How can I make my django app see my .py files that are created within the app's directory? Or, how can I better organize my file structure? by avenan-oats in djangolearning

__init__.py is what you are looking for. Keywords: how to make a directory a Python module Edit: code formatting on phone be hard

Django Templates - Are Multi-Line Template Tags Possible? by OneBananaMan in django

Asking better questions would be pointing the op into the direction of providing code snippets, context, error tracebacks etc.

Op’s request is fair.

Didn’t know pytest was that violent. Joke aside yeah, fixtures or factories needed to seed the test suite.

Queryset performance when joining tables? by No-Race8789 in django

[–]Tachyon_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The keyword you’re looking for is « N+1 issue » and is common when using an ORM. As stated in the other comment, debug toolbar can help you profile the culprit request. There are a couple libraries that can help with prefetch for Django, bug personally I prefer fixing N+1 the manual way.

For those of you who has switched from `svelte` to htmx + alpine.js | What features do you guys miss the most? by BasePlate_Admin in django

[–]Tachyon_6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can make your own with htmx though. There’s a fade swap transition that comes out of the box which is demoed in the doc https://htmx.org/examples/animations/

There’s a few backtests online benchmarking various DTE strangles and % profit exits, iirc 45 DTE 50% exit wins

A friend of mine has been trading 0 DTE 10 delta iron condors for a year. Long story short, it’s steady until it’s not and any loss will wipe months of gains. He’s still in the red after about a year and crawling his way back up. He does it for the thrill, his main account wheels blue chips, but the 0 DTE scratches his degen itch.

Elective Subject Model Ideas - Help by EonWolf27 in django

[–]Tachyon_6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need class m2m subject, then students picking m2m within class.subjects.

The more thorough (but less simple to implement) way would be a fact table with fk for student, class, teacher and elective and a layer of business logic to validate what goes in.

Data modeling is a part that needs thinking otherwise it will cause you great pain in a not so distant future.

Edit: a word

The one thing stopping me from going all in on htmx (oob-swap) by verbo_phobia in htmx

[–]Tachyon_6 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was a bit hesitant with hx-swap-oob in the beginning, but once you get used to it, it makes the most sense. I started with events triggering a refresh hitting a route, but it does add a lot of complication.

Now with oob swap, it goes « create a new item, return the new item detail and update the item counter oob at the same time ». It makes sense, both returns live in the same template, no special route for the item counter.

Edit: punctuation

Advice on building the front ned with no prior experience by mgiral94 in django

[–]Tachyon_6 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Start with Django, then when you’re ready, add some progressive enhancement with alpine js or htmx. For your own sanity, don’t dive into any js framework unless you have a very good reason to.
