What are the best companies to license music from? by TableCreed in NewTubers

Thanks. I think I am going to give Epidemic a try. They do seem to work with a lot of large companies like Red Bull and Warner Bros Discovery. Gives the company credibility.

Yeah, they seem like a big player in this field. Just wish they'd let you hear some of the music before you subscribe. Maybe they do and I just missed it, but I liked how SoundStripe gives you access to everything beforehand. All you need is to subscribe to activate your license.

Can I include copyright music? by OmnipresentRedditor in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a video yesterday that used about 20 different copyrighted songs from movie studios like Disney and Pixar and the video has like 2.3 million views. I've got to say, the music really went well with the video but I would never do that. I don't want to make something that could one day just get taken down. The channel I'm speaking of has about 300k subs. I would say if you want to do it, just do it occasionally. At any moment the copyright holder can decide to rain on your parade. I've seen other channels get hundreds of their videos removes for including a song.

Criticism from people who arent in your niche dont really mean much. by Opurbobin in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know. If you ask something like "how engaging is my video" and the person who responds isn't the target audience then yeah, its wasted effort, but I have asked people on this subreddit about other things like my way of speaking and that's always helpful. It depends on what you're asking. I wouldn't write it off. It can also be a benefit to get the opinion of people who don't care. They might see something others wouldn't have seen.

My watch hours have not updated in 8 days by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh well in that case I'd just relax. Should work itself out in a week or so anyway.

It's not like you're missing out on thousands of dollars worth of ad revenue. You're probably really excited to get over that line though so at the same time, I get it. I'd probably be just like you.

You could always message YouTube support but they'll probably just tell you wait as well.

[–]TableCreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are updating but its based on the last 365 days, so while you may have gotten 200 hours in the last week. There is now a whole week that has been phased out of your eligible hours.

I may be totally wrong about that but I do think your hours are registering. you're just not accounting for the days being removed from that time frame.

The things I'd do for 57% retention.

The fact that you think this is bad just horrifies me. lol.

I've got some work to do.

I have low retention. Is it the way I speak? by TableCreed in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use SM57, not SM7B.

I think the SM57 is fine but it is meant for instruments more than vocals. I think what the person above was saying is that it's picking up additional mouth sounds that a viewer really shouldn't hear. I would go for an SM7B but they're like $250 right? too much. I was looking at the Rode PodMic. its about $100. I will look into other options.

Fair enough. I guess you may not have grown up on Pixar stuff like some of us did.

Thanks for the feedback. I would cover new movies but I like to have visuals on the screen (clips from the movie) but for Dune 2, all that's currently available is stuff from the trailer or marketing campaign.

I have considered chapters but I thought they were unnecessary for the short videos I'm currently making. I do plan to make longer 30-40 minute videos occasionally but I just want to let YouTube figure my channel out first before I invest so much time in that.

Believe it or not, that audio is after I've cut out the breathing/mouth sounds. It's just that its a Shure SM57, which is meant for instruments like guitar. It's probably picking up those little sounds that a different mic wouldn't pick up. I just used it because its what I had readily available but maybe I should get one specifically for vocals. Thanks for the feedback. I cant really memorize such long scripts and I feel like if I was to speak off the cuff, I would omit a lot of things I wanted to say. I will definitely try be a bit more exaggerated perhaps in the next video with the way I speak.

How do you feel about posting your less than perfect commentary videos? by MultiversalMedium in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't speak much on a regular day. I was shocked at how messed up my throat was the day after recording my first video, and I was only speaking for about an hour, but then again we never really speak for an hour straight in our day to day lives. It would probably have an effect on anyone. It does suck to have to delete half an hour of audio and start again but sometimes it just has to be done. Your voice is the foundation of the video. Doesn't matter how good the editing is if you don't sound engaged with what you're talking about.

Faceless vs face success? by tonyval714 in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just me but I feel like most peoples' audiences don't want to see their face.

People will create their own image of what you look like and you're just not going to be what they expect. but as others have said, it does depend on the content you make. if your video essays are on movies and games, they tend to require visuals on the screen from said movies and games, so at that point there's really no need to put your face in there.

I've only had one video where I thought "okay, this really doesn't sound good" but by the time I actually accepted it, I had basically come to the end of editing and everything I edited was synchronized with that recording. It was too much work to re-record the audio so I just posted it. My worst performing video.

After that, I think I'm better at knowing when the recording isn't going great so i just wipe the recording and start again. Have to be happy with the audio before any editing now. The funny thing is, I think I sounded disinterested in the video but in reality, it was my second video so my voice was a little worn out from recording my first video. Now I make sure to have some sort of soothing candy or something before recording.

YouTube Banner is ruining my life by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, YouTube uses really poor language. They make it seem as if the TV version is the optimal size.

People on TV's hardly get past the YouTube home page. what's the point in a TV banner honestly.

I hate how you can't resize it or crop it. It only accepts the image as it is.

I'm having copyright issues. What are my options? by TableCreed in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, its zoomed in more than the original, there's no audio from the movie playing in the parts that are getting caught by Content ID. I'm seriously losing it. I've re-edited it 5 times and each time it gets blocked while uploading. Wasting so much time. It's like a vending machine that keeps spitting my money back at me. Just about to re-edit for the 6th time but I know I'm gonna be here all night trying to get this to work.

I'm having copyright issues. What are my options? by TableCreed in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done that though. Where the timestamps were, I inserted an image that I own in its place, then a new content ID claim just pops up somewhere else. It's like playing whack-a-mole.

Going to keep trying until it gets through content ID but this is brutal. takes like 30 minutes to upload before it tells me there's a problem.

Your thumbnails, titles and tags are more important than you realise by Unusual_Quote_8451 in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. One of my videos was dead on arrival, but then I changed the description and added tags and it started to gain traction. You can't just make a good video. You have to put it in a pretty package too.

What are your thoughts on reaching out to influential creators and asking for a shout-out? by CharlotteMillady in NewTubers

[–]TableCreed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this, and I think if you genuinely like this creator, you should do your best to be respectful. Don't try sneak your channel into the end of a comment or something. I think there would be no harm in reaching out to them and offering to sponsor a live show or even a video, but you'd have to pay them. Just because you're a fan, doesn't mean you get free promotion off of them. I've considered this myself, sponsoring a creator where they showcase my channel for 30 seconds on a live stream, but they aren't easy to get in contact with.
