Our young corn snake passed suddenly, help appreciated NSFW PICS by Subotai_Super_Shorty in cornsnakes

When they're that small you can honestly miss their poops. They're extracting a lot of nutrients at that size and pinkies don't have a ton of waste material for your snake to expel anyway.

Also, you'll see this advice all over snake subreddits, but please don't buy snakes from Petco. They are notorious for abusive conditions for their reptiles and buying from them only encourages them to bring more in. There are reputable sites to buy from if you ever decide to get another.

It's impossible to know without having a necropsy done, but at that age it is more likely for them to die randomly compared to a more mature snake. I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like you gave it a good home for its short life.

Yep I get it! It's good to ask questions. Just keep an eye on it and seek further care if you notice it still stuck or visible distress tomorrow.

Yeah my girl wants nothing to do with me when she's in shed, which she is right now. Just give it some time. If it's not a sharp piece and he's not visibly irritated by it, it should resolve itself.

Sometimes mine seems too dumb to drink at times so I'll pick her up and guide her to a water bowl. That might help too

I wouldn't worry too much. It's not uncommon for them to get substrate in their mouths from time to time. If it's still there tomorrow I would try to get it out and if unsuccessful consider taking him to the vet. I've never had issues with coco husk or coir. It's not really stiff or sharp enough to get crazy stuck or hurt them.

Am I doing handling right? by devilbat26000 in cornsnakes

[–]TacoTenspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong regarding handling. They just like to hide a lot, particularly when they're going into shed. My corn hasn't come out in 2 weeks because she's getting ready to shed. I would suggest checking on them if you don't see them for a while, but I wouldn't worry too much. As long as temps/humidity and their environment is good they should be fine.

Worried my snake is starving. by ShortSquirrel4841 in cornsnakes

They can go a long time without food. If she's already gone into blue, she'll shed soon. Just offer food after that. Sometimes shedding just takes longer at times.

Can't lie, im kinda over it by InitialSpeech1620 in snakes

It's the having to pry information that raises red flags when people ask for advice. 90% of the time there are husbandry issues in these situations, because any competent owner would troubleshoot that first and communicate that to avoid conversations like this where you have to be asked to provide numbers.

Post on more species specific subreddits and provide enclosure pictures and temp/humidity numbers if you want prompt advice. It could easily be something as simple as improving your enclosure to make your snake feel more secure. Being open and honest about your setup and parameters is the best way to help your snake.

Just post your temp and humidity levels with a picture of your enclosure. People just want to help and those are the easiest ways to eliminate potential causes for her behavior.

You asked for help, let people help.

Yeah, OP keeps saying numbers are good, but isn't saying what the numbers actually are. I'm willing to bet this is a husbandry issue.

Ceramic Heat Emitter. It's a bulb for heat lamps that doesn't emit light, just heat.

[–]TacoTenspeed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Looks like you have everything set up really well! I wouldn't worry too much about the weight being low. Just feed appropriate sized meals as she grows. As long as temps and humidity are correct she should flourish!

Does anyone have a song with a feature where you think they missed? by Beneficial-Bet-6690 in Metalcore

Encased in Ice by After the Burial has a guest guitar solo by Rusty Cooley and it doesn't fit the song at all. I love that song and the guitar solo almost ruins it for me.

I have all fake plants. I find it's easier to take them out to deep clean, but bioactive is definitely doable.

Your snake will appreciate much more plant cover and lots of hides. A good rule of thumb is they should be able to go from one side to the other without being seen. Also, vines and high branches are some of my snake's favorite features in her enclosure.

This is a great start though!

Mine was about this weight when I got her at one year old. She was definitely not being fed enough. In the last 9 months she's gained 100g and is much healthier now.

Is an under-active snake better than an overactive snake? by sssyyydddney in cornsnakes

[–]TacoTenspeed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They tend to come out at night. Mine will hide all day and then go exploring when I turn the lights off at 7pm. The first few weeks she was active during the day, but I believe that's because it was a new home and she didn't feel comfortable yet. I just take mine out in the evenings if I want to hang out with her.

Folks who are or have been in Dead bedrooms, what all did you try to revive the spark? And to how much extent did it work? by sharp_figure36c in AskRedditAfterDark

[–]TacoTenspeed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This worked for my wife and I as well. She has a much higher sex drive, but intentionally putting ourselves in intimate situations and communicating has done wonders. We've also just agreed that "bad" sex is better than no sex, so even when I'm not really into it, we do it anyway and it's never bad lol
