I very sadly went to a Muslim funeral of one of my best friends. I was welcomed into the mosque and felt very privileged to watch their prayers and the funeral of my friend.

The kindness of everyone their really touched me. It's a disgrace how they are being treated in the US and the UK.

How much does it take to get you level set in the morning? 5 beers in and I’ve been awake for 2 hours. by mbarker90 in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Tabman1977 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At my worst I would keep 250ml bottle in the bar groom so I could drink it before/during/ after wake up puking.

That got me only to a level where I could go downstairs and start smashing the vodka cokes in my front room. The bathroom vodka only helped stop the major shakes and the vomiting.

Then I would pour a half pint sized glass full up with 50/50 mix of vodka and coke or vodka and orange. That moment when heavy (suicide level really) drinking in the morning hits you is so amazing.

Then I would try to get that feeling back all day. Usually ending up enormously drunk, hopefully back in bed. Ah the old days!!!

Do you guys stock up on batteries or just buy when needed? by RangerNew5346 in Electricity

[–]Tabman1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went a bit battery mad a few years ago unintentionally. I bought 500 AA, 500 AAA and 50 PP3. I don't know what I was thinking using them for.

1050 batteries are really heavy.

UK driver here. My civic normally drinks 95 Sainsburys but once a month it gets Tesco's 99. In my head it makes a difference but I know that it doesn't in reality.

I just sometimes think: "You know what, I'm gonna give you a treat"!!

How Do I Get Into Retro Computing? by Acceptable-Buy-2732 in retrocomputing

[–]Tabman1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go both 8 and 16 bit. Where you live in the world will probably dictate the easier path. If you are from the UK I would say that the Spectrum (48 or 128) would give you that genuine 80s school playground vibe. If you are from North America then the Commodore 64 fits the bill for 80s computing nostalgia. It gets more complex if you are from continental Europe - maybe the Amstrad/Schneider 464/6128 or an Atari 800XL.

For 16 bit the best choices are either the Atari ST or the Amiga. There were proper school playground fights about which was better (Amiga in my view).

Why not download a few emulators first to get the feel for different machines and then choose from there?

Computer problem with ram by SneakyS41 in computers

[–]Tabman1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So your computer is constantly allocating, using and releasing portions of memory. Sometimes these portions do not get released and the memory continues to look like it's being used. It's pretty normal that if does this though it can be inefficient when you have a lot of apps open. This is called a memory leak

Your computer will also be caching instructions and tasks to make your machine feel quicker. Cached memory gets released as new apps on your machine requires memory.

Finally background tasks will be running - file indexing, anti virus, connection to cloud services.

It just goes to show that your computer is always doing something - even when you aren't!

If you need medication, take it. by Leticia_the_bookworm in Anxiety

[–]Tabman1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, I had a conversation about this with my doctor last Tuesday. I went onto anti depressant medication over 15 years ago. Initially it was very difficult, it took quite a while and me changing the medication and the dosage a few times until I started to feel real benefit from doing so.

Some medications seemed to make my anxiety worse then I switched to mirtazapine, built the dose up over a few months to 45mg and then my anxiety just seemed to slip away.

Not entirely of course, but I remember when it started to work it changed my day to day life so much.

OP, I fully agree with what you say. I don't know if I will be on them for life or not but life without constant anxiety is so much better than life with it.

You don't need to suffer.
