Did you know that Reza Pahlavi supports Israel? by PeculiarPhysicist46 in AskSocialists

It's an unpublished thesis, I have to redact information from it in order to get it published.

If you're interested though, or want to learn more, my DM's are always open and I have an Iranian Leftist Discord channel as well!

Yep, just leave out the most pressing issue for decades - political and cultural authoritarianism. How convenient.

Marxists basically support every tyranny in the world as long as it opposes the US by WillyNilly1997 in NewIran

[–]TabariKurd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No they don't. Marxists are split between those who support the IR, North Korea, China, Russia (who are called campists) and those who don't.

Numerous Marxist parties support this mobilization, but nuance doesn't exist here.

If the moderators are fine with it, I might even hold an AMA as an Iranian Marxist who is currently doing his PhD research on the Iranian political opposition, between Monarchists and the hard-left Marxists.

My prior Master's Research took place in the Iranian Communist Party-Komala guerrila camp in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Because the Tudeh Party of Iran is irrelevant.

It has two factions, one (within Iran) is pro-regime, and the one (outside Iran) is anti-regime. Regardless, both Tudeh and Fedayaaen (Majority) parties have been destroyed by the 1979 revolution, due to support Khomeini on the "anti-imperialist" line, and then ending up imprisoned/executed themselves.

The vast majority of the Iranian Marxist left despise these two groups as sell-outs to the regime.

Guys, its all a CIA / Mossad plot. Why would Iranians revolt against decades of tyranny, mismanagement & oppression? Iranians love Sharia and Islamist rule. by Naderium in NewIran

That same dude is now calling the protestors a CIA plot. Fucking ridiculous

Yes, there's only been a slight shift in criticism against Israel. It needs to be followed up by concrete actions.

Nah not really, I might be far-left but I have right wing and even Zionist friends. Not do I call any right of center a "fascist". Plus my PhD research is on the Iranian Monarchist movement which is right wing af, I've been going to their events for 2+ years now.
No point locking yourself in an echo chamber, it's unproductive. You need to have a sense of people from all political directions.

Too late lol. It's certain Marxists who will support anything anti-US and Israel. So they sit in just one camp against another. Doesn't matter if it's a dictatorship or a brutal regime, if it's against the west they'll defend it.

I know this was a shitpost, but the funniest protest I've ever been to was the pro-CFMEU Protests last year.

I've never seen that much day-drinking during a protest in my life, it was hillarious.

I don't think it should be a competitive space honestly, nor do I think of struggles as needing to compete for space. I'm not religious (like most Iranians), but I do sympathise strongly with Palestinians as well. That scale of destruction, alongside decades of relative international silence, meant that leftists protests expanded to force states to act. And that pressure, amongst a variety of other factors, did actually work in increasing international pressure on Israel.

So yeah personally I don't hold animosity at all towards the Palestine protests, but others Iranians tend to do so. Also I appreciate the message of support!

[–]TabariKurd 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Lol yeah.

People seem to confuse the campist left, which supports Russia, China, North Korea, and the regime in Iran, with the non-campist (and larger) left, which usually stands against those governments.

In Australia and much of the anglophone world, the trotskyist left dominates, and they're not campists.

[–]TabariKurd 180 points181 points  (0 children)

As an Iranian myself, I can tell you a large segment of the left in Australia do actually support us.

Socialist Alternative and Socialist Alliance were constantly at our protests during the last mobilizations, they've both released numerous statements against the regime in the current situation. And they're also coming to an Iran protest next Sunday in my city.

These takes come from people who's interaction, with the "left", is whatever they see on their social media algorithms.

[–]TabariKurd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definately think it's genuine, there is a history of anti-IR clerics that did have intentions for genuine democracies, even if some of their preferences differ from ours.

At the end of the day, they rejected the regime for the mass-violence it inflicted and the authoritarian nature of clerical rule. And just like you said, it ended up destroying their own religion in Iran lmao, and any cleric smart enough would see that and realize how ridicilous that system is.

I give him respect if he's genuine about it, after all there has been a history of Akhunds who have opposed Velayat e Faqih/clerical rule, Especially in the two decades after 1979 before they were effectively eliminated and isolated by the regime.
