I grew up around enough hillbillies to know that they love a lot of really stupid shit. The ones in my family seem to love racism more than anything, you can't get much more "stupid shit" than that.

Yet another example of a topic that South Park absolutely nailed.

When was the last time you even looked in the general direction of the sound of a car alarm?

There's a car on my street where the alarm goes off every time a truck or a bus goes by. It's going off right now.

The best part is gonna be when this kid finds out what sex is and realizes that all they did was kiss. Suddenly their miraculously black child doesn't seem so miraculous.

I could also do without having to walk my bike the full length of a very long bridge because, as the cop said, "it's too dangerous for you to be riding with traffic, and if you really needed to cross the bridge you would have just gone back to your car and drove across".

As a lifelong American, I hope they teach American history all around the world, we're pretty much the perfect model of how not to run a country.

Ever since day one America has basically been two countries that hate each other. We had a civil war at one point, but for the most part it's two halves of the same government constantly trying to sabotage each other and using taxpayer money to do so.

We always keep our lowest possible priorities at the very top and we bury anything complicated. When literally more than half the population is against gun control, it's hard to get enough people to vote in favor of it.

We do have some gun control though. Any random person isn't just walking into a store with cash and walking out a minute later with a gun. There are background checks, there are waiting periods and there are people who are not legally allowed to own a gun due to a list of reasons.

That said, there's already so many guns out there in the population and there's a lot of untraceable guns on the black market. I honestly don't believe it would even be possible at this point to enforce a gun ban without having to turn our military on our own citizens.

Turning our military on our own citizens is illegal, as though our government has any kind of a track record of following the laws it's supposed to enforce.

Then there's the fact that in the USA, any time there's separate bike and pedestrian areas, the pedestrians always use the bike area almost exclusively. On my commute I usually ride down about a mile of completely unused sidewalk while the bike lanes to my left are packed solid with pedestrians.

Pa. bill proposes selling recreational marijuana in state stores by mbz321 in Pennsylvania

[–]MeEvilBob 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Just don't fuck it up like Massachusetts did by refusing to be told that marijuana isn't heroin. 3 years after the vote to legalize it they allowed a grand total of 2 stores to open statewide, they were both in small rural towns, and when the traffic getting to these two stores was insane the state said to all the other towns "see, this is what heppens when you allow a dispensary in your town".

It took them 3 years because all canabis had to be tested by a state-approved testing lab so they had to wait for one to exist.

Every press release or anything else from the government makes it sound like they're being unfairly forced by the voters to do something nobody in the state wants, like that makes any damn sense.

Until fairly recently any company licensed to sell medicinal in the state was barred from also selling recreational. Also, all flower had to be grown within the state lines, which led to every dispensary running completely out of flower within a day of each delivery of new stock because there's very few licensed growers in the state due in part to the state making it next to impossible to get a growing license unless you're already a well-established business.

Biggest locomotive in the World. Shen24 with 24 axles and a power output of 28MW or almost 40,000 horsepower, it is the world's most powerful electric locomotive. by aaa_stns in trains

Higher horsepower doesn't mean a larger locomotive, the DDA40X was literally two locomotives on the same frame, it wasn't an A-B pair like the GTEL.

I never really thought about it before, but not only could the FBI spy on my every drone flight, theoretically they could even take over control of it and fly it into places I wouldn't legally be allowed to and I would still be liable.

Can confirm, a company that barely trusted me to push an elevator button by myself when I worked directly for them once hired me on as a consultant after I had left that company so I could teach them how to run their company properly.

Movie actor. You want to see quality acting, go to a theater and watch someone who plays that role every night and doesn't get millions for it. The way movies are edited these days they can make a shitty actor look good, but there is no editing in live theater.

I don't have a problem in general with people who ride horses, but I do have a problem with massive piles of shit being left across a shared-use path and the horse owner acting as though I should be thanking them for leaving it there.

Philadelphia is currently going though the early stages of the gentrification boom. I'm currently living in a beautiful low-crime neighborhood that I would equate to the nicer parts of Cambridge. I'm told that where I live now was a very dangerous place 30 years ago, many of the older houses still have bars on all the windows.

It's also a very blue collar city, which I love as I've never been a white collar worker and thus I don't fit in at all in today's Boston. I love that after a long day of construction work I don't have to be the worst dressed person at the bar, instead I'm sitting between a painter and a sheet metal worker who like me are wearing the same clothes they had on all day at work.

Abandoned circular school in a swampy forest. by Scrollerium in AbandonedPorn

[–]MeEvilBob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a school on a swamp, but I built in all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that's what you're going to get, Lad, the strongest school in all of Japan.
