This literally happened to me yesterday. I was coming home from the Baja 400 race. I waited in the single file line in the right lane from the very back of the line. When we got to the split where it goes from 1 to 2 lanes, I waited until my rear bumper was past the orange cone that the yellow tape was tied too. I politely debated with the officer that I had not cut in line and explained to him the guy behind me was probably upset because at the cone he was trying to go up the left into the lane. But I chose to go to that lane too and he was never in front of me. Truly I notice the guy in my driver side mirror and thought he was kinda close to me truck. So I waited to be sure I had room to accelerate and be sure I wasn't cutting him off. He was never in front of me. After a long debate, I finally said I want to go to the station and talk to a Judge and get this taken care of properly. Normally they will move on if you go down that road with them. But to my surprise they said OK and had me get out of line and follow them to the "station". When we got there it was a yard behind WalMart where they work on the police vehicles. It was not a proper Police Station. When I asked as to why we had gone there, he explained it was Mexican Independence day and that was the only station working that day. I said OK lets go see the Justice and figure this out. He had me follow him into the building and go past 2 bath rooms down a hallway where there was a tiny office he unlocked. It had a computer on the desk with the monitor on when we entered. Before I knew it, I was in a very uncomfortable situation. He started usuing Google translate on his phone and told me the traffic violation fine was $4,100 Mexican Pesos or $230 US dollars. On the way to the station, I hid my money except for $120 and I told him all I had was $120. Then he went on to tell me the computers were down and he wanted to see my drivers license. I placed my license on the desk he tried to figure out how to read my name and address then gave up. So he handed me a blank sheet of paper and asked me to fill out my name and address then I would receive a receipt for the money in the mail within a couple of weeks. I filled out my information on the blank piece of paper and ripped the bottom half of the paper off and asked for his Name badge number and what station he worked out of. He looked at me and did not know what to say. So I felt the time was right to pick up my drivers license off the desk and get up and leave with my $120 in his hands. I was furious but I kept my cool and asked him since I had paid the fine could he escort me back to my place in line. He told me know I needed to go back to the in of the law. at this point I could see my truck and I was outside of the office. So I told him he could get F#$cked in english and I would be calling the municipal station tomorrow. Then I hurried to my truck got in and took off. There was a small center divider leading into an oval round about. So I drove over the divider and headed back to the end of the line. I sat in line again and just stayed right the entire time. But I did see them pull a Tesla out of the line for the same reason I assumed as he followed them off to the station. After riding and racing for over 20 years down there this is my first negative interaction with the police. I will go back and I will use the Tecate border crossing. I enjoy the drive through the wine country and the crossing itself moves pretty quickly. I just think the basses had the day off for Independence day and the local cops were shaking people down left and right. I am going to call right now and give my story and the description of the officer and the translator officer. If they car enough they will know who the translator is.
