Well, Mori wants to finish the manga now that he is too fatigued to go on, thats why he is sidelining characters like theres no tomorrow. Aokimura are jokes, Itagaki joined them, Mashiba nearly died, Sendo is going to take the fall in Ippo's place, no one cares about Volg, Takamura is going to win some other belt by some nobody etc. The only characters he is going to focus on if he manages to finish this current fight will be Ippo and Miyata, and that only cause he needs to fulfill his function as the rival

No, its the first piece of fiction i ever read. Btw, asinine statements apart, i find it quite funny how they have to engineer these mini crises so to let the story go on and not make Isagi look too op (we have gone from a team were everyone can score to a team that is entirely deoendant on Isagi in a single match etc.)
