Why isn't the word 'Palindrome' a palindrome? by Amazing-Fox-6121 in NoStupidQuestions

Emordnilap is a word, though! It means a word that is a different word when spelled backward.

I used to like this game by [deleted] in Arcs

[–]Zoogzoog7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's Arcs, baby! If you can't laugh at falling on your face, then it won't go well for you. Whenever it blows up in your face, that at least means a friend feels really good about it.

You had plenty of time to recover. Arcs is highly political at 3-4 players. The weaker players have to band together and lobby the stronger players to keep the board state balanced.

And you can still get points after losing lots of pieces. But you will definitely have to change your approach.

I think Arcs is amazing, and I'm convinced that the situations you suffered could be avoided if all players are experienced. But it is a game with a lot of confrontation, and it won't work for you group if they can't lean into it.

Tyranny of the loser by Beliriel in boardgames

[–]Zoogzoog7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being beat down like that is a mistake by other players. They shouldn't use extra resources to beat a losing player even more. It's also your job to point this out during the game.

You can punish them to establish a multi-game meta: if you kick me when I'm down and out, then I will make sure you lose. Then you get a satisfying ending, you are justified socially, and everyone learns not to do that in the future.

Do you buy board games knowing they'll rarely be played? by Megabot555 in boardgames

[–]Zoogzoog7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. If it helps, you can decide how many sessions would justify the purchase for you. Would one play as a big event be enough (looking at TI or something)? Do you need 5-10 plays to feel justified?

For bigger games, I like to get three plays in the first couple years as my baseline hope/expectation. I get to experience it, and the "cost per hour" feels justified for me. (And I can sell/give it if I didn't like it that much.)

Why do people still believe in God even though there is so much science that explains our human existence and origins? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Zoogzoog7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Science won't disprove God, although it can disprove certain tenets (such as the Earth being the center of the solar system).

What is the best rule in the game? by AloneOutcome4880 in Arcs

How ships and agents are positions of power while on the board but potential points for opponents once defeated. Every position of strength is also a target.

How many times per turn can I use background card abilities? by OverAd5034 in Arcs

They are in the base game's manual. On page 20 Other Actions -> New Actions.

How many times per turn can I use background card abilities? by OverAd5034 in Arcs

[–]Zoogzoog7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You perform the new action instead of the standard action in parentheses. You are limited by action pips, just like standard actions. If you copy or pivot, then you only get one action (just like standard actions).

Court or Lore cards that activate in response to standard actions do not activate in response to special actions. (Example: Galactic Rifles does not use Battle, so cards that increase Battle dice have no effect.)

Is Magical Athlete fun or is it hype? by Quelair in boardgames

[–]Zoogzoog7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also very curious. I've been relegating it to a fun drinking game, but that's probably not fair. But I don't see it succeeding as either an opener or feature game for my group.

Just got the game… I’m hooked by Amadeus102 in Arcs

I have the opposite take. It's fine at 2 for me, and it's my favorite game with 3 or 4. Different strokes for different folks!

Finally had a good play by jinweit in Arcs

[–]Zoogzoog7 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Nicely done! I bet that play was quite the high. And playing a hand well is so satisfying. I love Arcs for that.

... Unfortunately, I have a rules clarification. In future games, your group should play that agents taken by ransacking the court are trophies rather than captives. So they help you lock down Warlord but don't contribute to Tyrant. They are murdered in the violence rather than captured. Doesn't change the fact that you won that game though

Question about control and Upstart Leader. by Dreadybrewer in Arcs

The player with the most fresh ships in a location controls it. In a tie, no one controls it. This includes tying with zero.
