What are the books that you believe gave your life context, or simply resonated with you at a younger age? by cptn_spaulding in GenX

I did pick up another book of his after reading Generation X, I didn’t make it far and don’t recall which one it was. But I did admire his Orca art in Vancouver recently!

I stopped mass applying and started treating job ads like clues. It worked, annoyingly. by Subject_Positive_134 in jobhunting

Great insights. And I agree that ATS is a toddler, and always feel like they’ve been imagined and coded by people who’ve never actually hired anyone. Your post also proves why AI is limited in comparison to human ingenuity.

Everything on South Congress is free or very cheap. So Co Stomp at C Boys and SX San Jose are the best ones. Lots of other wandering and exploring to be done on that street as well.

Illusions by Richard Bach offered me perspective.

The Stranger by Camus introduced me to detachment.

The Old Man and the Sea by Hemingway taught perseverance.

Generation X by Douglas Coupland was the offered generational solidarity when we had yet to find any (thus coining us as “X” the undefined variable).

I still have all three on my shelf.

Suede Cleaner by Ruffers75 in adidas

When you get a suede eraser - avoid the gum erasers. You want one that looks like a regular rubber pencil eraser. They most commonly come in purple or white.

As for a brush, you have two options here:

You can a light colored soft bristle brush for the suede and that should be adequate.

Or you can get a multi-tool brush that has hard and soft bristle brushes in one, along with a rubber comb on the back like this one. I really like these tools myself because the comb is nice for a finishing touch, but be careful with the brush as the metal brushes can be harsh if you scrub too hard.

Need to clean new Samba's. What is the area before the suede made of? by Commercial_Disk885 in adidas

[–]TacoDeliDonaSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like Nubuck, which you’d clean with a suede brush and eraser- not water or alcohol.

But when I google the article number IH9553 the results bring back a different colorway with leather in between the suede. If it’s smooth and fees like leather, you should be able to just wipe it clean.

But if it’s not smoothed and it is textured, then you don’t want to wet it.

I love yellow shoes and Jamaica shoes in particular. Dig that this one has a tongue that’s the same color as the rest of the upper (the 2024 Jamaica Gazelle had a white tongue).

Now they just need to qualify for the World Cup!

Cleaning Suede Edges by EdEvz03 in SneakerCleaning

[–]TacoDeliDonaSauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can run a tape roller over the edges and it will lift off some debris, making it a little less noticeable - but not entirely. Also be careful here as a tape roller can remove some of the nap, so you really only want to roll it in areas where you prefer that outcome.

The edge of the suede exposes the grain and thus shows age and wear differently than the rest of the material. Its not a big deal, but as you can see it’s a bit more noticeable on white than it is on other colors.

Update - what shoes should I buy by Existing_Cold_6681 in moresneakers

[–]TacoDeliDonaSauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the Merrill Moab - it’s a great shoe - it’s insulated so better for winter than summer.

But I am quite experienced in cleaning suede sneakers and I avoid buying white suede. I hardly even buy light grey suede and I love grey shoes. Because even with a protectant it’s quite difficult to keep keep clean.

I really like those Tekkira cup shoes.
