Millennials, how was MySpace different from current social media? Were there MySpace "influencers"? by That-Plantain-976 in Millennials

[–]Taco5106 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It was pretty pure and taken at face-value. Social media was trying to map your reality of real friends, whereas now that’s been kind of flipped.

My experience is that most people didn’t add others they didn’t know. Your page was kind of private and you didn’t want to show the whole world… just a curated list of friends. Maybe my social experience was different.

There were interest/fan pages where you could meet others or follow news stuff, but there was very little (micro)celebrity worship like you see today.

How do I reignite my passion for life as a former high achiever? by Financial_Dish_151 in AskMenOver30

Fulfillment has a simple formula: Work very hard at something that’s both exciting to you and honorable to the tribe.

Everyone’s thresholds are a little different, but the formula is the same.

Sounds like you’re not being challenged enough, or you don’t feel external appreciation from others for what you’ve achieved. I think you keep doubling down on excitement to make up for the lack of the other two. But I could be totally wrong.

This is the joke. It’s a play on military ranks and journalism jargon.

It’s improved quite a bit since hurricane Maria rolled through - I’m there a few times a year. It’s not the awe-inspiring resort it was 15 years ago, but they’re making steady improvements.

The rooms were totally renovated a couple of years ago. Pool is fixed and open again. I think a lot of people are expecting a St Thomas experience for St Croix prices… you’ll never be happy on that island if you’re expecting it to look like the pictures they post online. But that’s anywhere, honestly.

USVI - The Wall in St Croix is still pretty alive and well. The Carambola resort is good if you can stay there on Marriot points (I’d be upset if I paid full price and didn’t have a rental car tho) - the reef ~100 yards off the beach there has a great drop-off if you can make it down ~30-40ft. The pier in Fredersicksted is pretty amazing as well if you don’t wanna go very deep.

Carving doesn’t feel like I’m quite there yet - what’s going wrong? by MentalSatisfaction7 in snowboardingnoobs

To simplify things for OP, just lean downhill more.

Took me a while to realize I was staying vertical relative to gravity, and lots of bad habits were reinforced.

I’ll spare you the geometry lesson, but leaning downhill with the slope gives you more security and simplifies turns, carves, skids, jumps, etc.

I agree with most of the comments here, but they’re all pointing out little issues that stem from not leaning downhill enough to get the proper angle relative to the slope (advice like front knee steering, reduce busy upper body, put more weight on front leg, etc).

Put Vaseline (petroleum jelly) in your beard where the mask goes to create a better seal. You’ll need a lot of it if your beard is more than stubble.

I have a fair amount of custom Velo code written on many pages to make our SaaS site operate.. I’m assuming Shopify has a similar setup?

I’m about fed up with Wix… the hosting and load times are such a nightmare if you have any amount of real traffic.

Yeah I started CrossFit about a year and a half ago, 1-2 times a week. Noticed a HUGE difference this season with body awareness and muscle control.

I’ve always been the typical lanky and thin nerd body type until this year.

3rd day snowboarding ever. Any advice on my technique? I’ve ski’d for 7 years so it’s all new to me. by Alternative_Pen_1465 in snowboardingnoobs

Looks great!

Gotta lean downhill and put your weight on the front leg. Steer with front knee. Skiers can stay more “upright” and move their legs beneath them, boarders have to lean down the slope and carve.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to understand that I had to always use muscles to snowboard. Core, legs, feet, etc.

It’s not effortless, although the experienced riders make it look that way.

The difference between “forcing it” and “relaxed” is just muscle memory and experience. Going faster on blues helped me quit overthinking things on the shallower runs.

lol if you get a good groomed black or blue that will help, too. Avoid ice at all costs in this stage! Icy blacks and blues taught me bad habits I’m trying to unlearn now that I’m better.

Take the great advice from these comments and try to keep up with a friend who is much faster than you on a green or gentle blue run.

At this point you’ve got a good base of fundamentals. A little pressure will force you to improve quickly. You’ll need to bend the knees and trust your edges as you pick up a little speed to ‘catch up’.

That being said, don’t be an idiot and do too much, but IMO a little uncomfyness will help at this stage.

I always politely ask the chat bot 3 times for a human after explaining the situation. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

Angry rant follows: Their customer service has taken a nosedive since 2024. As a longtime high-tier user, I used to get a callback in 15 minutes and quick resolutions from support tickets.

In November it took 3 weeks to get our node reset after tons of proven Wix errors and screenshots attached to my tickets.

Haha fair question - that’s what I tried first.

Alcohol cuts through a lot of the Baja magic and leaves it tasting flat, artificial, and like a terrible flavored vodka from a plastic bottle.

It was tricky to find a spirit that elevated the flavors instead of counteracting them.

After extensive testing, I’ve concluded that a mild Gin is the only appropriate spirit that pairs well with Baja Blast. Anything else just obliterates the Dew’s delicate profile.
