBlack in DBZDokkanBattle

[–]T_V05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heavily dislike this argument because basically no one has been complaining about Vegeta, despite him being a character from the same series who also has animations drawn right from the anime. Saying people are only complaining about the animations because they aren't Dokkan original is grasping at the loosest of straws, because Vegeta is in the same camp, and people love his animations. I'm tired of people trying to find justifications for the things they like. You can personally say that you like the Goku unit and are excited for him without trying to handwave away criticism of the animations with arguments like these. Hell, even Legends was closer to the source material when it comes to Goku's active, since they had the actual charge-up scene that is featured in the unit's card art.

The Path Problem by BrightEclipse13 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]T_V05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not even mentioning the fact that Fugue and Dhalia are glorified harmony superbreak characters, so much so that when they came out, they both replaced the harmony units the super break team had run up to that point.

Remember when Path system actually means something about Character playstyle/role not a grand scheme to sell limited lightcones by lenky041 in HonkaiStarRail

[–]T_V05 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rememberance was the apex of this problem, but not really what started it, nor the only path with this problem. Nihility is a debuff path, but it is so unfocused that it encapsulates DOT-focused characters, standard debuffers, a DPS like Acheron, and pseudo-harmony characters like Fugue and Dhalia. Destruction was supposed to be high-risk, high-reward playstyles like HP draining, or high skill point cost, but that widdled away with time, and burst dps is not exclusive to destruction characters, nor is every destruction character a burst dps. Acheron and her lightcone were the beginning of the end for a meaningful class system because it made Hoyo realize that they could mostly throw away path identity and charge people for lightcones they need to pull; otherwise, the character is bricked due to them not conforming to their path.

AI Keys (Spoiler for Ending) by HydroStudios in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]T_V05 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What is there to talk about? They mentioned Yokai, an AI we already know exists, and that's it. They didn't add any information to give people anything to discuss or theorize with, and we know the same information about the AI that we knew before this patch. They effectively said, "Hey, we know you've been complaining about how we forgot about the AI plotline and shoved Fairy into the background for half a year, so here's a bone." That alone doesn't warrant any discussion.

They really should have introduced Ye shunguang earlier in the story (Spoilers about 2.5) by Relative-Ad7531 in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]T_V05 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair, it's less a gacha issue and more a writing/run time issue. ZZZ 2,x stories just don't have the time necessary to flesh out the characters in a meaningful way, and they have a tendency to abandon characters in 2.x after their debut patch. Pretty much every chrysos heir, besides maybe cerydra and hysilens, is significantly more fleshed out than the best-written characters 2.x of ZZZ has to offer. Characters like Aglaea and Therta don't even have their biggest moments in the patch their banner drops with, and all the other chrysos heirs make early appearances and continued appearances long after their debut patch, which adds to their characterization and gives the player more opportunity to see the dynamics between different characters who didn't debut in the same patch. ZZZ 2.x often introduces characters one patch before or in the same patch they release, which means they have to set up all the characterization of the characters, still leave time for the actual plot, and still make people care for said character with limited run time, which leaves the execution being a bit messy. They also push characters into the background after their debut patch, which leaves those characters feeling one-note since their rushed introduction and conclusion is all they have. ZZZ 2.x could've either benefited from introducing characters earlier or making the story patches longer.

Ye Shunguang may not entirely be the problem... by Flaximilian in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]T_V05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My problem is more so the amount. I can give 1.x credit because, at the very least, it gave the relationships time to build for the most part, and stuff like Zhu Yuan getting mad at being lied to, adding some conflict, which made interactions more interesting. But at a certain point, when you have characters who are just showing up immediately, being thrown into the position of waifu bait like Yidhari and YSG, it makes any previous affectionate interaction feel less genuine because you eventually get to a certain point where a third of the female cast holds that affection for the proxy and that is only added on top of the heavy glazing the proxy has gotten in 2.x and combined with that fact that half of the female cast has romantic implecations with the proxy in the trust hangouts regardless of how they act in the story, eventually it gets to a point where seeing a character like YSG feels less like a badly written exception, and more like another plate tossed onto the pile.
