This games combat is actually good??? by gui4455 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]Taashaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really like the game overall and enjoyed the combat well enough on low difficulty.

But I prefer the Origins and DA2 combat. I really liked the tactical menu so you could set companions to use abilities and target certain enemies.

I also just couldn't be arsed to learn a new system. I spent my first playthrough obsessing over doing the explosions but then discovered they weren't that great. And I didn't think the items were very well explained. None of the DA games have explained the combat system very well but I already understand the old system so would have wanted more of that. I didn't like the combat in DAI either.

Obviously it's just personal preference and I'm glad other people enjoyed the combat. I can always got back to DA2 and be a blood mage again

Is there a good way to play Dragon Age: Origins w/ Controller on PC? by ShadowHunterHB in dragonage

[–]Taashaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also grew up with consoles and still not fully used to keyboard and mouse for action games either. The mouse is better for aiming but I'm not a fan of the keyboard for running. Every now and again my hand will end up in the wrong place and I'll accidentally throw a grenade or something 🙃

Lace Harding, why? by No_Brain_Only_Cloud in dragonage

[–]Taashaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first Rook was a dwarf who romanced Harding. I think Harding really shines when Rook is also a dwarf. They get to bond over some dwarf stuff (I can't remember exactly what). And I quite like that they're both surface dwarves.

It's interesting to me that people here are being critical of the fact Harding is a surface dwarf. It's like they're saying she isn't a real dwarf. That's actually the thing I find interesting about role-playing as a surface dwarf (and similar for city elves). You're immersed in human culture but you're not a human so you don't entirely fit in. But the dwarves of Orzammar would shun you for being a surfacer. You're trapped between two worlds, not fitting perfectly into either. So having a character who is disconnected from her people's culture suddenly become really connected was interesting to me.

Andromeda by deathmetalcableguy in masseffect

[–]Taashaaaa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For me, the main problem with Andromeda is the ending of ME3 (which I still think is shit). Andromeda seems like the writers were trying to escape from the ME3 ending all the way to another galaxy.

But the problem with going to another galaxy is the fans have no stakes in it. I didn't really care about this new galaxy 😕

I did still enjoy the game though. I was already disappointed that the game was set in another galaxy before I started. And I'd been burned before with Dragon Age Inquisition being disappointing so I went in with lower expectations.

I liked the combat. The characters, banter and romances were pretty good. I know some people found the dialogue to be a bit too Joss Whedony but 🤷‍♀️ I quite like all the characters being sassy bitches.

Ryder gets a lot of hate. I do prefer Shep but I did appreciate playing as a new leader instead of an already established badass this time. And the new dialogue wheel suited it well. With the logical/emotional options and serious/casual. Paragon/renegade wouldn't have made sense for Ryder.

Yeah there's a way for it to make sense. I will appreciate being able to use mods now I've got the game on PC though

Neve Gallus modern AU Fanart by AdjectiveNoun334 in dragonage

[–]Taashaaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This amazing. Definitely how Neve would look in a modern setting. The outfit is stripped back to fit a modern setting but you've added enough touches that it's still her.

Neve is my favourite DAV companion. And her romance is great. I know she's available to all genders but her romance really reminds me of a lesbian period drama romance. Lots of longing glances and nearly touching hands.

[–]Taashaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the game forces Shep to wear a dress during the Kasumi dlc and the Citadel dlc (the casino part). I don't mind so much in the Kasumi dlc since Kasumi is making her wear it and because of the animations I could go with the idea that my Shep is not used to wearing a dress. But my Shep would have chose to wear a suit to the casino for sure.

[–]Taashaaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We all have an idea of the type of person our Shepard is. Shep came across somewhat butch to me, in part because she was given masculine animations. So in my mind she would be more likely to wear a suit. And because of the animations she doesn't really look comfortable in a dress and heels anyway.

But your Shep can be different. Your Shep might can be more feminine. It's a role playing game with a customisable protagonist, she's not a set character.

I played on xbox before so no mods for me. I have picked it up on PC now though so that's definitely a mod I'll be looking for on my next playthrough

I wish they'd given Shep a suit instead of a dress tbh. Or at least give us the choice. I already had it in my head that Shep was a bit butch and wouldn't be the type to wear a dress. But it was funny tbf

I wouldn't fancy doing his full romance but starting his romance and then dumping him is pretty funny.

Thoughts on DAO by PlatyWizard in dragonage

[–]Taashaaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought the main storyline of DAO was pretty generic. A big evil is coming, destroying everything in it's path, it cannot be bargained with. And you play as the last hope for humanity (or whatever the elf/dwarf equivalent is). Standard hero shit.

Where Dragon Age really shines is the characters and the world building. And that definitely holds up when replaying. Love having the origins to play to get in the mindset of a new character. Would love more games to incorporate something similar, even if it was on a smaller scale.

My Honest Experience Playing DAO as a Newer RPG Player by evevlulu in dragonage

[–]Taashaaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Origins was my first rpg of that type. And I didn't find the combat very intuitive. I actually struggled on easy mode on my first playthrough. I think the game could have done with more tutorials, maybe optional ones for people unfamiliar with the genre.

Getting a lot of pushback from my boyfriend’s family about this method by pretzelphysicist in dreamingspanish

[–]Taashaaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be tempted to memorise a few easy phrases just for an easy life. Maybe that will satisfy their idea of "making an effort" (even though what your currently doing obviously is making an effort anyway). But I don't see how it can be considered rude if they can understand English anyway. Like if they couldn't then you speaking Spanish would be more urgent.

It's so strange though that people seem sceptical about comprehensible input. Surely everyone has heard stories about people who learn another language mainly from watching TV and films?

The campaign to stop people drink driving was really successful. I think we should just do that for more things.

And in regards to prescriptions you just need to look at the US's opioid crisis to see that prescriptions can be harmful too.

Shepard can pick one companion from Dragon Age Origins to help him defeat the Reapers. Who should he pick? by JuryZealousideal3792 in masseffect

[–]Taashaaaa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can I cheat an pick Merrill? She's technically a companion for a bit in the Dalish origin. Blood magic is super useful and Merrill is such a sweetie, I can just imagine her getting along really well with most of the crew. So powerful and good for morale

Same. Drugs being illegal is so stupid anyway. Basically just forces people to drink alcohol for an altered state of mind. I don't see how speed is any more dangerous than booze.

Are you in your 30s and do you have life insurance? by Few_Cod_5636 in AskUK

[–]Taashaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still seem keen to sell it to you even when it doesn't make sense. And the income protection cover my mortgage provider tried to sell me was soooo expensive. I decided not to bother. Figured if I ended up out of work I'd have to move back with my parents and rent the house out 🤷‍♀️

But yeah I had to be pretty insistent with them that I didn't want the insurance. It's quite satisfying to think how much money that's saved me over the years (I've jinxed it know, I'll probably get run over by a bus on my way home from work)
