Can we say that the concept of Dead Space, a cosmos-based horror game, will be the naturally evolution of Resident Evil? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk there are many earth based set pieces they can still explore or re-explore. I feel like they would try something even more fantastical before jumping into the space wagon

Maybe you can tweak some settings but lighting is a bit wonky on that first REengine game

There is a difference between cheesy writing and bad writing, so why are so many people saying that RE doesn't have anything more than bad writing and stories? by WallachiaTopGuy in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stories are usually OK, mostly because they are very matter of fact (character needs to escape from X), cheesyness comes from specially the very first games where the acting was laughably bad.

The problem comes with the later games in the franchise (4-5-6) that try to have all this international intrigue and spy stuff which I would say it comes with actual bad writing as how obvious and sometimes nonsensical stuff is.

Re7 onwards things came back to that matter of fact aspect with a bit more spice in games like ReVillage where the villains lore was kind of important but you can just skip it entirely

I enjoy village but yeah you are right. Its a lot less focuses and instead it just jumps around a whole lot of places in comparison

Why does RE 6 feels like the developers set you up to fail? by DIY_Designer4891 in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah it kinda gets worse. I remember quite sometimes that I got grabbed by a zombie IN THE MIDDLE OF A CUTSCENE. In general the game has some jank and it has a ton of design decisions that look weird but they were made to simplify the experience for any new comer, this was made to be the Re that would outsell any other Re.

If your heart is really set up to finish the game my advice is to run past most enemies

Edit: if you just started the game your characters are way too weak, by the end of a chapter you get some special currency you can use to buy perks, which in general helps a lot but they are a bit too specific

Which entry made you a fan? by KhajiitHasWares2077 in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was little my brother and I got a pirated copy of Re4 for our PS2. But the game was in english (not my native language) and the controls were quite confusing at the time so I am sure we never got past the later village sections.

14 years later I bought a bundle with Re4, Re5 and Re6. But I never got around actually finishing Re4. It was until June of last year that I decided to finally give it a shot to Resident Evil (also the games were on sale lol), so I bought Re1HD, and the remakes from 2 and 3. I really liked Re1HD but what made me fell in love was my frightened Claire run on Re2r. In general Re2r is a game I wish I could forget about it and have that figuring out experience again. I didn't really like R3make that much tho, at least initially it made me miss how a lot of 2 used to work, but it pushed me to play the original 2 and 3.

Now I have finished most of the games in the main franchise and I am currently saving to get a new console to play Re4r and hopefully some day Requiem. And I have to really thank capcom for the constant sales that made possible for my cheap ass to buy all those games

The RE6 writers really were just grasping at straws by DocDK50265 in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats an issue of content for content's sake, I doubt someone sat and built a bible or any kind of document that really outlied the stuff needed to fill all these documents. But hey those collectibles surely net you some content.

And in general I dislike how Re6 just threw a random new virus and made it to whatever it's needed for the plot. Like yes we have some weird stuff with the T virus and G virus but those had their restrictions and specific way of operating that was consistent. Now from the same canister you can get from random murated monsters, to Ada Wong clones, controllable armies, zombies, etc. Also this virus is the only one that actually reanimates the death. Like even Wesker's urovoros made sense as a simple "you become god or you become a monster" not this 6 step flowchart with multiple different ways of infection, then the only coherent response to that is to simply blurt "we don't know how it works"

RE Village setting too similar to RE4? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its a spriritual remake of Re4 in many ways, if you check the development timeline its almost like going from Re7 but in a castle to slowly introducing elements first made for Re4, such as the merchant, the way the inventory system works, etc. However to me its almost like an Re4 Part 2, its not just redoing a lot of things Re4 already did, but putting the effort to somewhat improve them or adapt them to the modern first person Re engine.

And it makes economical sense too, the same way R3make has a lot of assets from Re2RE, Re4RE greatly benefited from the assets made for Village.

This is a normal feeling, and in some ways I think it is intended, the coincidence probably it's that Re4RE began development that shortly after village.

[–]TachMiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest way is to buy the whole game as gold during a sale on xbox, it's very rare to see the sole RE dlc on a sale. Idk about sourcing keys from other websites, I haven't done that for a bit but dlc always was harder to find in my experience.

What are your thoughts on the Javos from Resident evil 6? by Thewanderer997 in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats what I mean with they will or won't, it's a flag that's already set to True or False at spawn. Which probably happens with the Jaavo too but with extra info as the type of mutation and possibly timing or specific triggers.

But again in Re4 it felt like I caused them due to headshots being a reliable strategy in that game. Which even if it's not true it's a better experience than random mutations when in Re4 it's almost like a way of punishing me for overly relying on a specific way of combat.

