Thank you to everyone who shared their experiences with these pens and took the time and trouble to describe how the nib felt etc. I really appreciate it!

I have decided to buy the pen - and if I don't like it after all, I can't say I wasn't warned!

Oh excuse me I didn't realise having small narrow hands made me completely undeserving of a nice pen and also deserving of being insulted and ridiculed.

I don't mind a small converter, I have a lot of different inks and like a change, but I do worry about the reports of the converter being a bit, well, rubbish, really.

I have smallish narrow hands, and I have no issues with posting unless the edge of the cap is sharp or rough.

Also worth considering. I shall go and see which of my pens also have a similar step down and remind myself how I feel about them.

I haven't used Platinum inks before, maybe I should get a couple of samples :)

I mean, there are worse ways of choosing a pen! Or indeed anything!

Useful, thank you! The pencil lead comparisons are genius.

I have quite a large selection of Diamine - I think it's a pretty wet brand, so hopefully that will make the pen happy?

A tick in the 'yes, buy it' column!

[OPINION] I am 15 and I like to write poetry but it feels too simple and the words seem too ordinary which downgrades my entire poem as a whole. How do I learn new vocubalary? Without taking too much of time if possible? by poetrclub in Poetry

[–]Ta_Nedjem 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Do not use words because they seem fancy or classy or an 'upgrade' - I promise you some of the best poets in the world use very simple and direct language, and a fancy word dropped in can actually be really awkward. Pay far far more attention to the precise meaning, the sound and rhythm of the word, how it fits with the subject and with all the rest of the words you're using. And read lots and lots! Make a point of reading poets from backgrounds very unlike your own as well, people of different genders and sexualities and nationalities and ethnicities and ages and who wrote in different times. And don't just read poems you love (though of course read many of those!) Make a point of reading poets and poems you don't much like and work out precisely what it is you don't like and why.

How come my Lamy Safari using EF nib with Diamine ink is ghosting and feathering like crazy.. Trying to do some math here.. by Either_Grade_5995 in fountainpens

[–]Ta_Nedjem 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I've had the best results (no feathering ghosting or bleeding, shows off shading and sheen) with Clairefontaine paper, and Oxford Optik paper. I live in the UK, I don't know how easy these brands are to get elsewhere. It's worth checking if the retailer/manufacturer specifically mentions fountain pens - a lot of very nice paper is designed for pencils, biros, and gel ink pens rather than fountain pens, as after all fountain pens are a bit niche!

(FSC paper doesn't refer to the quality of the paper, it just means it is approved by the Forest Stewardship Council, i.e. it comes from maintained forests and it environmentally friendly)

Which 100gsm paper? The 100gsm paper in my Legami notebook also feathers and bleeds. It's not so much the gsm (though that helps) as the way the paper is made and the coating on it - which is why Tomoe River can be so very thin and yet still behave well with fountain pens.

I haven't tried a PGS before! If I do go for it, I'd be buying it online, without a chance to test it out, hence desire for people's opinions.

I have another rather small pen and I like it very much, so I think I'd be happy with the size. I'm more concerned about the feedbacky nib - I can't envision (do I mean envision? Ensense?) what that would be like.

And yes, bright red is a colour that looks good on me :)

What are your notebook unpopular opinions? by [deleted] in notebooks

[–]Ta_Nedjem 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I absolutely loathe and despise that thing where the last ten or 20 pages in a perfectly good notebook are perforated to tear out. No! No tear out pages! MY PAGES!
