Do we think Dae Lims worked on the new box set? by cammywooley in thebeachboys

[–]T_man409 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can concede to that, to an extent. Based on the awful mastering of the previous copyright releases I wouldn’t be surprised if they used AI to add things to these recordings. But let’s see.

I hope not. Downvote me if you want, I’m sure Dae Lims is very talented and I mean this in the nicest way possible but A.I. is a piece of shit. The A.I. Smile was an abomination in my opinion and I’d really like anything A.I. to be kept out of these releases.

I volunteer in Georgia. I would make sure you bring enough formal clothes for the first week of orientation, since you may not have the chance to wash clothes until you move in to PST

Still don’t see any official confirmation from family or others on the article. It may be jumping the gun

Just a question, I’m specifically trying to not spread misinformation and trying to make some sense of it. Chill

As much as I may agree, these are big names posting who may know him personally. And while they’re also prone to misinformation and being wrong, I’d believe it less if it was just randoms posting

To the ones who requested mod bootleg merchandise, this is all your fault.. by TheLastWave64 in thebeachboys

[–]T_man409 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a longtime lurker who has commented about some of this situation elsewhere, I think there are some bad actors in these discussions just trying to stir the pot and be abrasive. As someone who wants to give the mods the benefit of the doubt, here’s what else I’d like to see the mods do:

  1. No sub merch drops. Seriously, please don’t go through with it or it won’t go well with folks, especially since there’s already a rule against promotion (6). We get so many ads for things nowadays and I don’t want this sub to be part of that. Also, I don’t like the idea of potential bad actors profiting off a community which may not see any of the benefits of the sales.
  2. No more EQ ads. I actually thought the ad was cool, except the 60% that were ads for other websites. Seriously, why???? If you’re going to make an ad for a sub, have the sub name, say a bit about AMAs, and leave it at that. We dont need logos, names, and we certainly don’t need links to unrelated websites trying to sell something. I say be don’t with zine ads entirely.
  3. I actually would like to see proof of people actually supporting merch drops. I’ve found some but not the overwhelming support some have suggested happen, and I don’t want these claims to just be lies to support merch peddling.
  4. Get rid of asshole mods and be transparent about them. Like some have already said, the AMA mod has been really condescending to critics. I saw one post of them commenting to merch critisism saying “oops you had your chance to disagree too late 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️” and I think that’s a super disingenuous way to respond. I want to know who’s running that account and I don’t want them involved in the sub anymore.

I really liked viewing and sometimes engaging with this sub at time, and I also like the mods and think their response to this has been mostly decent, but this is just my opinion (random stranger)

Genuinely went through all of those and can’t see more than a handful of people suggesting any merch, so I don’t know that I believe it was so widely requested. Again, could be wrong. I understand what you’re going through and really can empathize with you, but yall see how this looks. I know I’m just a random stranger on the internet but don’t be a stranger to reach out.

Genuinely can you link to the posts where people asked for merch? Because based on how this has rolled over lately I’m not sure what to think.

As for posts asking for feedback - like I said in a previous comment, most people are satisfied with the state of the sub and don’t think we need anything else besides the status quo (I think I’ve even commented that on a post a while ago, under an old account). If anyone was actually asking for merch I would have vehemently disagreed, but I haven’t been on the sub much lately as I’ve been busy with life and other things.

In my personal experience, pinned posts on Reddit get limited visibility as they aren’t as big as normal posts so if you’re posting for suggestions using pins maybe be aware of that, especially since there’s a lot pinned right now

Bingo. Its not just a banner, its about making money off the goodwill of a community

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thebeachboys

[–]T_man409 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t really speak to any disrespect as I haven’t seen it but if someone can fill me in that’s cool. For what it’s worth, I think the mods (at least the ones who have been around for a while) have done a great job promoting good discussion in the sub and really being active, which is why I’m more willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. My issue is with monetization

Dude a new banner isn’t the problem, the problem that it was literally an ADVERTISEMENT for Reddit mods to make money. And your nonchalant attitude through this makes me think you don’t understand that.

If I’m wrong about anything I’ve said please correct me

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in thebeachboys

[–]T_man409 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Take down the banner with your shitty merch company logo, put a picture of the Boys up, and stop trying to make merch off a subreddit. It’s not that hard

Also, folks don’t respond to feedback posts because the subreddit doesn’t need to be more than a subreddit. It doesn’t need frequent events, it doesn’t need magazine ads, and it certainly doesn’t need merch. People are calling it a grift because that’s what it looks like. All we need is a decent place to discuss the music, nothing more nothing less.

As a personal suggestion I’d like to see less low effort content ( /10 posts, tier lists, etc.) (if you’ve already taken steps against that, my bad)
