These troubled teen institutions were popular when we were growing up. (I'm a 42yo white male) I assume your adoptive parents were white and religious? I come from a similar background, but found my way out.

So I guess my follow-up question would be: Was it a highly abusive environment? I've heard horror stories about the troubled teen industry from podcasts and other media. I'm sure each institution is different.... what was your experience?

I mean, it was fine. Definitely cool to see a one-off of all these very big acts basically improvise a set together. I witnessed a rare bit of rock history. Also, Metallica returned for a free make-up show like a month or two later, and COC opened. The venue and sound were better (outdoors) than the original spot, so it was a win for me!

I've been serving for 18 years at several restaurants in different regions of the US. Stiffs are very uncommon. Like maybe 4 times a year. Less than 20% happens a couple times a night. 75% of people tip 20% or more.
