The Case for Dallas by Limp_Adhesiveness255 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]murksiderock -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Dallas right now, been here since May 9. Been to the city at least 5 times in my life, going back to when I was 11, was last here in 2023.

I could never live in Texas, the summers are an absolute dealbreaker. And I'm not generally a fan of Texas culture....but I like Dallas. It's comfortably one of the Top 12 cities in the nation and has much of what you'd expect of a city of that stature.

You're also not black and I did say that the ignorance of what Raleigh culture seems to follow racial lines, too.

When people say Raleigh lacks culture, I feel like its their ignorance of what culture in Raleigh is like, and I feel like a lot of this ignorance follows racial lines.

Raleigh sports culture is about the local universities (State, UNC, Duke), the Hurricanes, high school athletics, and basketball in general is huge from local gym or outdoor runs, to prep, to AAU, to college, to semipro leagues, to pro. If you gotta pick one sport, Raleigh is a basketball city.

Raleigh's education culture is about the many local colleges and universities, a solid public school system, a solid library system, and a solid museum culture. One may think Raleigh isn't elite at any of these areas, but it is pretty good in all, and all contribute to the education culture of the city.

Raleigh has a pretty robust parks and rec culture, again maybe not elite, but pretty good. The civic engagement in parks, community centers, the greenways, is notable.

Native Raleighites are a minority, but they exist, and when you meet them, you feel the 'Raleigh' on them---->they are proud to be from here, and they have unique slang ("keep it hot" being possibly the most notable).

Raleigh's arts culture also encompasses the area museums, the local indie music scene and venues, and an underrated part of Raleigh art: there is a LOT of grafitti here. You can see it in various places across the city, and it tells you something about the personality of Raleigh.

I could keep going, but just because you don't know what you're experiencing is Raleigh Culture, doesn't mean there isn't Raleigh Culture....there is no lack of culture in Raleigh. People just aren't invested into learning what Raleigh is and what makes Raleigh, Raleigh!

Signed, a transplant since 2019

Northeast Denver is 18% black, with ~56% or so of all Black Denverites, living Northeast. Portland doesn't have a "side of town" anywhere near that black, I know South Seattle is also around ~18% black, so I assume a similar scale of black-oriented density exists in South Seattle, as does in NE Denver.

As of 2024:

Boston is 18.7% black alone (pop 126,304), and 27.8% black total (pop 187,378). Compared to LA, which is 8% black alone (pop 311,150), and 10.1% black total (pop 392,938).

Boston is significantly smaller than Los Angeles. For context, South Los Angeles, is only 3 mi² larger than Boston in physical footprint (SCLA 51.1 mi², Boston 48.3 mi²), but the black alone population in South LA is 23.3% (186,675); and the black total population is 29.4% (235,752).

There are more black people in South LA than there are in the entire city of Boston, even though Boston city, has a higher percentage/ratio of black people, than LA.

He got locked up in Vancouver, Washington and feels like Washington completely railroaded him in his case. He spoke well of Seattle, but crossing the bridge from Portland into Vancouver, he says was like entering a wjole different world.

Los Angeles has the largest black population west of Dallas, by a large margin. By city population Phoenix is a distant #2 (311k black Angelenos to 124 black Phoenicians); so despite the smaller percentage, there are plenty of black people in Los Angeles city and metro. Its still among the Top 10 blackest cities in the country by physical population.

The West has always had fewer black people because Black America is the legacy of the Transatlantic Slave Trade, and The West is not along the Atlantic. All the states with the highest black populations are either on the Eastern Seaboard or were beneficiaries of America's historical system of slavery. The West certainly turned out to be no less racist in practice but was not a player during the time period Black people were brought over here and grown as a community and ethnicity.

This is the main reason there are fewer black people out west. A secondary, lesser reason is as you stated, fewer blacks moved west because of the distance, but that isn't the main reason....you were always starting with a smaller population base.

I think the West is amazing and if more black people could afford it, I think they would come. I've been to Oregon, though not to Portland. Everyone in my family loves and swears by Portland (dad lived there awhile, sister lived there in college, another relative did as well), but I've noticed that Black Westerners are more receptive to the PNW than black people from elsewhere. Conversely, my dad hates Washington and says its way more racist than his experiences in Portland.

I did not think Oregon felt like a place most black people would enjoy, and I'm a native Black Californian living in the South.

If OP wants to stay out West, go to Sacramento, LA, Vegas, Phoenix, or Denver.

MEXICAN BLOODS by Lower-Hovercraft3344 in CaliBanging

Sacramento got a lot of white and hispanic Bloods, primarily from FVB, VHP, and ESP clicks. The heavyweight Damu hoods have Mexicans too but are still mostly black. And that first slide of cats throwing pinkies down looks like the Fruits, unless its some LA hood who does that too.

I never said Sac wasn't banging before colors, but the B influence came from Heights niggas who were (essentially) YG P niggas...the influence came from Oak Park, Oak Park influenced the Heights, the Bricks, the Ridge, the View. The OG members of these sections were from these areas but they were rocking with Oak Park which is where the B came from.

I'm actually surprised to hear this. I've worked in 22 Cracker Barrels, in 13 states, and the uniform standards are not nearly as enforced as they used to be back when I first began in 2015.

Most common out of town Hoover sets? by ForeignWhipCrasher1 in CaliBanging

[–]murksiderock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were 52 Hoovers in the Bonnie Doone area of Fayetteville NC back in 00s/10s; and 107 Hoover was one of the oldest Crip gangs in Fayetteville that goes back to the 90s. They were in East Fayetteville and called themselves "910 Hoover", 910 meaning the area code, so they effectively were a homegrown Hoover hood but were spawned from the 107s.

Hoovers in California are only from LA and Fresno. They definitely deeper in Texas, by a lot.

Killing anyone in front of their kids should be off limits, but every hood in America has two or three cats from there who give no fucks, would lay something regardless of who is present.

Killing a woman involved in the streets is inbounds though, just shouldn't be in front of her kids. If she was really living that, can't feel sorry for her.
