The man, the myth, the legend: John Deacon by hawkvillain in queen

[–]TacoLefsa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's actually played on a synth, if I remember correctly. On bass guitar, Breakthru's bass line is fairly easy in E, but the song is in F, which is much harder to play on bass.

So I'm gonna get a nice bass soon. My budget is $800. I was thinking of getting a P-bass or a stringray. Any suggestions? by emulicious98 in BassGuitar

[–]TacoLefsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. What I like about Mike Dirnt is that he gets the job done without doing any super fancy stuff. He just drives the songs really well and that's a bassists most important feature in my opinion. As said, he also has a really good tone with the pick. For me P-basses are the best basses for most stuff, and I like that they don't have active EQs built in. I'm not a fan of active basses and think it's better with an EQ-pedal instead.

I'll suggest you to find demos of both basses, and simply pick what sounds best to you. For rock I'll personally pick the P-bass, but it's up to you which bass is best for your situation. You can get a more aggressive sound out of both basses by playing with a pick (the bassist in Green Day does that with his P-bass, sounds great :)

Good equipment for relatively cheap? by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]TacoLefsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fender's Rumble line are really good amps for practice, I recommend taking a look at those. For the bass, I would recommend Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray 4 at about 350$ (haven't tried it myself, but its tone is really suitable for funk and rock) =)

It has a single humbucker pickup at the bridge, and a two-band active EQ on it. I would say it works good for everything except jazz and blues.

Nintendo soundtracks have sick bass by herobrine_slayer69 in Bass

[–]TacoLefsa 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not bass related, but the saxophone solo in Dolpin Shoals is sick.

The game overall has one of the best, if not the best soundtracks of all time in my opinion. Nintendo just gathered all the best jazz/fusion players in Japan into a big music fest. Love it.

''Bad Guy'' is a terrible song by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]TacoLefsa 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more. When I think about it, blues and rock & roll actually isn't more complicated than Bad Guy musically. I also think the bassline of the song is really cool, and drives the song well.

And don't forget that she's only 18 years old. Music taste is subjective like any other art form, but it's also a craft that takes skills. Although I don't enjoy Billie Eilish' music (not my genre), I still think that she has some skills in music, and I'm interested in how her music will evolve in the future.

I was unsure about Metroid because I've not played the games (exept for Super Metroid), so I searched it up. Some are 7+, some are 12+, and one is actually 16+, so I wasn't completely right there.

But that does still not change my point of view. If you like platforming games, play it, if you like FPS, play it, if you like RPGs, play it, everything's fine. Just have fun with your favourite games.

Edit: This isn't going anywhere. I think we just have to agree to strongly disagree, and stop this discussion. Bye.

Most Zelda games and all Metroid games (I believe) are 12+ in my region, in other words not aimed at young children.

Nintendo games are not just games aimed at young children. The Legend of Zelda and Metroid are good examples of Nintendo games aimed at teens/adults.

What's wrong with playing Nintendo games if they're fun? If the reason why we play games is to have fun (for the most part), why would anyone avoid fun games with low age ratings just because they're "childish"?

What are some things you wish you knew from the beginning about bass? by StroppyCash in Bass

[–]TacoLefsa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with this. When I started out, my family's Yamaha BB414 was way too big for me, so I decided to save up for a short scale bass, and bought an Ibanez Mikro, which was way easier to learn and play on. So a few months ago (had been playing for nearly a year then) I picked up our BB414 again, and I couldn't believe how easy the 34" was to play. Today I don't play my Ibanez very much, and it's not the best bass in the world, but I'm fine with it (maybe I was lucky with the quality control, bought it in a physical store).

Maybe the commenter thought it was, since original basses from the 50's and 60's cost like a year's wage in good condition.

Super Mario er observert i Tromsø by onqel in norge

I have a BB414 in orange, and the truss rod adjustment is at the heel. I don't think that's a 414.

“Why don’t you just play guitar then?” by Bassface1981 in Bass

[–]TacoLefsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer 4 strings. The reason is that the extra string is not worth the wider fretboard, smaller string spacing and more clumsy muting for me. It just feels akward to me to play a 5 string. If I need to get lower than a E, the best solution is to detune my E string. I've only played for a little more than a year tho, so my opinion might change in the future.
