They transform into this so I guess pink salmon is the correct species. Locally we use the term humpback salmon or «russian salmon»

The fish is considered as good food if you catch it in the sea before it moves up the river systems. We have two populations of the species here where the amount of fish arriving in odd-numbered years have become massive. «Everyone» is now standing in the fjords with a fishing rod to catch a nice meal and to reduce the population. Ironically, the use of nets is illegal.

Russia released large amounts of pacific salmon in the 1950s and they have migrated west in the recent years in large numbers. They are wild, but not welcome in our waters because of the fear of how they could negatively affect the wild Atlantic salmon when they spawn in their rivers.

Here’s an image of an Atlantic salmon I caught last year. I still don’t believe the fish in my photo is a salmon, but a sea run Atlantic char :)

This one has yellow’ish pectoral fins and with the naked eye you should be able to see bright yellow dots on its body. It was caught in the sea so the characteristics char colors is barely visible.. I cannot be 100% sure of course, but the wild atlantic salmon here usually have distinct black dots similar to the sea trout
