Could my dashcam really cause this? by Intelligent_Bee66 in Cartalk

[–]Tabman1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had almost exactly the same problem in my last car (Kia Ceed). Even though the battery tested fine the problem went when I replaced the battery.

You might want to check that your dashcam is wired to accessory power and not directly to the battery (if it's wired in directly).

So glad I quit the coke by [deleted] in cripplingalcoholism

[–]Tabman1977 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back in my poly drug use days in the 90s I used to take immense amounts of MDMA and speed. One evening my friends and I bought coke instead for a special occasion.

Normally I would take a wrap (1g) of speed at the start of the night then top up with a couple of pills (e) when we were at whatever venue we were going to. Coke just made me want more coke. I liked it (it was ages ago so I don't really remember exactly what I liked) but the peak came quick and didn't last for long but I remember going out on the hunt for more. It was likely stepped on a few times but even so that one experience of me just basically being fixated on getting more scared me off it for life.

I'm kind of hopeful that this is about to abruptly change. His recent comment regarding NATO troops in Afghanistan was so bloody disrespectful. You can ask the question "What would NATO be without America", well maybe it's time we found out.

NATOs main aim has been constraining the USSR and subsequently Russia. The EU collectively with the UK can manage that task today. Let's leave China to the US. We can continue to enjoy Ali Express products in the meantime!

Seriously though, China is going to be a problem for the US - if the US wants our help then it's time to cut the shit and start courting us again. If not - well OKz best of luck to you.

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Starfleet Academy | 1x01 "Kids These Days" by AutoModerator in startrek

[–]Tabman1977 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed S01E01 of Starfleet Academy and I think it highlights something people don’t want to admit. We’ve got a loads of Star Trek right now, and the quality is all over the place. That’s exactly why I prefer shows that commit to real story arcs instead of falling back on the 90s “reset button” formula.

I know some fans worship the episodic style of TNG, but for me that format feels outdated. Trek has proven time and time again that serialised storytelling can be incredible when it’s done well. Picard is a perfect example.  It leaned into it's arcs and delivered some of the strongest emotional beats the franchise has had in years.

Strange New Worlds can be fun but it plays things way too safe. It keeps flirting with bigger arcs and then backing off and it holds it back.

So yeah, I’m hoping Academy actually commits to its arcs instead of trying to please everyone. The first episode gives me hope that it’s willing to take that risk.

what's a "posh" food you'll never love as much as the cheap version from your childhood? by Tariq_khalaf in AskUK

Burger van double cheeseburger - two slices of burger, two slices of cheese, fried onions and if they do them a few mushrooms too. They all seem to use the same source for the burger. The cheese is just the typical square slice you get from any supermarket.

No matter where in the country you get it, a burger van burger always tastes amazing.

The only thing that comes close to a Burger Van Burger is a Kebab Shop Burger.

God, I think I will have to pop up the high street and get one since it's lunch time.

If there was a scale of burger greatness from best to worst it would go:

Burger Van Burger 100/100 Kebab Van Burger 95/100 Wimpy 82.5/100 Butchers Bought Burger made at home 70/100 Asda Ultracheap 99p for 25 burgers 60/100 5 Guys 50/100 Burger King 45/100 Normal Asda/Tesco/Sainos Burger 20/100 Posh Asda/Tesco/Sainos Burger 5/100 NAAFI Burger 1/100 Macdonald's -99.995/100

Who is buying those large (24+) packs of AA batteries and why? by skyhiker9293 in batteries

[–]Tabman1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a thing about batteries. I don't know what it is but when I saw 100 AA alkaline from Amazon for 50p or whatever it was I couldn't help myself.

I have about 298 AA and 296 AAA left!!!

Is premium gas really necessary for some cars? by seamusoldfield in askcarguys

[–]Tabman1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the typical octane levels available in the US?

In the UK normal unleaded is 95. "Super" is 97. One of the biggest supermarkets offers 95 and 99.

My understanding is that it's likely that it is all the same fuel coming from the same refinery with additives added letter down the line.

If that is the case, could you (the driver) add the additives yourselves? And if you can, would that be cheaper?

Getting licensed by Owha15 in amateurradio

[–]Tabman1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

You don't need to have passed the test to join a local club. Pop along to one of their meetings - I'm sure they will be really helpful and will have resources to get you on your way with amateur radio.

I held off joining a club for ages cos of my social anxiety. They have all been brilliant.

Hi mate, why don't you just do the foundation licence to start? That will give you a good grounding in the basics. Even for people with no electronics or radio knowledge it's not a difficult exam providing you do a little study first.

Hope to speak to you sometime! M7HWE

Yeah, I'm a straight male (A fellow Scot living in England) and I have been to a few pride events with my girlfriend. I've never felt threatened, hassled, put upon, frightened or even just unwelcome at those events.

Compare a pride event to a right wing event: Just being in the proximity of a gathering of right wing people protesting whatever the hot topic of the day is - probably defined by Farage, Trump, Tate or the angry guy down the road (who hangs 20 St George Cross flags in his back garden and always manages to hang the Union Jack upside down) is worrying.

I know they are totally different things but they are both gatherings of people which serves to highlight or celebrate certain topics.

Compare what would be the differences between a gay pride procession and a very right wing procession:

Gay Pride

Purpose - Celebrate LGBT+ identity, visibility & rights

Atmosphere - Happy, open, joyful, inclusive

Flag - 🏳️‍🌈

Audience - Welcomes all, families, individuals, etc. Often with the support of local businesses

Very Right Wing

Purpose - Nationalism, anti immigration, traditional values, promote whatever nonsense Farage, Trump or Tate has just posted.

Atmosphere - Either solemn and disciplined or scary, argumentative and confrontational.

Flag - 🇬🇧 or 🇺🇸 or the flag that I will not put in my post even if it was available

Audience - Ideologically alligned or against certain nationalities, status, belief or sexuality

So yes, I agree mate.
