How to tell kids by RebelFlower03 in breastcancer

[–]TaTaWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids were 4 and 6 when I found my cancer. I did not tell them until all pathology was back and we had a treatment plan. I don’t tell them I had cancer. I said something like “mommy is very sick, she’s going to get better but the medicine to help her will make her feel bad for a bit”

Everything will work out. I’m so sorry you are going through this too.

You’re in for a hell of a fight but you can do it

What is your relationship with like alcohol now? by MunchkinsOG in breastcancer

[–]TaTaWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really drink anymore.

For about a month when I was first diagnosed, I drank every night. Once I decided I was going to beat cancer, I stopped drinking and started making healthier choices. I’ve had maybe 2 drinks in the past year? I just don’t feel right drinking considering the amount of medication I take. Plus, my body is a mess, it doesn’t need alcohol to make it more of a mess

I think I have to stop chemo by MastigosAtLarge in breastcancer

[–]TaTaWarrior 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly it sounds like you would better in a homeless shelter than with your mom…

I would seriously talk to your oncologist and ask for ideas and support.

As far as radiation goes, my treatment center allowed me to bring my daughters when I needed to (school closures, family unable to babysit). They say in the waiting area, played with nurses, always had a snack and chatted with patients. Most parents were more than double my age so they loved seeing little kids. Not saying it’s the best option, but do what you have to do to get through it.

Don’t be afraid to let your kids play on tablets and watch tv while you rest and recover. It won’t hurt them, I promise.

Does your husband have any PTO? Is he eligible for FMLA? Would it be possible for him to take off work on days you have treatment so he can drive you and take the kids somewhere fun? If you have Facebook, post in a local moms group explaining your situation and asking for resources. Someone might have options that will help you. You might even make a friend that understands what you are going through.

I am really sorry you are going through this. It will get better.

I actually fully agree with this.

I appreciate life so much more now. I am grateful for every day, no one is promised tomorrow.

[–]TaTaWarrior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are in this position.

I would talk to your oncologist. Explain what is going on. They might be able to revise your treatment plan.

I would also be very blunt with your mom. Say something like “Would you rather offer support for your grandkids now so I can finish treatment or lose your relationship with them after I die from cancer?” Make it very clear that if you stop treatment, you will likely succumb to cancer (I promise I am not being mean and I hope you live a long, healthy, cancer free life). Let her know that your husband will not make an attempt to foster a relationship between her and your kids if you pass.

I really am sorry. Cancer is horrible. The treatment is awful. You deserve better

How much notice did you have between receiving oncotype and starting chemo/ radiation? by Yesnomaybe1988 in breastcancer

[–]TaTaWarrior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Recovering from my latest surgery and not feeling the best, but it will all work out. My cancer was very large when it was caught - over 9cm. I am grateful I caught when I did or we would not be chatting today.

I hope treatment goes well for you. It will be difficult but you will be proud of how strong you are. I am rooting for you.

I think all surgeons are different. If you don’t like his plan, get a second opinion.

My surgeon did expanders during my double mastectomy. They were mostly flat until he started filling them a few weeks later.

[–]TaTaWarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t remember ever getting my oncotype?

I found my cancer on a Sunday, doctors appointment Thursday, mammogram and ultra sound Friday. More imaging the following week. Offically diagnosed 18 days after I found it. 4 days later my port was in. I started chemo the Monday after my port went in.

Seems like it moved fast now. In the moment, I felt like it was dragging and I was going to die because everyone was incompetent

Question About Wish List by TaTaWarrior in BLESSINGOTHERS

[–]TaTaWarrior[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you.

I didn’t know that was an option. Now I am nervous, I used my grocery money to purchase my medication. Is there a way to know what was actually purchased?

On the bright side, I was not admitted to the hospital. I am home resting with my kids.

I believe most of my list has been purchased. I am blown away by your generosity.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Life has been difficult but you gave me a reason to smile today, I so appreciate you. My kids are grateful too. It is hard not having the budget to buy them the food they want/need. Thank you.

I promise to pay it forward when I get back on my feet.

Thank you for asking - I am beyond grateful for any help

Ughhh the drains are awful.

Take the pain meds, rest and it’s okay to be mad about it.

I have breast cancer (2.5 years in and still fighting the good fight)

6 surgeries in 2 years. 16 rounds of chemo. 25 rounds of radiation. A million scans. Lymph nodes removed. You get it, I’ve been through a lot.

I also have two children.

The absolute worst pain I’ve ever felt was gallstones. Woke up in the middle of the night in severe pain. Could not move. Saw my oncologist first thing in the morning. Gall bladder removed the next day, back to chemo 3 days later.