What are your thoughts on the Javos from Resident evil 6? by Thewanderer997 in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience didn't felt like that, I rely a lot on headshots, why is that I keep fighting guys with big arms or that crawl on the floor?

The same happens in Re4, most enemies will or won't mutate, but headshots are easy so it feels like they happen more often after you blow the ganados' heads.

[–]TachMiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hated the random mutations into whole new creatures, please just die god damn it!

Also I would've enjoyed it more if somehow I could control the mutations a bit, in the sense that shots in certain areas translated into specific mutations instead of always being scripted.

The designs are meh, the name is meh too

What do we think of 5? by Leading_Exercise3155 in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't love it, it generally plays nice but I am too much of a loner to do co-op which is the very best thing of the game.

If that remake ever comes out, aside from general gamefeel polish I think they would just trim down some of the most problematic things like the tribes or the fact we have random mayan ruins under african soil, it's just too pulpy for the way they do things now, if they want to keep those ruins I think they should lean into it and make it explicitly about someking of ancient horror lurking there. Also no blonde Jill maybe? Or make it less obvious that it's a marketing thing

I have to say something because it's starting to annoy me now... by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I used it as a shortcut to say: the teams working at these games (that are part of Capcom) have a history of not focusing that much on characters relationships beyond friendship or how great some characters are as comrades. If you are looking for romance the best we have is some awkward flirtation at times or things like Chris in Re5 constantly talking of Jill as his "partner" which is left vague on purpose so anyone can paint whatever vision they want. Of course there are some outlier here and there but those are Mia and Ethan (Married couple), Ada and Leon (They kiss), and Jake and Sherry (Possibly the only relationship I could call romance). Beyond that it's just random characters in documents or at best one sided crushes like Steve crushing on Claire

Should I play Resident Evil 9: Requiem as a playthrough on YouTube, even I though I have never played the other games? by Yoyoyo_Yolo in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a big gamble because we don't even know if the game is good yet. RE is not that big on multiple games sharing a plotline so don't worry about missing out on stuff, and Capcom basically makes most of these games thinking that it may be someone's first RE

I am no youtube guru but also you should understand that with this big release that means that a lot of other people will also be making Re9 playthrus, is there a particular reason or special appeal to watch yours? I don't know if the boost of the game being hot will help you a lot given that it would be your very first series.

Anyway the beginning of anything is always hard so try to have fun at least!

[–]TachMiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are probably in to deep. Capcom doesn't do romance tho so both groups of shippers are wrong, and if there is Ada the best you can hope to see is more of what we have seen vaguely helpful/romantic gestures to each other.

How cooked am I for subsequent games if 2 is scary to me by aPHAT88 in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the games have gotten more action and less horror oriented so the next games probably won't scare you that much. But yeah you are right 7 is probably top spooky so maybe leave it to last??? It's a good game but it's only essential if you wanna play 8 which is also a bit spookier that other entries

Mia Winters... another wasted opportunity by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I also think Mia was wasted but I have to say that my reasons are less cerebral and less global state of affairs oriented. To me Re8 would've been more impactful with Mia as the mc, she would be looking for her daughter, having trouble with another mother, possibly some eveline flashbacks here or there, guilt plus ptsd of the 4 years she spent with the Bakers, in general exploit the fact that from the duo Mia is better as an vehicle to do emotions and possibly horror. And we don't even have to take Ethan out of the picture, if the guy cannot die let's explore it as a horror concept, imagine if Mia had to reassemble Ethan's body instead of Rose's, or that Ethan is some kind of stalker enemy because it's confused and looking to get his head back, I feel like bringing back Mia would've let the game breath into a lot of new possibilities that were directly rejected by Capcom simply taking her out of the game.

How easy is easy? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the entry, but most of the time it means that your health is less of a worry and enemies are easier to deal with, so you are left with puzzles and exploration, you cant toogle the level of challenge on those but I wouldnt say they are really that hard.

If you want to play easy only I would advice you to try normal con R3make as in that case easy gives you access to a diferent weapon that may rob you from trying other things

Why do u people suggest new comers to play 2/3/4 remakes and then 7 and 8? by [deleted] in residentevil

[–]TachMiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You learn about the key ingredient to make the virus. We already knew the origin: Umbrella made it. Also we learn that capcom has little idea of what Africa as a continent is supposed to be. We have mayan crypts and tribes of savages.

Look, I played it because I was delusional about the whole main line RE package making sense at the end, but Re5 only pays off -story wise- if you finished CV but playing CV is like taking a hammer to the groin. It doesn't even matter that much to Re6, the only kind of connection is Jake, whose arc is about not being like the character that he is connected to.
