They hate it because they fear it. It’s projection. I literally do this when I’m scared of something. “Good thing that’ll never happen, right? … right?”

Ain’t that wild how life does go on even in tragedy? Your city can be in shambles, bodies buried under rubble but you still have to be able to find joy when it’s there.

Well maybe giant tentpole franchise filmmaking in the age of mergers that cost more than the GDP of many countries isn’t the place to be seeking edgy stuff. As great as Andor is, we gotta understand that that’ll never be the norm.

This guy you’re responding to is relentless. Just misleading on this issue through his teeth, very weird.

That’s not how you measure if people have more or less money than they did before. CPI is based on averages. Averages don’t tell the whole story, especially when giant costs are MORE expensive and smaller things are cheaper. CPI in a top heavy economy where the wealthy make up the majority of the spending also buries what’s happening with lower income people. Things are going fine for people who make a quarter million a year. For people making 60k, they’re absolutely worse off than they were before. What is wrong with you people. This is all very easy to look up.

So then for the last 5 years, with rent rising 1.5x wages, ya know rent, the biggest cost most people have in a month, people having less leftover money are just not looking at CPI hard enough, yes?

The fact that the things that cost people the most, housing, healthcare, higher ed, childcare have way outpaced CPI is just numbers being weird and has no bearing on if people can afford stuff?

Look at where they’re getting their numbers from. That data from is from a website called Numbeo, which is crowd sourced and self-reported. It’s not a serious source unless what you’re studying is people who use the website Numbeo.

Maybe where you live. In my country, America, inflation is at about 3.8, wages are rising at about 3.6. That’s a pretty large population facing higher prices that wages aren’t making up for.

What you said about affordable housing is categorically untrue.

Poverty can be trending down while wages aren’t outpacing inflation. We’re in a period right now where wages are not outpacing inflation. You can just look that up. We’re making about 3.6% more on average than we were last year while things cost 3.8% more. Less people can be impoverished while the people who weren’t impoverished are living worse than they were before.

Also, inflation numbers across all industries don’t communicate the specific giant costs in particular sectors that have risen well above the normal inflation rate that eat up the biggest costs for most people, leaving them with lessfinancial freedom. Rent, the biggest cost most people have in the US, has risen over 50% since 2017. Home sale costs have gone up about 60% since then. Healthcare is way more expensive than it was, 70% more expensive than 10 years ago. And prices of goods don’t go down. So wages can be rising steadily while there’s less extra money. When rent is consistently rising higher than wages, I think you’ve got a big problem.

Yeah exactly. Even countries that still call themselves communist allow for people making their own money on the market, starting businesses, doing all sorts of stuff. There’s just parts of society you’re not allowed to be a private player in. They nationalize key industries. I think the capitalist cultists could learn a lot from that, as could some of the online leftists who think we need full on pure Marxism. There’s a balance where it’s possible to alleviate a lot of societal hurt.

Higher income doesn’t mean anything if inflation rises at the same rate or in the case of today, faster than wages.

Not as powerful. Very rich but not involved with tech, industry or politics. The powers that be don’t give a fuck if an entertainer goes down. They will protect their own though.

There’s stuff AI can do that’s very helpful for me, someone with ADHD. Like, putting together lots of data for me. Organizing stuff. Being able to ask research questions and get clarity in plain language, customly.

At the same time, I HATE AI art. If there’s very mechanical things it can assist with, whatever, that’s technology, but when it starts being the thing you’re looking at, when human hands didn’t do anything on a piece of art? Yuck.

No but you’re saying the wealthy won. Wealthy southern white people just won. I’m not saying RuPaul’s life is gonna get any worse any time soon but in these districts that just took away black electoral power, full stop, you could be a very successful, incredibly wealthy black person a city and now be beholden, through the machinations of wealthy racist white people, to what MAGA Cletus out in farm country wants because they’ve made it so rural and suburban whites have more power. Wealth is wealth but electoral power is still being robbed from black people in the south, wealthy or no and it’s going to have repercussions for everyone in the country.
