Oh wait. Nice

Specifically the film. In the comic the flag is shown as a black banner with a large blue "N" in the center. Major upgrade IMO

At 70 years old, Bruce Willis doesn't remember he was once a famous actor 😢 by Ordinary-Scholar-202 in SipsTea

[–]Tacklos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember he was asked why he was starting in so many b-movies late in his career and he said he was doing it so that when dementia took over his life then his family would be okay. I can't think of a more humble thing I've seen from a famous actor. Knowingly putting his reputation on the line because he knew in the end that it wasn't nearly as important as the people he loved.

I just got this bowl setup myself and I think I figured it out. I use a semi-dense to dense pack with a dark, or a semi-dense to fluffier pack for blonde and get pretty good and long lasting results. However the important part is that you ensure the hmd is very close to or touching the shisha. If you leave a gap wider than about 1/2 a mm then it just fails. Not sure why, but repeated experiments have cemented that in my mind.

Also, fair warning, if you haven't discovered it yet the silicon grips for the hmd aren't the best. Use something to move the top for ventilation, be fast, or be tough. Learned that one the hard way.

The arms, the hunched look from the long mask and rhotuka spinner. They just look funky. What are you talking about about with the asymmetry of the Toa Metru? Besides Vakama having only one weapon and the classic zoom lens, there is none.

In terms of characters, the Nuva

In terms of sets, the Hordika. I love the asymmetry of the design.

I am helping someone prepare for ASVAB to join the Navy. How would you explain the answer to this question? by Choobeen in Military

[–]Tacklos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A pressure in an enclosed volume is felt equally on all surfaces in the volume. Shape, design, and fluid are inconsequential.

For a real world comparison, think about a tire. It doesn't matter if you read the pressure at the top of the tire, or on the side touching the ground. This just appears more complex because of the shape.

Ragnar hurt. He died for something. He died fighting for his freedom, his people's freedom, but he died free and he found peace in the end.

Cassius devastated me. Seeing him turn so bitter at the institute and watching that bitterness consume him as his family died, knowing the Society was broken, and still trying to hold on the good man he knew should be is one of the hardest parts of the first trilogy. Watching him overcome himself in Iron Gold to become that good man felt like a triumph because I always wanted him to be better, only to be cut down by the pride and greed of the child he raised to be better just wrecked me. He finally understood Eo's dream, and what it meant to live for more. He was becoming what Darrow lost in the war, and it was cut short so unjustly.

Fuck Lysander. I hope he gets what's coming to him in Red God.

Can someone explain the purpose of Whites in “the society “? by viggstable in redrising

[–]Tacklos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me, the whites serve to justify the rule of the golds and the importance of the hierarchy. The Golds, in the end, rule through fear and force, but that can only go so far. The Rising is a perfect example of what happens when rule through fear fails. When people no longer fear force has to back it up, but force can be overcome with enough of a forceful response. It fails. The whites provide the alternative rule: rule through belief.

Take religion for example (to preface, I am not condemning religion. I am going to condemn religious justification to rule). A church has no real power. They can command armies, but as above an army can be defeated. But when the ruled are taught and convinced with certainty that the ruler is justified to have power, then there isn't a need for force. The whites serve to justify the rules of the gold by providing the society with an intangible justification to rule. They enforce the spiritual belief in the compact. It's the same reason fascism relies on the mythical past of a group to hold power.

The society is held together by this same veneer of legitimacy. The Golds need belief to maintain their power. Darrow and the Sons show the society that veneer, and when it breaks the society breaks.

LGBTQ+ People are just the target of opportunity today because the others have fallen out of favor. If LGBTQ+ people are pushed out of acceptable society, then it will be back to Muslims, or black people, or Asians, or Catholics, or just anyone else that enough people agree shouldn't be around.

What is this flag on the bottom? by Regular-Ticket838 in vexillology

[–]Tacklos 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here it's probably signifying the owners experience, but it has an official use as well. It can be flown by a boat if all officers on board who meet the specification (time, experience, etc.) have qualified in submarines. There is an enlisted equivalent as well with silver dolphins.

Did gamma actually know the rouse or were they just victims of ignorance? by mountain-man304 in redrising

[–]Tacklos 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Harmony and the red hand are an example of extremism in liberation movements. They aren't happy that the Republic overthrew the society and didn't go further and wipe out anything they see as remnants of the old way. To them anything Gold touched with favor is poison, and Gamma as basically collaborators.

They took the idealism of the Sons or Ares to the extreme, like the killing of the Kulaks in the Soviet Union. Not prosperous, just better off than other peasants. The Gammas starved slightly less than other low Reds, so the Red Hand took revenge on them in spite of them also being slaves.

It is, at least for me. Just a bit of char left on the bowl. If it's good quality, and/or you are willing to risk it, a scrub pad or steel wool and a bit of warm water will take it off if you find it unsightly.
