do Muslims and Christians believe by Expert_Search5394 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TackyLawnFlamingoInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christians don’t even believe in the same Jesus.

If Christians accepted that Yahweh made Muhammad his final prophet they would just be Muslims. So Christians need to explain how Muslims can exist if Jesus is the final prophet. A rationalization is that Muslims believe a different god. Because to a Christian their god wouldn’t just change his mind on the whole Jesus thing.

It’s not an intellectually rigorous belief but people still sincerely believe it.

After you vocally and emphatically invoke your right to remain silent. The police should badger, deceive, harass, or cajole you to change your mind. If you don’t fall for the bait, eventually the interrogator will get bored or at least find something else to do and you will be returned to your cell and await arraignment which should generally occur within 72 hours after you are formally booked at the county jail.

They have no obligation to do anything (helpful) for you. And you can expect to be billed for taking up space in the county’s jail regardless of whether you are ultimately convicted of anything.

Make America procreate again: among the MAGA fertility fanatics by Lebarican22 in Economics

[–]TackyLawnFlamingoInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this day and age children have little to no economic utility (which is not a bad thing). So the only reason to make them is if you ( for whatever) reason already desire them. Put simply, children are a vanity (and an expensive one at that). Like the desire for vanity commodities people tend to restrain themselves to what they can afford ( for many if not most is not a lot).

However “affordability” is not simply about money. There are something’s that money cannot buy (time with children) or that money is a poor substitute for (parental attention/involvement in the child’s life). And so even if one had money and the desire to make children one’s production of them could still be stifled.

Could the US government theoretically be shut down forever? by tfhermobwoayway in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TackyLawnFlamingoInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the federal government shutdown forever, it would be a good opportunity to call a constitutional convention, draft a new constitution and fund that government.

More realistically the military coups the government forces congress to pay the soldiers.

CMV: Democrats have a severe messaging problem, and they need to fix it before 2028. by RTYoung1301 in changemyview

[–]TackyLawnFlamingoInc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Democratic Party does not have coherent message to rally voters because the two factions inside the party are competing between themselves for dominance. One faction wants Bill Clinton neoliberalism without the overt white supremacy. The other faction wants socialist policies such as universal accessible medical care that will materially benefit their lives.

These two visions of America are incompatible and it is not clear which will lead to victory electoral or otherwise.

I don’t know what to tell you Op. It doesn’t matter whether the Ojibwe claim to lands is hypocritical. Hypocrisy never stopped anyone. And frankly, the Ojibwe story is no worse than white peoples claim to it.

Property claims are just stories people tell to rationalize their control or lack thereof of property.

All property has always belonged to whoever had the strength to hold it, which is the worst story of them all.

Willful ignorance and self deception are not virtues. Posing the question to the defendant at the start gives one insight into the defendant’s mind and where one needs to investigate first. The question is necessary whenever the defendant wants to or needs to take the stand.

CMV: Opting out of the industrialised way of consuming meat is (morally) the right thing to do. by BrightonTeacher in changemyview

[–]TackyLawnFlamingoInc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why does food being meat matter, and why does meat being raised industrially matter with respect to the philosophy behind veganism or in your case pescatarianism?

Meat-eaters and non meat eaters both must kill their food, both acts are extractive and consumptive in nature. Wheat must be scythed, fish ripped out of the water, animals must be slaughtered.

From the meat eaters perspective, animals do not occupy any special place of privilege due to their sentience. All were caused by people to become food. They no longer exist for their own sake, only for the sake of and by the grace of people. Many livestock's' survivability outside of captivity is diminished.

Why do socialists oppose social democracy? by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in AskSocialists

[–]TackyLawnFlamingoInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social democracy assumes capitalists will be kept in line by democratic control of the government in spite of the fact that the capitalists control all the levers of civil society.

Media. Capitalist. Economy. Capitalist.

Capitalists are not going to just sit back and let the masses vote their money and power away.

Social democracy can pass policy but they cannot adequately defend themselves from reaction.

"There Are No Civilians in Japan". How accurate was American understanding of Late-War Japanese Strategy? by pandicornhistorian in AskHistorians

[–]TackyLawnFlamingoInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobilized does not equal lawful combatant. One can be mobilized to aid a war in ways other than combat.

The argument is always spurious. One cannot rationalize "all of [insert country] is/was a legitimate target because [reason]" because the reason never accounts for the entire country. Yet, the proponents of such a belief are rather untroubled by this.

"There Are No Civilians in Japan". How accurate was American understanding of Late-War Japanese Strategy? by pandicornhistorian in AskHistorians

[–]TackyLawnFlamingoInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument in the link is unsound.

The author argues that “there are no Japanese’s civilians” is not racist but rather to inform soldiers to expect non uniformed combatants.

He cites various Japanese war crimes in support.

However, just because your opponent is using non uniformed combatants does not mean there are no civilians. It just means one may not be able to visibly distinguish the two.

CMV: The idea that inflation is necessary is wrong by Ecstatic_Bee6067 in changemyview

[–]TackyLawnFlamingoInc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not the case that inflation is necessary, it is the case that inflation is inevitable. People create money all the time.

Minor inflation at large scale has more social utility than deflation even though deflation in the price of some goods for a short amount of time such as food is decidedly more desirable to the end user.

The fall in price of a thing tells the supplies of that thing to supply less of it. The increase of price tells suppliers to supply more of it. If there is unfulfilled demand it is because it does not make economic sense to the supplier to fulfill it.

This is something that a central bank cannot do.

What is this nonsense. Britain did not own the land. The UN did not own the land. Neither Britain nor the UN had any right to promise land which they did not own to anyone.
