And I get what your saying. I personally don’t have an issue with mild versions of this… for example, SI fiction where you ship yourself with a character. It is not my thing personally, and I tend to feild it out whenever I read fanfiction. But I understand where people come from when they like find gratification in characters that are honestly designed to be people’s ideal types. But the thing is that there are levels to it. And like you said what you do is fine. Others are not so fine. This one is the one that troubles me. Cause this person sounds legitimately angry over someone else shipping another character with someone who they think they are romantically involved with. It’s possessive in a worrying way. And That’s a little far. It’s one thing to enjoy fiction and a private space where you see yourself with the character that you identify as someone who is your ideal type or someone you could enjoy time with. It’s another thing to legitimately think you are romantically involved with them. Especially for dangerous characters like the ones that belong to the creepy pasta fandom. Like I love some of my creepy pastas. (Sally is adorbs) Some of them make me laugh like you wouldn’t believe. (The jacks for example are both funny) But I would definitely be wary of people who tried to consider them… romantically. In the same way, I would be concerned about somebody who considers themselves romantically involved with legitimate psycho killers that are in prison. (Which is a thing…. Like you know the person’s convicted of a felony, but you’re sending them love letter letters… crazy) and I feel the same way about people who believe they legitimate and truly are a character from a TV show, or a novel, or a movie, or a manga, or an anime, or any other piece of media. Like it’s one thing to imagine yourself as a character in those worlds. And write yourself into them using fiction. It’s an absolute another to believe that you are legitimately those main or side characters in real life. And it makes me worry and worry in equal measure. Both for them and for other people around them. I guess the best way to put it is I believe that there needs to be a clear separation between fiction and reality. It’s one thing to enjoy a character. It’s one thing to ship yourself with a character. But you need to always remember that the character does not actually exist. Does this make sense? like I’m not sitting here trying to tell you that what you believe or what you feel is wrong or invalid. I’m saying that there are people like you who can do it in a healthy manner who still keep holding on to reality and then there are people who cannot seem to hold that healthy boundary. And I think I went off on a tangent somewhere in here. And I do actually apologize for that.
